The main characters hometown ''Trawlers bay'' was made up of several different seaside and residential locations across Kent to give the town its own identity.
A specific colour spectrum was used for characters and costumes. The uses of reds, yellows and blues were primarily used in order to give the film a slightly timeless feel as well as to add quality and continuity between shots.
There is an alternative secret meaning to the film which is shown in small details throughout.
