The news broke this morning that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has signed an exclusive deal with Amazon for his Skybound Entertainment Properties. This is obviously huge news in the landscape of TV and streaming entertainment, as Kirkman is the man responsible for creating the entertainment juggernaut that is The Walking Dead. While The Walking Dead was a pretty big hit as a comic, it took some convincing for the show to eventually be created. You may be surprised to know it took over five years for the show to find a home. Of course, it ended up on AMC, and the rest is history. That history with AMC hasn’t always been smooth though and it may be why Kirkman has signed this latest deal. What does it mean for the properties currently appearing in the pages of the comics under the Skybound banner?
It appears that the...

Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead has called AMC since the series first launched. He's ready to move on, though. It was recently announced that that Kirkman's production company Skybound is leaving AMC and going to Amazon. He just signed a. two-year deal with them.
All of Skybound's future content will be exclusively made for Amazon. AMC has enjoyed the success that Kirkman has brought them over the years, but it sounds like Amazon ended up offering him a better deal.
Kirkman made the following statement to THR:
“At Skybound Entertainment we strive to tell the best stories in the most unique and creative ways in an effort to always break new ground. A forward thinking company like Amazon is the perfect home for us. Their new foray into genre fiction has us at peak optimism for what can be accomplished during this unprecedented partnership. Anyone who has attended or watched a panel with Robert Kirkman knows that he's always great with a crowd. That's why, in more recent years, he's held a panel at Comic-Con where it's just him up on stage answering audience questions. Thanks to Skybound, we have the entire Comic-Con 2017 panel for you to watch right now!
Robert Kirkman's usual sense of humor is on full display here, so don't expect him to give away any secrets from The Walking Dead (even though that didn't stop fans from asking). That said, he talks about working toward the end of the comic book series, the eventual death of Rick Grimes, the recent major character death, and much more. Outside of The Walking Dead, Kirkman comments on George A. Romero's passing, the Invincible movie, and what's next for Outcast.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are to adapt Robert Kirkman’s Invincible series for the big screen. Could this be the shakeup the comic-book adaptation needs?
Marvel and DC have often been a little prickly when it comes to others infringing on terrain they consider their own. A New York Daily News report estimated in 2013 that the two publishers had sued at least 35 people over the previous decade, just for using the term “superhero”. What’s perhaps more surprising is that, despite the current boom in comic-book movies, the big two haven’t really needed to call in the lawyers to ensure their virtual duopoly at the multiplex. Of the top 20 highest-grossing superhero movies of all time, all but one are based on a property that originally appeared in comics published by either Marvel or DC. And the exception – 2004 Pixar animation The Incredibles – is in any case now owned by Marvel parent company Disney.

Robert Kirkman may be best known for The Walking Dead, but there's Invincible too. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are making a movie of it...
If you only associate Robert Kirkman's name with the zombie horror of The Walking Dead, you're missing out on a key piece of his career which has run for nearly as long. Kirkman is the co-creator (along with Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker) of Invincible, one of the longest running and most successful independent superhero comics in recent memory. Considering the runaway success of The Walking Dead on TV, you'd think we'd have seen Invincible make the jump to live action by now.
Well, it's finally time.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will write, direct, and produce an Invincible movie for Universal. Rogen and Goldberg are no stranger to adapting long running, beloved comics, as they're behind AMC's Preacher TV series,...

Even if you don’t read comic books, chances are you’ll be familiar with Robert Kirkman’s name. The Image Comics scribe is the creator of The Walking Dead, a series which has become a global phenomenon since being brought to television by AMC. However, what you may not know is that Kirkman has another long-running comic called Invincible, which is also well past the #100 issue mark.
It tells the story of Mark Grayson, a half human/half alien teenager who develops superpowers and becomes “invincible” in a world full of larger than life characters. His adventures have taken place on Earth and in the far reaches of space, and while it’s clearly inspired by Spider-Man and mainstream superhero universes such as those created by Marvel and DC Comics, Invincible also features some seriously graphic violence amidst epic action scenes. For that reason, it’s always been hard...

Invincible is a great comic. It is not a huge DC or Marvel powerhouse but it's a cult classic with real heart. It tells the tale of a teenager who's father is the most powerful superhero in the world and how he eventually also comes across realizing his power. What's fun about this comic, is that while still having fun and being funny, it also shows a slightly more realistic view of superhero life. Not in an overly dramatic way, but rather in a sarcastic satirical way.
So to hear that it is becoming a film is very exciting for me, and to hear that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be writing, directing, and producing the film is... well... it's good! I think if anyone were to make this movie, it would need to be people who understand comedy and conventions of satire. Let's try to forget about the Green Hornet film,...

Proving that the movie industry is nothing if not forgiving (when it comes to famous white men), The Hollywood Reporter says that Universal is going to let Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg write and direct an adaptation of the long-running superhero comic Invincible. This is despite the fact that Rogen and Goldberg’s last foray into the world of superheroes was writing the 2011 Green Hornet movie, which barely anybody liked and barely made any money. That’s all in the past, though, and Rogen and Goldberg have made Preacher since then, so all is apparently forgiven.

Although The Walking Dead #163 doesn't hit shelves until February 1st, the special 25-cent issue (in honor of Image Comics' 25th anniversary) is already making a big splash by becoming the most ordered comic book in almost 20 years, with over 730,000 copies (and counting) pre-ordered so far.
Press Release: Image Comics partner and pop culture phenomenon Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard’s The Walking Dead #163 is the Direct Market’s highest ordered comic in nearly 20 years.
As final orders rolled in this week from Diamond Comic Distributors, The Walking Dead #163 pre-orders exceeded 730,000 copies—without the aid of subscription box numbers to bolster the overall total—making the goal of expanding readership through a promotional 25¢ price point an overwhelming success.

Image Comics has revealed today that next month’s The Walking Dead #163 has received pre-orders from Diamond Comic Distributors’ partner comic book stores in excess of 730,000. Excluding Loot Crate style subscription box services, the publisher boasts that this marks “the Direct Market’s highest ordered comic in nearly 20 years.”
Comic book companies like Marvel and DC rarely reveal full sales figures, so it’s hard to know how this instalment of The Walking Dead compares with other bestselling titles, but it’s obviously unlikely that Image would make false claims. Of course, it helps that the issue is going to retail for only 25¢ instead of the usual $2.99.
Here’s what writer Robert Kirkman had to say about this special issue of the long-running series:
“The Direct Market helped make The Walking Dead, Invincible, and Outcast the successful series they are today, and acknowledging that support is a big part of...

Comic Books 101: Comic Books To Keep An Eye Out For In 2017
In 2016 Both Marvel and DC had their own version of companywide “reboots” to help improve sales and streamline their stories. For Marvel, the events of Secret Wars II opened up an “All New-All Different” Marvel Universe which saw the collapse of the multiverse (similar to DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths) and “new” faces taking over for many beloved iconic characters. DC likewise followed up their New 52 line up with Rebirth! A way to slightly rework some of the areas that were lacking in their New 52 line up and get characters “back to basics”. Now with both companies seemingly back on track, what does 2017 have in store for them? Also what the heck is going on over with all those other indie comic book companies? Read on to see some of the big happenings coming in 2017!

From The Walking Dead to Game Of Thrones, The X-Files and more, here are a few homage-paying TV show costumes with nerdy details...
When most of us get dressed in the morning, it's a question of what's clean, to-hand, and won't blatantly reveal the fact that the cat has spent the weekend lounging on it like a Playboy centrefold. They're just clothes. Things to cover your bits and prevent you from sticking to the bus seat.
Not so for TV characters, whose outfits aren't just for insulation, but help to tell the story. Costume designers and showrunners often deck their characters out in key bits of kit chosen specifically to nod to the past or future, or to pay homage to an inspiration. That's what's happened in these eleven examples...

For years, Rick and Carl have kept each other alive in the zombie apocalypse, but what would happen if you were in charge of their well-being? That question will soon be answered, as Mantic Games is teaming up with Skybound Entertainment to release The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game later this year.
Set in Atlanta, The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game includes detailed plastic depictions of Rick, Carl, and other characters (both living and zombified) from Robert Kirkman's popular comic book series (at this point, it doesn't look like the game will feature the settings and entire cast of characters from the comic's All Out War storyline).
The two-player game is expected to hit shelves late this year. Expansions to the main game are also being planned and will feature familiar faces like Michonne, Glenn, Shane, and more. For more information, we have...

It all started innocently enough with a drunken question meant to jumpstart another dull Saturday night out on the town. What it became however, was an hour long debate on par with other eternal struggles like Lakers vs. Celtics, Capitalism vs. Communism, and Godzilla vs. King Kong. The question posed was innocent enough: Who is the greatest sci-fi/fantasy hero of all time? Names like Superman, Harry Potter, Robert Patrick, and the Original Green Power Ranger were tossed around, but in reality, the real answer to this question isn’t that hard to come by…it’s Luke Skywalker. Bar none, Luke Skywalker is the greatest sci-fi/fantasy hero of all time. In terms of adversity, skill, importance, and the weight of his failure, no other character comes close to matching the last Jedi.

Since announcing its arrival in July 2015, Insurrection Media has been on the lookout for creative partners who can make enticing, TV-quality programming for distribution on digital and over-the-top platforms. As part of its search, the studio founded by former Fox exec Kiliaen Van Rensselaer has joined forces with the company behind one of TV’s biggest hits. According to a press release, the deal between Skybound and Insurrection will cover “world-class genre series,” which the former company will develop and the latter will distribute. The deal also covers “the expansion of the intellectual property from the original series,” with licensed video games seen as a particular point of interest. A video game based on The Walking Dead became a surprise hit in 2012, garnering several Game of the Year honors along the way.

Robert Kirkman's Skybound has entered into a two-year first-look deal with Universal Pictures.
The Walking Dead co-creator's Image Comics imprint will give the company first refusal on any film adaptations of its titles.
"In high school I watched Army of Darkness pretty much every night before bed so I've seen that Universal logo steering around the planet we call home about a thousand times," Kirkman told The Hollywood Reporter.
"The idea of producing movies that will bear that logo is just unbelievably awesome. We couldn't find better partners than the team at Universal. I believe this partnership is going to help David [Alpert, Kirkman's long-time business partner] and I achieve all the goals we set out to accomplish when we founded Skybound five years ago."
However, rumours that a Walking Dead film could be part of the new deal have been played down.
Skybound's other titles include Kirkman's superhero series Invincible and new supernatural horror comic Outcast.
