I have to say, i am also a big fan of Balaević's music. And i've seen a fair share of films... And I loved this one. Let me tell you why...
It is not predictable! Even if you know every word of his lyrics, you don't know, what will happen next or even more importantly, how will the film end. The film flows slowly, but you're not bored for a single second. In this feature it is a lot like Czech films - for instance "I served the English king", "My Sweet Little Village" or "Closely Watched Trains" - all great film! Not many things happen, but the charm is in the dialogs. And in the music! I hate movies where the music is forced, just so there isn't a lot of silence. But here you just want them to keep on playing. I don't know that much Serbian to only listen to what they said, so i had to read the subtitles, which takes away some of the charm... The only mistake i did notice was the sign for an insurance company, which definitely did not exist in the time of the first world war...
I didn't have big expectations for this film and i thought it was great. Maybe that's the catch... And i was really happy i couldn't find it anywhere to download it in some telesinc quality and watched it at home. Big screen is the way to go. I would really like to see it again, which i hadn't say for a lot of film i saw, i'll tell you that.
