There is no doubt that Marvin Gaye's immortal classic song "What's Going On" is one of those important timeless songs that can fit into any decade
while addressing many social and problematic issues from violence to prejudice, just to name a few. And because of that it's most likely that there are
countless of renditions and music videos being made for it, and among those, this is considered the official, even though it was made many decades later.
It's presents a mix involving actors playing a group of characters facing a series of difficulties (the situations at the hospital with a guy trying to
help everybody is chaos approaches is the most interesting) and there's also plenty of archive images from BLM protests over police brutality and similar,
and a brief appearance of Marvin at the introduction.
It's an interesting way to introduce the song to a new generation and to give old fans a chance to see a music video for it...even though there was
an old music video with an impressive and memorable collage of images from the 1970's and some animation too. I'm not sure when it was made if it was at
the time or maybe in the 1970's but I do remember seeing it on VH1 a couple of times and it was amazing because it dealt not only with racial prejudice
but it showed all the major issues that happened in the 1970's, political protests against Nixon, the oil crisis and many other issues where it seemed
that America and the whole world could end at any minute. Sadly, even in this day and age of the internet I could not find that video - maybe I need a
more thorough search. The 2019 video is cool, nothing wrong with it but the other one affected me a lot more. Yet we still wonder what in the world is
going on. 8/10.
