Spirit Quest began as a short film that co-writer/producer Brent Lydic and Tip Scarry then expanded into a feature film organically, through "rehearsing, re-writing, improvising, melding."
The film's 'night bike ride scene' was inspired by the confluence of a concept that Lydic had been toying with for some time, and the fact that Scarry had moved to Los Angeles by biking across the country, and still biked everywhere in the city when the two met.
Brent Lydic and Tip Scarry originally met doing improv classes at UCB.
The final day of shooting had to be pushed when, at a blocking rehearsal the day before, director Brent Lydic received a call from his pregnant wife that she was going into labor a few weeks early.
Gregory Alan Isakov's 'San Luis Obisbo' was part of director Brent Lydic's original wishlist for the soundtrack to the film.
