In interviews to promote the series, Mackenzie Crook said he had never watched the original ITV series starring Jon Pertwee as a child because his family only watched programmes that were on the BBC back then. He therefore had no worries about being compared with such a legendary performer as Pertwee and felt a new version should be judged as something quite separate from the original.
Filming of a second series had been planned for Spring/Summer 2020 for broadcast later in the year but was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is hoped filming can begin in late Summer 2020 for broadcast on BBC One before the end of the year.
In series 2 episode 1 after Worzel eats the onion two people and a yellow sports car can be seen in the field behind, a nod to mckenzies much loved other show The Detectorists.
The farmhouse location also featured in Man Down (2013) season one, episode eight, "Finding Nesta".
The band The Unthanks (named after the sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank) contribute orginal music to series and feature in person in the episode 'Saucy Nancy' performing the closing sea shanty.
