Sara Ali Khan will be seen shortly in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video presentation, ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’, which is based on the life of the young Gandhian, Usha Mehta, and her Congress Radio, which became the voice of the 1942 Quit India Movement.
Mehta was an ordinary young woman with extraordinary resilience, but she may never have been known, had her voice not benefited from the amplification provided by equipment supplied by Nanik Motwane.
He was the Bombay industrialist who ensured, literally, that Mahatma Gandhi got heard by the masses by providing the Congress with mics for its sessions and rallies. In fact, Motwane’s Chicago Radio branding appears on mics in all pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and other Congress leaders photographed during some of the iconic moments of the freedom struggle.

When Anil Kapoor was offered a lead role in the Hindi adaptation of UK drama series The Night Manager, his first thought was how he could apply what he’d learned while making the Indian version of U.S. crime drama 24.
Kapoor plays the role of an international arms dealer, played by Hugh Laurie in the original English-language series, based on the John le Carre novel, while Aditya Roy Kapur has been cast as the solider turned hotel night manager infiltrating his circle, played by Tom Hiddleston in the original show.
After being approached by Disney+ Hotstar content chief Gaurav Banerjee to play the role, he started watching the English series, which had been broadcast by BBC and AMC in 2016 and streamed by Amazon Prime Video in India. “I was impressed by the original, but we had some very strong writers and talent attached to the remake from an early stage,...

Actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, who recently had a cameo as himself in the Vikramaditya Motwane directorial Ak Vs Ak, says he approached the concept of playing himself as he would have done with any other character.
"I never approached it as myself playing myself, because I'm actually not like that in real life. I just approached it as I would (approach) any other character, building the character from scratch. We were playing versions of ourselves in the world that Vikram had imagined. I'm not really like that, so I just kind of took the material and let that dictate the approach that I took, and had a lot of fun with it," Harsh Varrdhan told Ians.
Recalling the scenes that stayed with him, he said, "The one major scene that I had was a six-seven page monologue. It is nerve wracking to do monologues, especially comedic monologues. It was a big challenge.

Photo: ‘Equinox’/Netflix Sometimes we search for series that will stretch over years, sometimes even decades, giving us an abundance of seasons and episodes to look forward to. Other times we want an intriguing mystery and mythology that holds us for as long as it can, provides thrills and intrigue, and then wraps itself up in a bow and leaves us thinking “Short and sweet, but time well spent.” Such is ‘Equinox’, Netflix’s new Danish supernatural mini-series, adapted from the acclaimed podcast ‘Equinox 1985.’ The podcast was written and created by Tea Lingeburg, who steps in as a writer for the series as Søren Balle and Mads Matthiesen take the directing helm. The mystery serves its viewers with plenty of twists and turns, morally gray characters, and some unsettling del Torro-style imagery thrown in for good measure. Over the 21st century, Bollywood cinema has entered into a completely different era of filmmaking and storytelling than was being made in the decades prior. Actors and directors who started their careers in the ‘80s and ‘90s have experienced such a drastic shift from their beginnings to what they are doing now that their older works seem almost archaic and unrecognizable. This has led, expectedly, to many of Bollywood’s artists making self-reflexive work that also reflects on the industry in general––Fan, Sanju, The Dirty Picture, Luck By Chance, and Shamitabh are just a few examples. Vikramaditya Motwane’s Ak vs Ak is the latest and best of the lot.
One of India’s most interesting filmmakers, Motwane’s movies are constantly in dialogue with both India’s cinematic past and its socio-political present. In his latest offering, he dives headfirst to deconstruct Bollywood’s cinematic identity crisis, where...

Academy Award-winning British filmmaker Danny Boyle feels Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has added a sense of truthfulness in the new release Ak Vs Ak, and says the film breaks myths around celebrity personae.
The Vikramaditya Motwane directed Ak Vs Ak casts the actor as film star Anil Kapoor whose daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor (played by Sonam Kapooor), is kidnapped by a director named Anurag Kashyap (essayed by Anurag Kashyap). Anil has to hunt his daughter within a night without informing the cops if he wants her safe, and the deal is Anurag will be filming the entire process to create his new film.
"I was absolutely astonished by 'Ak Vs Ak'! It's an extraordinary film with a great start and even better ending. One of the most insightful things about the film is how it deals with people's egos and their larger-than-life personas breaking the myths around 'celebrities' Anil and Anurag,...

With Christmas now behind us, and 2021 fast approaching, it’s a good time to review all the new content that’s been added to Netflix in the last week. Highlights include the period drama Bridgerton, as well as Charlie Brooker’s Death to 2020 special, and the George Clooney-directed The Midnight Sky. What’s been made available, then, to the platform in the last seven days?
Well, on the movie side, Brooker’s Death to 2020 adapts his Screenwipe review format for Netflix, with the likes of Hugh Grant, Stranger Things‘ Joe Keery, and Samuel L. Jackson popping up in a fictional take on this year’s events. Given the quality of the recent Black Mirror entries from Brooker, we have high expectations for this new one-off, even if the world’s apparently been too bleak for a fresh batch of episodes. Another big original release, meanwhile, is Robert Rodriguez’s We Can Be Heroes,...

"You are running out of time... go save her." Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an intriguing new film from India titled Ak vs Ak, from filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. This is a wacky, meta action-comedy film about Bollywood, but it isn't really a Bollywood film, more about the inner workings of Bollywood and all of the crazy things that happen behind-the-scenes. A brash film director (starring Anurag Kashyap as himself) kidnaps the daughter of a movie star (Anil Kapoor also as himself) then films the star's desperate search for his daughter in real-time as his next blockbuster. It's certainly a crazy meta-upon-meta concept, inspired by actual infighting and real-world controversy within the Bollywood industry. Surprise, surprise. Also starring Sonam Kapoor & Harshvardhan Kapoor. Even if you don't know much about Bollywood, it still looks like a fascinating subversive film that's wildly entertaining.
