"Action News 5" brings the funny like "Anchorman" with Will Ferrel. Both set in silly world of a News Station, this film delivers on jokes for the teen set. It has off-color humor that teens love, raunchy in a good-way, and a kind of buddy pic. News is such a ripe target for satire. 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' has millions of viewers each night because fake news stories have such a broad appeal.
This film centers around 5 stoner-misfits who somehow land a job as the field reporters for a major news affiliate. Snuffy is the main on-camera talent and is definitely the John Belushi type. When he interviews people they don't even know he's making fun of them. The rest of the gang is in competition with the main anchor and weatherman. Wait till you see the funniest weather report on Earth.
The story is well-plotted with themes of knowing who you true friends are, how to get the girl that is always out of reach, and how to find joy in your job whatever it is.
Sure the humor is like "Super Bad." It's dirty but honest, which is what made the former a big hit.
The film reminds me of sneaking into the theaters to see Porky's. (I was too young). That same kind of thrill was there in this movie. That's a movie you can watch a dozen times. Just like this film, you never know what these guys are going to do or say next.
My only complaint... the girls are too hot. Seriously, give a guy's heart a chance! There are some surprising strong performances. Keep an eye on these guys! 3 1/2 Stars
