The bloody and brilliant Santa Clarita Diet doubles down on heavy mythology in Season 3 and matures in exciting ways.
This Santa Clarita Diet review contains no spoilers.
“Maybe my life does have a higher purpose that’s more than just killing people?”
Santa Clarita Diet Season 3 continues to prove that the show is one of those very special series that keeps on getting more interesting and rich as time goes on. The series evolves at the rate of highly concentrated prestige drama, but it’s a comedy about the undead, family values, and realty. Ever since the minute in the pilot where Drew Barrymore’s Sheila Hammond coats her husband Joel (and the better part of their kitchen) with her innards and viscera, it’s been clear that this show is something different.

Katie Cassidy tweeted a picture recently from the set of the new horror flick The Scribbler in character as Suki, and we have it right here next to an image of the original graphic novel character. Cassidy cut her hair and added piercings for the role. God love her!
This comes after The CW announced they would be picking up "Arrow" based on the DC comic book series Green Arrow, in which Cassidy stars as Dinah Lance, who later becomes Black Canary.
In other Scribbler news, Richard Riehle (Office Space), Brad Culver (Growth), Luke Barnett (Sedona) and an English bulldog named Sir Hollywood have all been seen on set playing supporting roles. This adds to an already impressive ensemble cast that includes Cassidy, Michelle Trachenberg ("Buffy"), Garret Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos"), Eliza Dushku ("Dollhouse"), Billy Campbell ("The Killing"), Kunal Nayyar ("Big...

Which identity is the real you? For Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku, this concept is all too familiar. Dushku joins fellow Buffy veteran Michelle Trachtenberg on the cast of the big screen adaptation of the comic book, The Scribbler, published by Image Comics and written by Daniel Schaffer.
Deadline reports that Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Taken) , picture center above, has signed on to topline in the film about “Suki, a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn,” an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The closer Suki comes to being “cured,” she’s haunted by a thought… what if the last unwanted identity turns out to be her?”
Check out the official press release on The Scribbler:

Filming on Dan Schaffer’s graphic novel The Scribbler begins later this week in Los Angeles for a live action theatrical film release.
Schaffer’s graphic novel was originally published in 2006 by Image Comics. A new “director’s cut” of the graphic novel is being prepared by the recently re-launched First Comics™ for release in conjunction with the film’s opening. Schaffer penned the screenplay adapted from his graphic novel.
The thriller centers on Suki, a young woman confined in a mental institution and being treated with an experimental machine dubbed “The Siamese Burn, designed to eliminate multiple personalities. As the “treatment” progresses, Suki starts to be haunted by the realization that if “The Siamese Burn” is successful, which one of her personalities will be the survivor?

An all star horror cast including Danielle Harris (Hatchet II), Brain Krause (Charmed), Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead) and Tiffany Shepis (Night of the Demons) star in the disturbing serial killer themed horror film Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer. Just today, Anchor Bay Entertainment announced that the street date of the film had been postponed. Reasons as to the delay are unclear at this time. However, don't worry! Written and directed by Mark Vadik, Cyrus stars Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 & 5, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1 & 2, Hatchet 2) as Maria, host of a lurid tabloid show called “Last Steps.” With her cameraman Tom in tow, Maria investigates a series of unexplained disappearances in a small Midwestern county. We’ve seen a few different musicians take their turn as directors in the horror genre including Rob Zombie and Dee Snider. Well, it’s time to make room for a relative newcomer to our beloved genre - Gabriel Cowan. Cowan, who enjoyed a successful career as a musician, is now making his mark in the industry with his recently released body horror flick, Growth.
In its third week of release, Growth is ranked #2 on the iTunes horror genre chart amidst solid films like The Crazies, Daybreakers and Let the Right One In.
Even though Cowan touts himself an indie kind of guy, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t enjoyed a slew of success in the entertainment industry before becoming a filmmaker. In high school his band Comfort Station was featured on MTV as one of Los Angeles' fastest up-and-coming bands, and at the age of 18 Cowan was hired...

"Being Michael Madsen" (2010)
Directed by Michael Mongillo
Released by Midnight Releasing
While not as distinguished or meta as "Being John Malkovich," expect this mockumentary about the "Reservoir Dogs" star to be equally surreal as Madsen recruits sister Virginia and "Kill Bill" co-stars Daryl Hannah and the late David Carradine to co-star in this film that sees him accused of murder. Rather than sit idly by, Madsen turns the table on the paparazzi photographer fueling the allegations by hiring a trio of filmmakers to follow his every move.
"Beneath Clouds" (2002)
Directed by Ivan Sen
Released by Cinema Epoch
This Australian drama stars Dannielle Hall and the late Damian Pitt as Lena and Vaughn, a pair of strangers thrown together by circumstance to travel across the country to Sydney where Lena hopes to learn more about her long-absent father and Vaughn hope to leave behind his criminal past and see his ailing mother.

What young actress would turn down the chance to star in a horror movie that's best described as Pretty in Pink (1986) meets Carrie (1976) meets Prom Night (1980) meets Cabin Fever (2002)? Certainly not Alexi Wasser. Wasser is a tall, lean 28-year-old with big, bright and expressive blue eyes, and she puts that whole package to use in Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, the long-delayed, unrated direct-to-dvd semi-sequel to Eli Roth's cult fave flick, Cabin Fever. The new film, directed (mostly) by Ti West, is an insanely gory and grotesque affair that kicks off with a survivor from the first film, Paul (Rider Strong), dragging his virus-ridden self from a polluted lake and...promptly getting eviscerated by a school bus. Meanwhile, tainted water from that same lake is about to ruin a high school prom nearby and will eventually strike the ladies and gents at a local strip club. The result: gallons...

We've reported on Gabriel Cowan's gooey, Slither inspired new horror film, Growth, before, but now that the director himself has just passed along the film's first official trailer we thought we'd share it with you guys. Gabe also told us a bit about what he and his team put into the film to make sure it was an amazing visual experience. Shot on the Red One, it has over a hundred VFX shots, aerial shots, and underwater sequences. They even did some crazy stuff like shooting a sequence in Korea remotely from Los Angeles. According to Gabe, "we had a high definition feed to our computer, and our laptop had Skype and Google video working for us to communicate with the crew, director of photography and the actors.

Don't worry! Luckily it's nothing we are going to have to lance ourselves! Instead we speak of Lionsgate UK's sci-fi thriller that is looking to send more than a few gross-out induced shivers up and down your spine.
Director Gabriel Cowan dropped us a note today to let us know that the official trailer for his latest film Growth is up online - as are the first few minutes of the film.
According to Cowan this experience was pretty unique. "We shot on the Red One and have over a hundred VFX shots," Gabe tells DC. "Perhaps even more exciting, we shot an entire scene in Korea remotely from Los Angeles. We had a high definition feed to our computer, and our laptop had Skype and Google video working for us to communicate with the crew, director of photography and the actors. So how did it all turn out?...

Because we can never get enough Giger-inspired artwork: this is the new one-sheet for Gabriel Cowan’s sci-fi thriller “Growth”.
Well, the poster looks tasty. Gabriel is a musician-turned-director who was responsible for last year’s thriller “Breathing Room”, and here he is directing his own script. Mircea Monroe (who will also be in the upcoming “Tekken” movie) stars.
The release date is unknown (or at least undisclosed) as of yet.
You can find a synopsis and a far, Far larger version of the poster after the break!

Afm is always my favorite time of the film reporting year. There's always so much information about cool genre movies flying at you from every direction that it's literally a full time job just keeping up with what's going on. It's for that reason that we here at Qe decided to hold off on a lot of our favorite news and make one big giant mega post with all the stuff that had us talking behind the scenes.
To avoid cluttering up the homepage I've decided to bury all the images and information after the break so click through and feast on the many goodies beyond.
