- TriviaThe real Ben Carson can be seen briefly as an extra walking down the hallway reading a chart and wearing the same blue scrubs as Cuba Gooding Jr..
- GoofsDuring the separation surgery, an anesthetic ventilator can be heard running at about 28 breaths per minute. Trouble is, it carries on after the babies are put on bypass, and even when circulatory arrest has been induced, which is wrong. Then, Dr Carson asks his anesthetic team how things are are going, and he is told they are pretty stable - odd question during circulatory arrest. Later on, he is told the pressure is dropping - they have forgotten about the circulatory arrest again. Then there is the fake drama about Carson finishing his part of the surgery four seconds before the hour is up: truth is, nobody knows how long you can keep any baby in cold circulatory arrest before they get brain damage so you keep the arrest time to the minimum but there is nothing magical about one hour. Finally, they defibrillate a heart that is not fibrillating, and then they do it again - clearly the same heart both times.
- Quotes
Sonya Carson: I didn't say they weren't expensive clothes. I said they're cheap. Most folks that wear cheap clothes on the outside are dead on the inside. The folks I work for, they buy clothes that last. That's what I try to get you.
Featured review
I grew up hearing about some of Ben Carson's amazing surgeries and remember reading about him when I was a teenager, probably, so I was excited when I heard about this movie. I just watched it for the first time, and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. I can't believe it was a made-for-TV movie! This movie tells the story of how Ben Carson went from being a kid who was a failure in school and had a very low self-esteem to a famous, gifted surgeon. It tells some about his family life and about two of his famous surgeries. This movie kept me glued to it all the way through--it was like a good book you can't put down!
