Children of the Corn (2020) marks the twelfth adaptation into the screen for this Stephen King short story after Children of the Corn (1984), Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992), Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995), Children of the Corn: The Gathering (1996), Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998), Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return (1999), Children of the Corn: Revelation (2001), Children of the Corn (2009), Children of the Corn: Genesis (2011), Children of the Corn: Runaway (2018), and a short film Disciples of the Crow (1983) in the horror video anthology The Night of the Scarecrow.

First movie for Kurt Wimmer since Ultraviolet (2006). Wimmer had retired from direction due to "creative differences" with the studio executives of the movie.

The black and white program on the television early on in the film is The Twilight Zone season 3 episode "It's a Good Life," where a young boy with incredible abilities holds a small town hostage and sends anyone and anything that displeases him "to the cornfield."
