There is too much brutality

This photoplay has a distorted sort of a plot with many unpleasant scenes. The photography is very clear and the direction and acting are well done. There is too much brutality, and the ending, where a kindly minister is shot, might have been cut out to advantage and improved the picture. - The Moving Picture World, August 22, 1914
