Tagline: "Roll them bones." Knucklebones is an indie horror feature from director and writer Mitch Wilson. The film has recently been completed. And, Knucklebones stars Julin (Spirit Camp), Cameron Deane Stewart and Justin Arnold. In the film, a demon is released from its hellish bounds, through a game of chance. A trailer for this title was released just over a month ago. Horror fans might have missed the clip as this critic did. The full trailer is listed below. The film's story is influenced by the slasher genre. A group of friends come together for a night of fun. They draw a pentagram and perform a ritual, from an ancient legend. Unfortunately, their prank turns to reality when a demon is summoned. This killer takes no prisoners, only body parts. The first trailer for Knucklebones is a chilling one. It shows the principal characters, environments and the demon. This dark...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by director Kyle Day. Director: Kyle Day. Writer: Garrett Hargrove. Cast: Julin, Nick Manning, Denise Williamson, John Gabriel Rodriguez, and Allen Hackley. Tagline: "Don't light her fuse." Cherry Bomb joins a long list of rape revenge thrillers. From The Last House on the Left to I Spit on Your Grave, from Baise Moi to Irreversible, there have been dozens of entries in this genre. Director Kyle Day's first entry into this prolific category is stylized and reminiscent of John Carpenter's visual and auditory style such as Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). Day's directing style is more over-the-top compared to Carpenter; this is also an exploitation film after all. In the end, Cherry Bomb is an enjoyable ride with gunfire and violence overruling the nudity and sexuality. The story of the film focuses on the "Pussy Hut." This is a strip club where Cherry,...

We're running a bit late, but in honor of Indie Horror Month our March Texas Frightmaker is someone deeply embedded in the indie horror scene, scream queen Roxy Vandiver. In a short time Roxy has established a reputation as one of the next generation of gorgeous screamers in films like Sweatshop, Spirit Camp, and Killer School Girls from Outer Space.
Mr. Dark: Since some of our readers might not be aware of you, who the hell are ya?
Roxy Vandiver: I'm Roxy Vandiver, Best Actress winner at both the City of Death Film Festival and the Splatterfest Film Festival. I've been in about a dozen or so films, and I'm also the life of every party!
MD: A lot of scream queens wind up in that role. You're aiming for it intentionally. Why?
Rv: I wasn't originally aiming for the title of "Scream Queen"; I just happen to live...

There have been many films created about a legendary monster spotted in and around Texarkana. The creature has been called the Fourke Monster, but here the hairy villain will be known more simply as bigfoot or the Sasquatch. There have been at least three other Boggy Creek films beginning in 1972 and this reviewer admits to not seeing any of the previous films (The Legend of Boggy Creek, Return to Boggy Creek). Boggy Creek, starring Texas Battle ("Death Valley"), Melissa Carnell (Humans Versus Zombies), Julin (Sweatshop) and Denise Williamson (Spirit Camp), in a very under the radar release in this series as Hannover House did not promote the September 13th release on DVD at all. The lack of tension in a supposed horror movie explains why there was little fan fare.

The entries are in and the votes have been tabulated. I will now announce the two awesome, clever winners of the Planet Fury/SplatterFest 2011 Oasis of Terror Contest.
But first, I want to extend a hearty thanks to Kerry Beyer and Kelly Burns Smith, the perpetual motion machine that keeps SplatterFest running. They've been most gracious and have shown Planet Fury a lot of consideration this year. What they've done down in Houston is pretty cool. Besides being two of the nicest and most attractive people in Southeast Texas (seriously, you should see them), they are also two of the most committed people…or they are two of the most often committed people — I always mix that up. Whatever. Kelly and Kerry don't seem too dangerous, and after watching them in action, I appreciate all the sleep they sacrifice to make SplatterFest happen. They are truly the keepers of the flame.

It's been a frighteningly entertaining week down in the Bayou City. SplatterFest — Houston's leading horror film festival — is in full swing, delivering eerie entertainment to an eager Southeast Texas audience. But, sadly, it all ends tonight.
Since Tuesday, hundreds of horror and genre fans have flooded the Alamo Drafthouse for a nonstop cinematic menu of horrific exploitation fare garnished with a side of special guests.
After kicking off with two straight nights of horror shorts created specifically for the event, SplatterFest presented the world premieres of the rape/revenge flick Cherry Bomb and the faux-documentary Humans vs. Zombies.
Last night belonged to legendary genre vet Michael Biehn and his lovely wife, actress/producer Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, who is Michael's partner in every sense of the word. The couple was at SplatterFest to support two special films. The evening opened with a showing of the Biehns' new badass grindhouse thriller, The Victim,...

She brings a few friends for a week-long stay, but their vacation soon turns deadly. They are warned of an evil that has lurked near the water for three decades, a terrifying creature that murders men and abducts women. While camping, Jennifer and her friends encounter this evil, finding themselves on the feeding grounds of a giant beast. What began as a journey of self discovery becomes a desperate fight for survival along Boggy Creek.

Are there any two busier cuties right now than Denise Williamson and Julin Jean? These pair of “Hotties” have become the newest “Scream Queens” of the horror genre thanks to their roles in Spirit Camp, Boggy Creek, and Killer School Girls from Outer Space. Their latest is the short film Bright Ideas, which appears to be outside of the genre, but we at Killer Film are big fans and we wish them the best on anything they do.

Kerry Beyer burst onto the independent film scene last year with his directorial debut Spirit Camp. Kerry took some time out for Killer Film to tell us about how this was much more than just the typical directorial debut.
Joshua Hull: Where did the initial concept of Spirit Camp come from?
Kerry Beyer: The idea for Spirit Camp really grew out of my love for 80’s slashers. I missed those types of movies, and I wanted to do an updated twist of the genre while keeping the old school vibe and pacing. …and who doesn’t want to see hot, half naked cheerleaders getting hacked up? I mean, the whole cheerleader thing has worked pretty well for Hustler, lol.
Hull: Now you wrote, directed, produced & were an actor in this film. You were also the cinematographer, editor, sound editor and handled all of the digital effects. Were you...

From Texas filmmaker Kerry Beyer and Kerosene Films comes Spirit Camp, a delightfully entertaining slasher comedy highly respective of ‘80s horror. A cheerleader’s mom takes her and her friends out to a cheerleading camp for the summer. Coming along for the ride are some cute, flighty cheerleaders looking towards a summer of practice and the occasional drugs and alcohol to sneak behind the backs of their trainers. Also along for the ride is a sarcastic, anti-establishment troublemaker of a girl who’s spent some time in a juvenile detention center and is going to the camp as part of her punishment. The local sheriff warns the girls that a maniac had escaped from a nearby asylum. Several characters come into play which of whom could possibly be this psycho, including a camp caretaker, a gas station attendant, and a whacky old dude. As nighttime nears, people soon start disappearing.

A plethora of wimpy Jason Voorhees and Michael Meyers wannabes has submerged the slasher sub-genre in a swampy, leech-infested lake leaving me with no other choice but to accept the inevitable: my once immortal horror heroes have sadly been plagued with mortality by much tamer modern day manifestations of the macabre. Boggy Creek is definitely not a remake of 1972, as Julin (Spirit Camp) tells 28Dla.com, but an original feature that is the first to show the Caddaja. The Caddaja is an ancient creature from the ancient Caddo culture, that likes human flesh. Julin, who appears as Kay O'Brien in the feature, also states that the film was shot in the north-east of Texas near Louisiana. Lots of swamps here. Also, director Brian T. Jaynes sums up the plot of the film succintly: "it's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas" and "we painted our own version of Sasquatch." The Bigfoot could really use a revamp. So, check out some of these pictures of Julin, the set, and her co-star Cory Hart as Dustin O'Brien.

Director/writer: Kerry Beyer.
Spirit Camp is a film that was edited, directed, and scored by actor Kerry Beyer. The film was released on DVD on December 27th and the film blends campiness, cheerleaders, and some choice cuts in this second Kerosene Film production. The acting by a few of the smaller characters comes across as amateurish, but Julin as Rachel and Roxy Vandiver as Nikki shine like two golden globes. Spirit Camp is a film for horror film fans made by horror film enthusiasts.
The story starts off with a small group of cheerleaders camping in the forest at night and viewers will instantly know something not good is going to happen. Fast forward a bit and we have the first nude shot three minutes out and a gorey sequence shortly after that. These early scenes do their job and hook the viewer, hopefully not fatally. Two years into...

A fresh new face in the "Indie Scream Queen" scene that we have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of over the course of the next few years is actress/musician Julin. (Yes, one word name, just like Madonna.) Shock first took notice of her as the gothed-out character Miko in Stacy Davidson's Sweatshop . What's impressive about her performance in that film is that it's completely different from her actual physical appearance, yet her natural beauty transcends the long dreads and caked on goth make-up. She'll be appearing in several upcoming genre titles such as Spirit Camp , Boggy Creek and Killer School Girls From Outer Space , but you can catch her on the big screen this Friday in After Dark Films' The Final , which is one of Horrorfest 4's 8 Films To Die For....

A few days ago Foy clued us in to the proposed remake of 1972's The Legend of Boggy Creek. At that time no details were available, but today a source close to the production dropped us a line with the names of not only the director but also several key cast members.
To be called simply Boggy Creek, the redux stars Damon Lipari (of the upcoming Wrong Side of Town) as Dave, Jennifer Sipes (Oliver Stone's W), Melissa Carnell, Samuel Haun, Carlos Tovar, Jennifer Minar, and Julin (pictured, of the upcoming Sweatshop and Spirit Camp) as Kay. It is being directed by Brian T. Jaynes, who just wrapped on the urban thriller Hittin' the Streets with Texas Battle and Toni Trucks.
