Lionsgate’s franchise reboot The Strangers: Chapter 1 kicked off a new trilogy of tales, and the company has finally released the official teaser trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2.

At this time, Chapter 2 is “coming soon,” with no official release date.

2024 isn't even over yet, and we've already been hearing about a lot of new horror content set to be released in 2025. For example, Paramount Pictures will release its new horror film Vicious early next year, and you won't believe who's in the cast.

We first learned of this horror flick back in February 2024. At the time, it was reported that Paramount Pictures had boarded a new horror film titled Vicious and that Emmy nominee Dakota Fanning would be leading the cast. Bryan Bertino was also announced to be helming the film. Atlas Entertainment and Richard Suckle were signed on to produce with Melinda Whitaker as executive producer. The movie was also given a Aug. 8, 2025 theatrical release.

However, so much new information has come out about this film since then. For one, it will no longer be released in theaters in August 2025. Instead, its theatrical release has been pushed up to Feb.

Back in July, it was announced that Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur (Coda) had signed on to star in the horror film Primate. Since then, Johnny Sequoyah (pictured above) of Dexter: New Blood has signed on to star in the film with Kostur – and now, as the project draws closer to production, Deadline has revealed that ten more actors have joined the cast. Here’s the line-up: Jessica Alexander (Amadeus), Victoria Wyant (My Fault: London), Benjamin Cheng (d’Illusion: The Houdini Musical), Gia Hunter (Sherlock and Daughter), Miguel Torres Umba (National Theatre co-production Kin), Kae Alexander (Ready Player One), Tienne Simon (Grime Kids), Charlie Mann (Lazarus), newcomer Amina Abdi, and Albert Magashi (National Theatre Live: Dear England).

“Salem’s Lot” is once again getting the adaptation treatment, this time as a film from “Annabelle Comes Home” director and “It” screenwriter Gary Dauberman.

The latest crack at Stephen King’s acclaimed vampire novel managed to pull together a cast of recognizable faces despite being pulled from a theatrical release to go directly to Max. “Salem’s Lot” follows a writer’s return to his hometown, searching for inspiration for his next book, only to find out the place is slowly being overrun by vampires.

Ready for Halloween? So is Max. The streamer just debuted their month-long Halloween and horror movie celebration, dubbed “No Sleep October,” and we’ve got the full list for your perusal.

At the start of last year, former DC Films boss Walter Hamada signed a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures, the idea being that he would become, as Deadline put it, “the architect of Paramount’s mainstream horror genre pod, with the mission to release several low- to mid-budget films per year across theatrical and streaming.” Now Deadline has an update on Hamada’s horror-minded efforts at Paramount, as they’re reporting that the studio has given the greenlight to the Hamada-produced horror film Primate, which has Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur attached to star.

Kotsur won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film Coda, becoming the first deaf male actor and only the second deaf actor overall to win an Oscar. Walter Hamada is producing Primate, part of a new horror pact with Paramount.

Hamada, who recently left WB/DC, has a ton of horror cred from his time at New Line, producing countless horror movies including the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street remakes as well as The Conjuring and its various spinoffs and the 2017 adaptation of It.

Via his production company 18hz Productions, Walter Hamada is slated to produce several mid-budget horror films for Paramount Pictures per year, for both theaters and streaming.

Back in 2022, it was announced that Shawnee Smith of the Saw franchise (not to mention two of my favorites, Summer School and The Blob ’88) had signed on to star in a horror movie called The Skulleton. That film has since been retitled Bloodline Killer – and today, June 28th, it has been released through the Tubi streaming service as a Tubi Original! While you wait for Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 this coming October from Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, the team’s next horror movie Stream is headed to theaters in August.

Iconic Events Releasing will bring Stream to theaters nationwide on August 21, 2024, and we’ve learned today that Days of the Dead Indianapolis will be hosting a sneak peek event on July 6. Fans in attendance will be treated to the very first look at the Stream theatrical trailer, with director Michael Leavy in attendance alongside producer Phil Falcone (Terrifier 2), Marcus Slabine, Danielle Harris, Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan.

In Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1, Venus, Oregon, is turned into a fatal trap for an unsuspecting couple thanks to the three masked killers who first went on a bloody rampage in 2008’s The Strangers. And while the seemingly same murderous trio was responsible for the massacre in 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night, Harlin’s film is a more direct homage to the original, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. But unlike Bryan Bertino’s film, there’s an opaque, near-tangible design to the danger that Maya and Ryan drive into in The Strangers: Chapter 1.

A couple of years ago, I started a recurring column called The Silver Lining, where I’d write about horror films that were generally considered to be bad but also had good elements that warranted revisiting. MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), is swiftly approaching its July 5th theatrical release date – but before we get there, A24 will be bringing franchise starter X back to theatres for one night only, on June 18th. Nothing sparks fear in the opening moments of a horror film like the words “based on actual events.” Many horror fans find comfort in reminding ourselves that “it’s just a movie,” but this ominous disclaimer smashes the illusion. Bryan Bertino’s landmark home invasion film, The Strangers, begins with a similar assertion, setting the stage for a night of pure terror. Ominous text delivers upsetting statistics of random crime before introducing us to the film’s victims.

Renny Harlin’s 2024 prequel The Strangers: Chapter One begins with a similar warning, but ups the ante by calculating the number of violent crimes that have occurred since the opening frame. It’s the perfect way to introduce stories designed to upend our collective understanding of personal safety.

The bar wasn’t very high to clear, but Lionsgate’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 did manage to break a box office record here in 2024, achieving the highest opening weekend at the domestic box office out of any horror movie released this year… so far. This despite largely negative reviews, once again proving that the horror genre is as review-proof as it comes.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 debuted with $11.83M at the domestic box office in 2,856 locations, just barely topping Blumhouse’s Night Swim to rip the crown off the top of its head.

Sunday Am, 5:36 Am: Saturdays were good to If lifting the pic to a now $34M opening after a $13.6M Saturday, up 32% against $10.3M Friday and previews. That means that A CinemaScore word of mouth is working. I’m hearing tracking was over its skis predicting it at $40M, and presales all along indicated it was in the $30M range. The John Krasinski directed/written/produced movie drew 50% general and 50% family, and the reason why If is a little lighter is because those 50% Rotten Tomatoes scores kept the main audience away. Pic will easily keep families coming to theaters even with Garfield next weekend. Two family movies can share the marketplace.

Bryan Bertino’s 2008 film The Strangers is remembered as one of the most terrifying horror films of all time. Unlike Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Saw or Psycho, barely a drop of blood is spilled until the final act, yet the impact of the film was seminal at the time.

The film spawned a critically panned sequel, The Strangers: Prey At Night, which took the action from a single location to a holiday park, with disastrous consequences. Now, attempting the seeming impossible, Finnish director Renny Harlin takes control of the franchise and brings us not just one, but three films set in the same universe.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 works as a kind of a remake of Bertino’s original.

Out this week is The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first installment of a new reboot trilogy from director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Master, Deep Blue Sea). While Harlin previously detailed fresh plans for the overarching trilogy, Chapter 1 first aims to recreate the visceral terror of Bryan Bertino’s original film.

It also lays the groundwork for what’s ahead, introducing the peculiar small town of Venus, Oregon.

The big movie this weekend is the latest from director John Krasinski, once again teaming with Paramount Pictures for his family film “If,” starring Ryan Reynolds. “If” stands for “Imaginary Friends” – not to be confused with the recent horror movie “Imaginary” – although this is a family-friendly version of the same general concept, about a little girl named Bea (played by Cailey Fleming) who begins working with Reynold’s character to help pair IFs who have been abandoned by their childhood friends with new kids.

Following his run on “The Office” and directing a couple of indies, Krasinski directed “A Quiet Place” for Paramount in 2018, which opened with $50.2 million and went onto gross $188 million domestic and $334 million globally, based on a $17 million budget.

We’re now just days away from the theatrical release of The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film in a brand new reboot trilogy from director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Master, Deep Blue Sea). It’s coming to theaters May 17, 2024.

Fresh new label Dreamscape Productions has wrapped principal photography on their creature feature Round the Decay, and they’ve provided Bloody Disgusting with some first look stills of the film’s cast and a peek at the flick’s monster, the Wrexsoul.

Writer and director Adam Newman teases the original practical creation at the center of the film (played by Rachel Pizzolato), “The Wrexsoul is inspired by many creatures of film’s past, but the sum equals something fresh and unique. We can’t spoil too much but we have an extensive lore that you’re going to have to check out once Round the Decay is released.”

We always love a good viral marketing campaign, and with Lionsgate gearing up to release The Strangers: Chapter 1 in theaters on May 17, they’re pulling out all the stops this month.

The three masked slashers from the franchise – known as Pinup Girl, Dollface and the Man in the Mask – have been showing up on home security cameras across the country!

Videos and images posted to Tiktok, Twitter, and even Next Door have been documenting the sightings, one of which is a creepy doorbell cam video of a roommate who was allegedly followed home by the masked trio earlier this month. Another video sees them lurking around outside of a gas station, eventually stopping to look directly into the security camera.

The Strangers were also spotted standing outside the Manhattan Criminal Court House, making for “a strange, slightly unsettling scene,” as one Twitter user perfectly described it.
