Despite casting Willem Dafoe and working with a $2 million budget — the biggest in Sean Baker’s career — the director knew that his sixth feature, “The Florida Project,” couldn’t abandon what’s become his personal trademark: populating his films with untapped talent.

“For me, Spike Lee was always one that really did it right,” Baker said. “He would have big A-list stars in his films, and then he would always give fresh faces to some of the bigger supporting characters. He would be introducing so many new faces to the world, new talent to the industry, which is I think really important.”
“The Florida Project” has received glowing reviews (IndieWire gave it an A-, and it’s currently rated 95 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and received multiple awards, including Golden Globes and SAG nominations for Dafoe.

One New York woman has found humor in a difficult situation — and she’s inspiring others throughout her journey.
Karen, a 35-year-old creator behind the hit Instagram account Hilariously Infertile, was told by doctors that she was infertile in December 2011. Now a mother of two, she says she found strength in posting hilarious memes, video confessionals and photos on her account to “let women know they aren’t alone” in their infertility struggles.

Omarosa Manigault found herself in some hot water at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in New Orleans on Friday.
Heated words, walk-outs and turned backs were as much part of the conference as the questions leveled at Manigault — whom many thought was dodging serious questions about President Donald Trump and his attitude about police brutality, NPR reported.
“I’ll do my best to try to keep this a civil as possible,” broadcast journalist and fellow panelist Ed Gordon said in a video clip of the panel, shared by a Twitter user. “Don’t be aggressive,” Manigault responded, as she stood up.

Thanks to the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Adrian Toomes (Aka The Vulture) now belongs to an exclusive tier of Spidey villains that have featured on the big screen: Green Goblin (twice!), Electro, Rhino, Shocker, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Sandman and the Lizard.
Brought to life with great menace by Michael Keaton, who is no stranger to the comic book genre thanks to his portrayal of the Caped Crusader back in ’89, early reviews have painted The Vulture as one of the more formidable, nuanced villains in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. And considering that the studio has a history of fumbling its headline antagonists – a criticism that Marvel boss Kevin Feige has addressed in the past – Keaton’s addition to the fold has been welcomed with open arms.
But what about the as-yet-untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming 2? Aside from a July 5th, 2019 release date, firm details on Peter Parker’s next solo outing are naturally few and far between,...

New Channel 4 comedy Loaded is a very funny look at male friendship, money and success, with a strong cast and real depth…
When I meet the cast of Channel 4’s Loaded, it’s at the tail-end of a stretch of interviews during which Samuel Anderson, Nick Helm, Jim Howick and Jonny Sweet have been asked approximately four times an hour what, if they each suddenly received £15m as their app-designing characters do in the show, they’d spend it on. Before I even sit down, Sweet starts to reel off “I’d get a kettle, fill it with gold…”

First thing: it sounds awesome.
This weekend, Ben Wheatley will unleash his blood-spattered gunfight film Free Fire into movie theaters around the world. And while I may not be the movie’s biggest fan — I’ll discuss it in-depth on Monday’s episode of After the Credits, but suffice to say it’s five pounds of movie in a ten pound bag — I find myself aggressively rooting for it to succeed based entirely on the premise of Wheatley’s next movie. You see, Wheatley is about to make a movie about soldiers fighting mutant crabs in sewers, and that’s a movie the world desperately needs to see. #MakeAmericaFightGiantCrabsAgain, if you prefer. I know the kids are all about a catchy hashtag.

Josh's new girlfriend is super-cool.
It could be my longtime love of Brittany Snow that brings me to that conclusion, but Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 7 does a really phenomenal job of making Anna a lovable character, and in turn, making us hope she stays in Josh's life for a while.
Elsewhere in the hour, Paula's marriage is in turmoil, but it's nothing compared to the distance between her and Rebecca.
And Valencia is letting some of her own crazy ex-girlfriend traits come out.
Let's get into it Bunch-heads!

I genuinely feel lucky to be able to take a step away from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice this week to re-focus on Star Wars, even if only for a day to see what happened this week.
We’ll begin with The Force Awakens stuff, since we’re about a week away from when we’ll all be able to own it legally, and no, I’m not going to elaborate on the illegal side, because lame.
I don’t think I’ve learned anything from illegally obtained The Force Awakens screencaps this week that I couldn’t have waited for, so nothing from that is going to be covered. However, Disney has been pushing the DVD release by pushing some teaser video of the special features. My two favorite ones are the Maz Kanata one and the trailer for the deleted scenes.

Kristen Stewart was spotted playing Frisbee with her rumored girlfriend Soko in a Paris park on Sunday. Kristen and the French musician, whose real name is Stéphanie Sokolinski, sported matching Adidas track pants as they ran around on the grass with friends and a dog, and things seemed to get pretty heated during the game; at one point, Kristen pretended to shoulder-check her new love, but they were later seen to be hugging and laughing. It appears that Kristen jetted off to Paris to visit Soko over the weekend, as the two were spotted strolling through the Charles de Gaulle Airport on Sunday. Soko adorably greeted Kristen with a bouquet of flowers, and the pair smiled and stayed close while making their way through the terminal. The day after their cute park date, Kristen and Soko were seen holding hands during a low-key outing in the city. Though neither Soko...

Exclusive: The Act Of Killing director’s next film will be a documentary, but he is also developing two narrative features including a musical inspired by a Samuel Beckett play.
Following two acclaimed documentaries about the Indonesian genocide, The Act Of Killing and The Look Of Silence, BAFTA-winner Joshua Oppenheimer is developing two narrative features, including a musical inspired by Samuel Beckett’s play Happy Days.
Speaking to Screen at Qumra, where he is one of the Doha Film Institute event’s five Masters, Oppenheimer revealed he plans to write and direct both narrative projects, which will come after his third feature documentary.
The director is a lover of screen musicals and intends to push the boundaries and conventions of the genre as he has done with his documentaries. “It’s a form of cinema that is honest about its own sentimentality,” he said.

In her Nylon interview, Kristen opens up about her sexual preferences and makes it clear that though she may not be confirming her romance, she isn't hiding anything, either: "Google me, I'm not hiding," she said, adding, "I think in three or four years, there are going to be a whole lot more people who don't think it's necessary to figure out if you're gay or straight.

It seems nowadays that anyone who wants to make a movie can, and anyone who wants to make a movie has gone ahead and done it. Of course, almost all of it is unwatchable aping of "Chocolate Rain," but be that as it may, I had an idea, resources, and time. This unusual idea became my film, Google Me. My concept was fairly novel; I "Googled" myself one night and found many other Jim Killeen's scattered across the globe. I would take a film crew with me and try and find some underlying truth between all of us. I would be a documentary filmmaker. I polled some friends in the business, and a producer friend gave me the single best piece of advice I would get: just start. Just start? Yes, just start. This missive, Yoda-like in its simplicity proved itself...
