Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine dedicated the band’s Super Bowl halftime performance to “Jordy,” his late manager Jordan Feldstein. Feldstein, the older brother of actor Jonah Hill, died in December 2017 at the age of 40 of a blood clot in his leg, among other contributing factors. Among his many successes as the band’s and Levine’s representative, Feldstein negotiated Levine’s coach role on NBC’s “The Voice.”
With the 14-minute long performance, months of will-they-or-won’t-they speculation was put to rest once performers Maroon 5, along with guests Travis Scott and Big Boi took the field. The band’s participation in the show had come under fire in recent weeks because performing during the game — which is the biggest global stage for a musician, with an estimated 100 million viewers — is effectively an endorsement of the National Football League’s treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. "Everest," directed by Baltasar Kormákur, has been selected as the opening film, out of Competition, of the 72nd Venice Film Festival (September 2-12 2015). The festival is directed by Alberto Barbera, organized by the Biennale, and chaired by Paolo Baratta.
The world premiere of "Everest" will be screened on September 2nd in the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema) at the Lido. Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain,"Everest" documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.
"Everest" is a Working Title Films production starring Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley,Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal, produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Baltasar Kormákur, Nicky Kentish Barnes, Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson. The story was adapted for the screen by William Nicholson ("Gladiator") and Oscar® winner Simon Beaufoy ("Slumdog Millionaire").
The film was shot on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, the Italian Alps and at Cinecittà Studios in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the U.K.Universal will distribute Everest worldwide, and it will be released in the U.S. exclusively on IMAX 3D and premium-large format 3D screens on September 18th. It will be released wide in the U.S.—including standard 2D and 3D—on September 25th. Italy releases the film on September 24th.
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, Baltasar Kormákur is an actor, producer and director whose truly global work spans theater, movies and television. After "Everest," he will produce and direct "Vikingr," a big-budget action adventure set in the world of the famed Norse warriors that is inspired by the Iceland’s epic Sagas. He is also set to direct the eco-disaster film "Cascade" and write and direct a crime thriller based on the events that inspired the Filipino film "On the Job." Recently, Kormákur and his frequent collaborator, Agnes Johansen, produced the Icelandic comedy "Virgin Mountain," directed by Dagur Kari.
Kormákur has directed several feature films in the U.S: 2010’s "Inhale," an independent film produced by the L.A.-based 26 Films, starring Dermot Mulroney, Diane Kruger and Sam Shepard; 2012’s "Contraband"—starring Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, and Kate Beckinsale—which is a remake of Oskar Johansson’s "Reykjavik Rotterdam," written by Arnaldur Indridason, and in which Kormákur played the leading role and produced it with Agnes Johansen through his Blueeyes Productions. His last American film, the action-comedy 2013’s "2 Guns," starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, has grossed more than $131 million worldwide to date.
He also has several Icelandic projects in the works, including the psychological thriller "The Oath," which he plans to direct, from a script he co-wrote with Olafur Egillsson. Inspired by true events and set in modern Iceland, Kormákur will produce “The Oath” with Johansen.
The director graduated as an actor from Iceland’s National Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. He was immediately signed on by the National Theatre of Iceland, where he worked as one of the leading young performing artists until 1997. During the last two years of his assignment he also directed several ambitious works, after having produced and directed highly popular, independent stage productions alongside his projects with the National Theatre.
In 2000, he wrote, directed, acted in and produced the feature film "101 Reykjavik." Subsequently, Variety selected him as one of the “10 Directors to Watch.” Soon after, Kormákur formed Blueeyes Productions and has maintained his focus on feature film writing, producing and directing. His films "The Sea," "A Little Trip to Heaven," "Jar City" and "White Night Wedding" have all been very successful in Iceland and won numerous international awards. Kormákur’s "The Deep," which eerily captures the tragic real-life story of the lone survivor of a capsized fishing boat off the frigid Icelandic coast, premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was shortlisted for the foreign language Academy Awards®.
Recently, Kormákur optioned Iceland’s beloved, Nobel Prize-winning book “Independent People” to develop as a feature film and will produce the American remake of "Jar City," along with CEO of Lava Bear Films, David Linde. He also partnered with Ccp Games to bring the "Eve Universe" game to television. The Rvk Studios team, in collaboration with Ccp, will create an original concept and storyline set in the "Eve Universe." Additionally, he also produced and directed the Icelandic original serialized crime drama "Trapped."
All of Kormákur’s films are made under his Rvk Studios (formerly Blueeyes Productions), which recently opened a television arm and partnered with Dadi Einarsson and the Icelandic VFX company Framestore, now called Rvx Studios.

Iceland’s shortlisted Oscar entry “The Deep” (spring 2013) is based on the true story of the sole survivor of a downed fishing boat. Baltasar Kormakur is a member of a growing band of truly international filmmakers who make films at home as well as Hollywood. Producer-star Mark Wahlberg starred in “Contraband,” Kormakur’s remake of his own “Reykjavik-Rotterdam,” took a shine to the rugged Iceland actor-director, and went on to make another film with him, the upcoming $80-million actioner “Two Guns,” co-starring Denzel Washington. Wahlberg is also producing an HBO pilot with him, “The Missionary.”
In a year that brought us “Life of Pi” and “The Impossible,” it’s striking that Kormakur opted to shoot his survival tale on real water. He and his cameraman bobbed in the Atlantic waves off Iceland in order to make believable the plight of his lonely swimmer, talking to birds and himself for hours on the dark open sea.

Since making his transition from actor to writer/director in 2000 with the raucous comedy 101 Reykjavik, Baltasar Kormákur has rapidly established himself as one of the most gifted and versatile European filmmakers. The Icelandic multi-hyphenate has moved with seeming ease from grand family dramas (The Sea) to gritty police procedurals (Jar City) and poignant comedies (White Night Wedding), while also turning out English-language indie thrillers such as 2005′s A Little Trip to Heaven (starring Forest Whitaker, Julia Stiles and Jeremy Renner) and the 2010′s Inhale, with Diane Kruger, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard. Though Kormákur had arguably the biggest film of his career this year with Contraband – the Mark …...

Dermot Mulroney has long been a favorite of mine. He.s had an impressive career with films like Longtime Conpanion, Where The Day Takes You, Young Guns, Zodiac and recently the heartbreaking independent feature Inhale. And much like his co-star, Dallas Roberts also happens to have a pretty incredible career with his television work in .The Good Wife. and .Rubicon. and a number of film credits including 3:10 To Yuma, Joshua and A Home At The End Of The World. Diane plays a journalist kidnapped by the Taliban and stars opposite Djimon Hounsou in the film, which hits theaters in the City of Lights on Nov. 2. It's the latest in a series of thrillers and action roles for the German-born beauty. Beyond her recent big-screen projects Inhale and Unknown, Diane also made a guest appearance on her boyfriend's sci-fi series Fringe in 2010. Contraband, which hits theaters on Jan. 13, stars Mark Wahlberg as a former criminal gone straight who is forced to re-enter the life when his wife.s younger brother gets mixed up with the wrong people. It.s the classic .just when you thought you were out. scenario, and Wahlberg.s the ideal choice to play a smoldering lead tearing his way through an international gang of thieves as the threat level escalates. We ran the first trailer a few weeks ago, and now there.s an official poster: Yep. Looks like Wahlberg.s ready to go to great lengths to protect his family from some pretty nasty thugs. I don.t know enough about Contraband director Baltasar Kormákur, an Icelandic filmmaker whose credits include Jar City and Inhale. So we have to lean on the cast, which is pretty impressive. Inhale leads us on a journey of desperation as an all American couple go to deadly and dangerous lengths to save the life of their critically ill daughter. Paul Stanton (Dermot Mulroney – The Wedding Date) and wife Diane (Diane Kruger – Inglorious Basterds ) convincingly portray the torture endured by parents of a child for whom time is running out. This film’s excitement simmers right from the beginning as Paul abandons everything he stands for to travel to the violent Mexican underworld to illegally purchase human lungs from a human organ trafficking ring.

"Dogtooth," Lanthimos' much-debated Un Certain Regard winner from Cannes, concerns the lives of three culturally isolated children -- two daughters and a son, who range from mid-teens to early 20s -- fenced in by their parents' country home, who receive a reeducation when their lone connection to the outside world, a female security guard for their parents' business, introduces them to the joys of sex and Sylvester Stallone films. Meanwhile, "Irreversible" provocateur Noé's latest is a wildly ambitious 155-minute extravaganza set inside the mind of a drug dealer told from the first-person perspective. Today, THR's Heat Vision is reporting that milfy Teri Polo (Little Fockers) and dilfy Dermot Mulroney (Inhale) are the latest to join the film's cast. Nearly halfway through talking to Dermot Mulroney I asked about an indie film he made last year, though I struggled to remember the name. "'The Family Tree'?" he said, while watching me squirm. Yeah, that's the one. "I don't know whether that hit the theater, maybe for a week here or there. I know it was at the Seattle Film Festival."
"Really?" I wondered, thinking that I would've at least heard if the film co-starring Hope Davis and Christina Hendricks had been in theaters already. (It's only played the festival circuit so far.)
"If that sees the light of day, I'd bet you enjoy it," Mulroney assures me. "It's definitely got some laughs in it."
Uncertainty is not a feeling usually associated with the work of Mulroney, whose ability to exude a cool confidence has made him a go-to guy for Hollywood romantic comedies and auteurs such as the late Robert Altman,...

We’re only a week away from the Nov. 30 announcement of the Film Independent Spirit Award nominees, which always manage to sneak a few pleasant surprises (like The Vicious Kind’s Adam Scott last year) in with the expected indie hits. So here are three contenders I’m hoping might be recognized along with surefire nominees like The Kids Are All Right, Winter’s Bone, and Blue Valentine.
Best Actor: Dermot Mulroney, Inhale You’ve probably never heard of this drama, which was released last month. The story of an assistant D.A. who travels to dangerous Juarez, Mexico, to...

Joshua Jackson stopped to snack yesterday on the Vancouver set of Fringe. He's been up in Canada shooting their latest season while his girlfriend, Diane Kruger, promotes her own projects down in La. Her gritty movie Inhale opened a few weeks ago, and she landed on the December cover of Lucky to chat about her film and fashion work. Diane's next project, Unknown, will be out next year, but first up will be another holiday season for her to spend with Josh. German Diane and Canadian Josh skipped out on celebrating American Thanksgiving last year, choosing instead to have a shirtless- and bikini-filled Mexican getaway. The lovely Diane Kruger sparkles on the cover of Lucky's December holiday issue. As the face of Calvin Klein fragrance, she recently shared her favorite beauty advice with Bella and now she's divulging the secrets to achieving her chic style. Diane is traveling between projects after promoting her latest film, Inhale, which made its limited stateside release last month. Up next, we'll see her opposite Liam Neeson in the dramatic thriller Unknown early next year. Here are highlights from the magazine: Diane on fashion: "If you have a beautiful dress, that's enough-you don't need much else." On embracing the look of her characters: "I actually just had my ear pierced, and it still kind of hurts, I love it-but my mom was not so pleased." Her style evolution: "I look back at pictures of myself from 10 years ago and go, ‘What was I thinking?'" On choosing an Oscar gown:...

Diane Kruger kept her Chanel on a short leash as she caught a flight out of Lax yesterday. The star was on the go again after a recent stint shooting in Tajikistan, but she spent the last week in California making appearances for her gritty drama, Inhale, and attending special events as the face of Calvin Klein's Beauty fragrance. She's also front and center in the just-released trailer for Unknown, in which Diane stars opposite Liam Neeson and January Jones. Inhale, a film involving organ trafficking, is a detective story. On the surface it seems like a normal thriller, but when you get down to the characters and themes it’s very much done in the old school fashion of classic detective tales. The story follows someone who isn’t a boy scout, there’s side characters who turn noir archetypes on their ear, and the whole film itself is basically a mystery. Inhale could’ve been ridiculous or over the top, but it’s mostly done in a surprisingly simplistic manner. This is detective film told in a gritty fashion. Dermot Mulroney may be someone known for his “chick” flicks and some may find his turn here surprising, but Mulroney isn’t just that love interest guy people label him as. He’s played not the most charming or appealing characters in some fantastic films: Undertow, About Schmidt, and even his small turn in Zodiac didn...

Better known for playing charming romantic leads, Dermot Mulroney has recently turned his attention to a darker, deeper role. In the thought-provoking "Inhale," he portrays a man facing a moral dilemma that will mean life or death for his critically ill child. It is, pardon the pun, breathtakingly poignant work in a film that at first appears to be a thriller.Mulroney began his film career with "Sunset" in 1988 and also starred that year in "Young Guns." Years later, with "My Best Friend's Wedding," as the eponymous friend, he began to be known to the general public. Soon notable roles followed—in "Lovely and Amazing," "About Schmidt," and "Zodiac," and on "Friends" as Gavin, Rachel's replacement at work. Mulroney served as associate producer on the documentary "God Grew Tired of Us," and he is making his directorial debut with this year's "Love, Wedding, Marriage." With "Inhale," he is taking on...

Inhale is one of those minor indies without much backing and one that very few people will end up hearing about. Director Baltasar Kormákur‘s grungy tale of organ trafficking is both entertaining and thematically compelling. Kormákur didn’t make a standard thriller, at least until the third act, but rather a full-on detective story.
It doesn’t seem like a detective film on the outside, but thematically and characteristically it’s all there. It explores themes of corruption and power, like most noir. In terms of its characters, the story follows an anti-hero (Paul Stanton, played by Dermot Mulroney) and the supporting players are all based on well known archetypes. There’s the femme fatale in the form of a tranny, the protagonist’s partner in an opportunist mexican child, and as usual, there’s corruption in the police force.

At 44, actor-director Baltasar Kormakur may soon be Iceland's most famous export since Bjork. And now, with his first American film, Inhale, reaching theaters today (10/22/10) in limited release, his profile could expand. Inhale stars Dermot Mulroney, Diane Kruger and Sam Shepard in a drama about so-called organ tourism -- the desperate efforts of people in need of organ transplants to shop for them in a secretive black-market culture in Mexico and elsewhere. Mulroney and Kruger play the parents of a terminally-ill daughter who needs a new set of lungs. But Mulroney, as an upright prosecutor, finds himself pushed to make harder and harder choices when he starts looking for organs in Juarez. A star of theater and film in Iceland as an actor, Kormakur began developing an international reputation when he directed his first film, 101 Reykjavik, in 2000. Since then,...

Good things come to those who wait and for those who feel as though they've suffered through a year of largely uninspired films up to now will likely breathe a sigh of relief at the sound of names like Darren Aronofsky, Sofia Coppola and Peter Weir. 'Tis the season for Jim Carrey to take a pay cut to star in a gay romance like "I Love You Phillip Morris" or Javier Bardem is whispering sweet nothings to spirits in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu's "Biutiful" rather than Julia Roberts.
There is the naughty -- Kristen Stewart stripping in "Welcome to the Rileys," the would-be terrorists of the Brit comedy "Four Lions," or the evil Santa in "Rare Exports" -- and the nice -- the tap-dancing lovers in "Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench," the glory of James Franco's daredevil surviving "127 Hours" and Colin Firth's verbally-challenged royal conquering his stutter in "The King's Speech.

While it could be the weather or the crowds that might dissuade people from heading to the theaters this holiday season, a handful of distributors are providing plenty of reasons to stay in with plenty of films available at just the touch of a button. IFC and Magnolia continue to bring the arthouse to your house with hot festival favorites such as Lena Dunham's comedy "Tiny Furniture" and the Kerry Washington-Anthony Mackie drama "Night Catches Us" arriving on demand at the same time they hit theaters, while companies like FilmBuff and Gravitas are debuting new films from Edward Burns ("Nice Guy Johnny") and Melissa Leo ("One Night") on an array of platforms to choose from. A complete guide to what's not at your local multiplex is below.

Let's be clear about one thing from the start: many of director Baltasar Kormákur's signature talents are on display in Inhale. These would include his skill at interweaving elements of family drama with those of other genres, his gift for hinting subtly at a character's dark side, and, most of all, his unerring sense of place. In fact, maybe that's why once upon a time he might have seemed like a great fit for this project. The problem, though, is that few of these positives will be noticed by those who aren't already familiar with, or even fans of, Kormákur's previous work and aren't in fact actively looking for them. In short, most of his efforts in Inhale are simply squashed flat by a dismayingly tepid thriller-cum-message-movie script that wouldn't even cut it as a TV movie-of-the-week.

Diane Kruger cozied up to actor Dermot Mulroney last night at a home in La where they toasted their new film Inhale. The duo star together in the thriller, in which they find themselves exploring the black market of organ donation in order to save their child's life. Fortunately, Diane spent her afternoon on a slightly more chipper topic when she was the guest of honor at a special lunch for Calvin Klein's Beauty fragrance. Diane, who's the face of the scent's ad campaign, also sported one of the brand's designs on Monday at Elle's Women in Hollywood event, where she shared all about which ladies she'd love to do a movie with. She spoke to Bella, though, about her boyfriend Joshua Jackson's style and smell, also revealing her thoughts on starting her own line. Diane said: On Josh's sense of style: "You know actually I think men,...

A movie that won't win any awards from the Mexican-American Border Tourism board, Inhale takes the idea of organ-transplant tourism and drops it squarely in the middle of a dramatic thriller. It's not a comfortable fit. Directed by Baltasar Kormakur from a script by Walter Doty and John Claflin, the film plops a privileged American attorney, Paul Stanton (Dermot Mulroney), onto the drug cartel mean streets of Juarez. He's carrying big stashes of cash, trying to buy a pair of lungs for his dying daughter. Can you spell trouble down Mexico way? Kormakur initially bounces back and forth in time, following Stanton as he runs in circles in Juarez, from one bad neighborhood to another, in search of a mysterious Dr. Navarro, who supposedly has a pipeline to transplantable organs and a way to move newcomers to the top of the transplant...

Baltasar Kormakur's Inhale opens with a situation that feels too familiar these days. A sick young girl, Chloe and her frantic parents, Paul (Dermot Mulroney) and Diane (Diane Kruger) are in a dire situation. Chloe's dying from a rare degenerative condition and needs a double lung transplant, but she's low on the list. It's a virtual death sentence, and there's no way for this well-to-do couple to beat the situation. Until Paul decides to chase a lead... in Juarez, Mexico. A blue-hued thriller, Kormakur's film runs on two plotlines - one following the family as they try to save the daughter, and the other one following Paul's journey into the grime, sleaze, and danger of the Mexican underworld. The result is a thriller, that for all its twists and turns, wrestles with ethics and morality in a unique way. Tribeca talked to Mulroney, who turns in quite the bad-ass performance.

Ick. On a list of things that make me uneasy, the human organ black market would definitely be top five. Maybe Diane Kruger and Dermont Mulroney's characters in Inhale feel the exact same way. But their daughter needs a lung! They are somewhat wealthy, but not rich enough to bypass the waiting list in the U.S. And did I mention that their daughter is going to die without this lung? So it's a tough spot to begin with, but when Sam Shepard and Rosanna Arquette come along with some intriguing news about organ availability in Mexico, things start to get really messy.

Dermot Mulroney is one of those "That Guy" character actors that's been around for years, steadily working and always clocking in solid performances. The country of Mexico is really getting a bad rap in film these days. After having paired with the Icelandic director on Jar City, IFC Films have bought the rights to Baltasar Kormakur's latest thriller, Inhale. Such as 2005's A Little Trip to Heaven, Kormakur worked with English-speaking actors in Dermot Mulroney, Diane Kruger and a supporting cast that includes Sam Shepard, Rosanna Arquette, Vincent Perez and Jordi Molla. Scripted by Christian Escario with a John Claflin rewrite, formerly titled Run for Her Life, Mulroney plays a district attorney whose daughter contracts a rare illness and needs new lungs. After discovering she's low on the official U.S. waiting list, he heads to Mexico to buy his way onto their list. But his ethical nature is put to the test when he has to choose between saving hundreds of children being killed for their organs or saving his daughter's life.
