The (almost) annual tradition of watching a new V/H/S movie will continue this October with the newly announced seventh film in the franchise V/H/S/Beyond, being released on October 4 on Shudder and AMC+.

Variety exclusively reports that the seventh installment will feature some really exciting collaborations, like the directorial debut of Kate Siegel, best known for starring in projects such as The Fall of the House of Usher, Hush, and The Haunting of Hill House, all of which were created by her husband and frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan.

Siegel's segment in V/H/S/Beyond is titled "Stowaway" and comes from a script she wrote with Flanagan. Barbarian star Justin Long also has a segment in the new film, one he wrote and directed with his brother Christian Long.

The Head Hunter aka The Head is a medieval feature from Portugal. Part fantasy and part horror, The Head Hunter had its World Premiere at the Sitges Film Festival, in Spain. Since then, Vertical Entertainment has picked up the film for distribution in the United States. In the film, a medieval warrior protects his home and country from strange monsters and the occult. In search of revenge, this warrior hopes to slay the creature that killed his daughter. This title was directed by Jordan Downey (ThanksKilling), from a script by Kevin Stewart ("Unfriended: Dark Web"). This title is slated for an early April release, with more details below. The trailer shows some of the Head Hunter's (Christopher Rygh) anger. He has his gruesome trophy collection in his home. In search of the creature, he roams the countryside and finds what he is looking for inside a small cave, leading to a final confrontation.

Acquisition

Vertical Entertainment has acquired worldwide distribution rights to medieval horror movie “The Head” and will launch international sales at the American Film Market, which opens Oct. 31 in Santa Monica, Calif.

The independent feature, which premiered at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain, is produced, directed and written by Jordan Downey (“ThanksKilling”). Kevin Stewart (“Unfriended: Dark Web”) co-wrote and produced along with Ricky Fosheim (“Uneasy Lies the Mind”).

“The Head” follows a bounty hunter who seeks vengeance on the monster that slayed his only daughter. It was shoot almost entirely in Portugal and is the film debut of Christopher Rygh. The deal was negotiated by Josh Spector on behalf of Vertical Entertainment and Ricky Fosheim of Detention Films on behalf of the filmmakers.

He's induced laughter and chills in previous projects like ThanksKilling, Critters: Bounty Hunter, and Red Weather, but in his latest short film, director Jordan Downey channels the nostalgia of Stranger Things and combines it with the coming-of-age poignancy of early Stephen King stories in Techno Western, which you can watch right now on Daily Dead.

"What was the genesis and inspiration for this project?

Jordan Downey: The idea, really, is drawn from my childhood. When I was a kid I would always take my squirt guns and spray paint them to look like some cannon or prop from Star Wars. I’d duct tape flashlights and pocket knives to the barrel and pretend to go “hunting” in the woods for bad guys.

I’ve seen a lot of goofy and absurd indie horror-comedies in my lifetime but a horror-comedy about a homicidal, foul-mouthed turkey on a killing spree as in ThanksKilling 3 takes the cake without question.

This turkey isn’t just preying on a bunch of kids on thanksgiving though – there’s an offbeat, pretty creative plot at work that sees the titular turkey going into a killing spree after learning that copies worldwide of ThanksKilling 2 were obliterated because it was the worst movie ever – a winking nod for the events to follow, I’d wager.

Meanwhile, there’s also an intriguing plot following a cute puppet named Yomi as she enlists the help of humans and puppets alike to help her search for the missing piece of her mind – yeah, it’s odd but It is actually oddly charming I found.

Back in 2009, an extremely independent Thanksgiving themed horror film was created called ThanksKilling, introducing the world to a foul-mouthed and murderous one-liner serving fowl named Turkie. I caught Jordan Downey’s film streaming on Netflix late one night with an equally open-minded horror fan, and we were completely taken aback by the amature-ish nature of the film. It was like a film school project gone wrong, attempting to make the most crude jokes and terrible dialogue while playing around with a turkey puppet, hoping to achieve “so bad it’s good” fame. I mean sure, Ok, a horror film centered around a demonic turkey with a knack for terrible puns sounded like an entertaining watch at least, as long as you’re a die-hard B-Movie fan, but the intelligence level of ThanksKilling was comparable to an unborn fetus. A downright painful experience for anyone expecting a fun, low-budget horror romp with some demented holiday action.

Some people hated ThanksKilling, others (like me) thought it was fantastic piece of horror humor. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I heard there was going to be a sequel. And it's finally on its way.

ThanksKilling 3 (yep, they skipped past #2, but, in a rather clever way) centers once again around the fowl-mouthed villian 'Turkie' as he hacks his way to locate the last copu of "ThanksKilling 2". The rare film has found itself in the hands of a bunch of disturbed puppets.

I was unaware that there was a Thankskilling 1, but there you go. This seems to be one of those films with tongue planted so firmly in cheek that it threatens to burst through the skin. And with that image in your head, check out the new poster for Thankskilling 3, one of the first fruits of a new generation of crowdfunded films. This exists thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, so the public is whom to blame/thank for the film.

The low budget horror comedy ThanksKilling (review) is getting a sequel. The original flick garnished many watched on Netflix and has become a bit of a cult classic.

Currently, Jordan Downey has launched a Kickstarter page in order to raise $100,000 for the sequel.

The details are being kept under wraps but word has it they are looking to develop a movie in the same vein as Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. We'll see how that all pans out.

The movie has reportedly already obtained distribution in the form of VOD with the guys over at Gravitas Ventures and is shooting for a release in the fall of 2012.

In 2007, a couple of college kids shot campy B-movie called ThanksKilling when they should have been studying. They either graduated or were kicked out, and think that shooting a sequel might mean they can move out of mom's basement. Okay, I may have made that last part up, but they are shooting a sequel. Creators Kevin Stewart and Jordan Downey have started a Kickstarter project to raise the funds. While their goal budget is $100,000, the duo already have enough funds pledged to them to match their first masterpiece. The wackiest, zaniest, no-budget camp/cult “classic” in ThanksKilling is gearing up for a bigger and better sequel. The only catch is writer/director Jordan Downey needs the film’s fans help. ThanksKilling was shot for $3,500 in 2007 by 21 year old college roommates Kevin Stewart and Jordan Downey over 11 days during their summer break at Loyola Marymount University. It was about a year ago I reviewed a movie called Zombeak! that billed itself as a the world's first satanic killer chicken movie. I didn't think that wacko movie could possibly be topped in the unholy poultry department. That was until I heard about ThanksKilling. Now it's a turkey turning the tables on mankind.

Currently seeking a distributor, ThanksKilling is filmmaker Jordan Downey's loony horror comedy about a group of college kids on their Thanksgiving break getting carved up by a turkey from hell. What more needs to be said aside from "Gobble, Gobble, Motherfucker!"
