A massively lacklustre and stereotypical attempt to copy what's been done far better in the past. Assume only the cast have rated it so far given marks of 10 (I mean seriously, according to the user reviews it's more accomplished than Ben Hur). It's a lazy 4 at the very best. Script and delivery isn't slick enough for what it's trying to achieve and the lead characters overact and don't have the style or gravitas to pull off their roles. Got bored after about 20 minutes.
Wouldn't recommend unless you know Grimsby and perhaps enjoy recognising landmarks or can link to the history in some way. Or love ships / fish.

A honest review from somebody who doesn't live in Grimsby, nor knows any of the cast.
It's pretty poor. I was sure it was going to be when I saw a load of first time reviewers giving it ten out of ten. Unfortunately I never learn!!
A group of mates are persuaded by Jonas Armstrong to rob a safe containing half a million pounds so that they can set up their own fishing trawler.
The first hour is pretty much 'will they or won't they take part'. Spoiler Alert.... They do! Once they do it's over and done with very quickly but the film continues.
The lad narrating the film plays his part well, the rest of the unknown actors will probably stay unknown.
The storyline sounds good, the film wasn't.

In the first minutes I saw where it goes and it means nowhere where I've never been before. All that mix of music and jump up through characters you have some projection as you are seeing a kind of Ritchie's failed work and in that mix of narrator and could say a smell of the ground you are in Boyle's preparing how should be, but still not possible to be done. Even, Ken Loach would see that someone is trying to copy him. Very weak plot can't improve a good acting, even if we have in its cast the names as Colm Meaney. The creator wanted to be realistic, but he created something a pretty much far away from it.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. It's not my usual choice of film, but I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.
The leading characters were rich and had interesting backstories. The actors really took me on a journey and I was completely invested in them.
Having not grown up in England, I found the concept of the Three Day Millionaires really fascinating and personally thought that many of the themes and social commentaries were relatable to most traditional English towns and villages.
I thought that the film had a really heartwarming and beautiful community spirit too. I absolutely loved the cinematography, director's style and music. Thank you Jack and the Three Day Millionaire cast and crew.

Went in blind to see Three Day Millionaire , as a lifelong Grimsby resident , unsure of how my town would be portrayed.
( Usually Grimsby is let down in and by most media )
It was brilliant ! Go see it !
Showed how our trawlermen & fishing industry have been lost .
A locations where real and the characters amusing, it was really entertaining , went with two friends we all loved it !
Would recommend to all Grimsby adults , it tells our recent history of the loss of our fishing industry.
In an easy up to date way for all to see and understand Grimsby's history.
Hope the whole country sees it !

Enjoyable flick but if you've seen an episode of Brassic on Sky then you've seen it before. Filled with similar characters- the nice but educationally challenged types, rogues with a heart, with the usual generic nick names Curly, Budgie etc. Still worth a watch for free on Netflix though. Good to see Grimsby as the focal point for all the antics rather than London or Manchester, and you get the right feeling of how tough times are lin these small fishing towns. Acting was of a decent quality and they managed to give enough back story characterisation for a 90 odd minute film, so recommended none the less.
The classic saying Three Day Millionaire goes back to the old trawlerman days who spent most of their lives living aboard trawler ships returning to cash in oh their haul of fish and and spend more or less every penny living to the nearest thing these men would ever experience of being a millionaire.
Living local myself in Hull I found this film highly enjoyable a dark comedy that didn't fail to have the audience in laughter.
Hull like Grimsby relied heavily upon the fishing industry in the years gone by.
The film was written beautifully with a Guy Richie feel to it, there was a lot crammed into this movie but people should remember these small British film companies have nowhere near the budget of well established Film production firms camera shooting was excellent and the main cast all did a fantastic job I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of the lesser known actors/actresses in this movie.
I would highly recommend watching this movie!

Brilliantly funny film and a lovely portrait of a very proud town. Lots of rising talent both on and off screen with the director Jack Spring, well worth a watch if you're from Grimsby or anywhere else.
Colin Mooney was great as he worked with a lot of unknown talent who I'm sure won't stay unknown for long.
Jack Spring is an up and coming director who has a bright future ahead of him!
It was nice to learn more about a town I personally don't have much knowledge of. This is a very fair representation of a lot of towns in England and the film gets this across well and at the same time makes us laugh, definitely watch!!!

Witty comedy about local people in a local town. Top top film. The characters resembled such a relatable youthfulness that everyone can connect with, and their passion and pride for their home is something that everyone feels about where they're from. The plot was very easy to follow and the comedy balanced with the heightened level of seriousness was found in the perfect moments. The brotherhood between the three main characters was very evident and helped the audience get behind the boys from start to finish, with everyone feeling like they could see a bit of themselves in these boys. The direction and shooting of the film is also beautiful and showed Grimsby off to the world as more than the stereotypical way people think of it. Great film!

The film has humour that constantly creeps up on you, I live local to Grimsby and have spent some time around the fishing industry to know the characters are portrayed incredibly well. It contains enough depth to really get a feel for the personality of everyone involved. A contemporary insight into how the transition of life within the fishing industry within a town so dependant on it alone is a good enough reason to watch. To top it all off It's always refreshing to watch a film that doesn't go the exact way you expected it too. I got the pleasure of watching it at a q&a with some of the guys and girls involved which was a really interesting experience to get some of the behind the scenes understandings of what it took to put the movie together. Job well done to everyone involved.

The talented and very tall Jack Spring has smashed it with his directing skills in this lively and funny movie THREE DAY MILLIONAIRE, based on the legendary trawlermen of the fishing town of Grimsby.
Funny and down to earth characters Curly, Budge and Codge, best friends struggling with change and responsibilities. Trying to adapt to a new way of life.
Demi, Gilly and Queenie hold their own as kick ass ladies in this modern comedy with a great twist.
Thoroughly enjoyed THREE DAY MILLIONAIRE and will most certainly be recommending it to all my friends and family. A good night out at the cinema.

My husband and I saw this film on Tuesday in Beverley, hadn't heard anything about it previously but had seen most of other films showing. Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, very similar to films I grew up watching in the late 1960s. The cast were fabulous, particularly liked the way James Burrows' character talked to 'us' the audience, made it seem more realistic! Didn't see the end coming either! The Waterboys soundtrack was very fitting for the film beginning with Fisherman's Blues and ending with The Whole of the Moon. The latter is 'our' song so we were last out as had to sit and listen whilst the credits rolled!
It's truly heart-breaking knowing that some empty-headed stupid high-budget titles get all the fame, whereas the true art can be overlooked.
Three Day Millionaire has everything you need for a gem of a Film - characters you care about, strong plot, suspense, decent writing, passionate execution, fluent editing, remarkable score/soundtrack.
I felt so much emotionally attached to the story in just no time and the last thing I was expecting to see on the IMDb page was the rating this low.
I've never visited England before, but once I do, I'll definitely go see Grimsby.
Can't wait for this to come out on UHD.

Only writing this because one plonker gave it a 1/10 by mistake.
The accent are off, but better than Sasha Baron Cohen - all in all a good film to get to know Grimsby. It a recently deprived town and needs to be saved from the waves before its too late.
I lived there for a year and the people are good honest hard working citizens and are land sick waiting to back to sea. Losing The Cod wars of the 1950s and 1960s has put Grimsby in a limbo, not quiet dead not quiet alive. Was also heavily bombed in WW2. Add a splash of fishing regulations and you have trawler skippers putting glacia cherrys on buns in factories.
I hope this film puts Grimsby on the map, its got a huge potential.
