A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.

First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.

We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

The police department said that its investigation was opened after a woman contacted them two weeks ago, sharing “new information” related to reports of “harassment and stalking.”

According to BBC News, the woman had reported allegations to the Thames Valley Police multiple times from 2018 to 2022, though no further action had been taken.

Brand accused the same woman of harassment against him in 2017.

While the police department confirmed the new investigation, they did not share further information, saying that “it would be inappropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation.”

Last month, four women alleged that the actor and comedian sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013, according to an investigation by Britain’s Channel 4, The Times and The Sunday Times. Those allegations are being investigated by London Metro Police.

The fifth woman reported her allegations to Thames Valley Police between 2018 and 2022, alleging “sexual offenses” in 2017, but no action was taken at the time, the BBC reported. The department confirmed it was investigating Brand, but declined to provide additional details.

Brand has denied any wrongdoing and says the encounters with each of his accusers were consensual. Messages sent seeking comment were not immediately returned Monday.

Paramount+ has removed a stand-up comedy special starring Russell Brand in the wake of sexual assault allegations against the comic.

The 2009 special Russell Brand in New York City was taken off the streamer Tuesday. The removal follows the BBC’s decision to take TV and radio programming featuring Brand off its streaming platforms, with the broadcaster saying it “now falls below public expectations.”

YouTube has also suspended monetization on Brand’s channel (though not the channel itself), saying in a statement, “If a creator’s off-platform behavior harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action.” The company said Brand had violated YouTube’s “Creator Responsibility policy.”

The multi-hyphenate writer/director/producer behind short-lived cult classic NBC series “Freaks and Geeks” was determined not to let the rising stars of the series fall to the wayside after the show’s untimely cancellation, according to actor Jason Segel.

“Freaks and Geeks” revolved around siblings Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) and Sam (John Francis Daley), who try to make friends in their new Detroit high school in 1980. Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Busy Philipps, Martin Starr, and Samm Levine rounded out the ensemble cast for the teen series that ran from 1999 to 2000. Apatow executive-produced the series, created by Paul Feig.

According to Thea Glassman’s new book “Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson’s Creek: How Seven Teen Shows Transformed Television,” Apatow did not want the series’ cancellation to deter the career paths of the cast.

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.

The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”

The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”

The new comedy series, which just released a hilarious official trailer, finds Rogen and Byrne attempting to prove it’s totally possible for a man and a woman to be just friends. That’s sort of obvious, right, since the show’s title is Platonic.

The series also stars LLuke Macfarlane (Bros), Tre Hale (Sh*thouse), Carla Gallo (Bones), and Andrew Lopez (Blockers).

Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco (Friends from College) created Platonic and serve as writers, directors, and executive producers. Rogen, Byrne, and Conor Welch also executive produce.

The 10-episode half-hour comedy premieres with the release of the first three episodes on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

Exclusive: Oscar winning co-director/co-scribe/producer of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Rodney Rothman, and former MGM exec Adam Rosenberg, have inked a first look deal with Sony Pictures to develop, produce, write, and direct feature films through their company, Modern Magic.

Under their deal with the studio, Rothman and Rosenberg are developing a feature film based on an original idea by Emmy Award winner Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), with Emmy Award nominee Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia) attached to direct.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne played a married couple who battled a frat in Neighbors and then a sorority in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. And now they’re reuniting for the Apple TV+ comedy Platonic.

Apple TV+ just released the first photos from the series and confirmed Platonic will premiere on May 24, 2023 with the debut of the first three episodes. New episodes of the 10-episode series will arrive on subsequent Wednesdays.

Byrne and Rogen are executive producing the comedy created by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco (Friends from College). Stoller and Delbanco write and executive produce, with Conor Welch also executive producing.
