The upcoming MCU project ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has garnered significant attention, driven both by fan excitement and production challenges. Issues ranging from the SAG-AFTRA strike to disagreements between showrunners and the studio have impacted its development.
Despite these hurdles, it was announced that the new iteration of the show would closely tie in with the original Netflix series, with several actors reprising their roles. Charlie Cox returns as Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, the Punisher. Margarita Levieva portrays Heather Glenn, a love interest of Matt Murdock, while Michael Gandolfini appears as Daniel Blade. Sandrine Holt takes on the role of Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s wife. Additionally, Nikki M. James plays Kirsten McDuffie, Genneya Walton portrays Bb Urich, and Clark Johnson is cast as Cherry. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is one of the most talked-about upcoming MCU projects, partly due to the fan-fueled hype and partly due to its turbulent production that’s been plagued with everything from SAG-AFTRA strike to creative differences in what the showrunners wanted and what the studio wanted.
Later it was announced that the new version of the show would be more akin to the continuation of the original Netflix series, with many actors reprising their roles. Carlie Cox will return to reprise his role as Daredevil, and D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Jon Bernthal will portray Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Margarita Levieva plays Heather Glenn, a love interest of Matt Murdock. Michael Gandolfini appears as Daniel Blade, while Sandrine Holt portrays Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s wife. Nikki M. James takes on the role of Kirsten McDuffie, and Genneya Walton plays Bb Urich, a young journalist.

Coronavirus has changed everything, but as New York Media’s Kara Swisher said in TheGrill 2020 Tuesday, the real question is, “Will it continue afterward?”
Swisher and her co-panelists, the New York Times’ Ben Smith and “Luke Cage” executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker, think it will. As they told TheWrap founder and editor in chief Sharon Waxman, they believe the change will be enduring because much of it began prior to the upheaval of 2020.
As newsrooms and entertainment staffs face calls for more diversity, for instance, Coker said inclusion isn’t a new demand. He had a bleak message on how distant it remains as a goal, too: “Society has to fall apart for a brother or sister to get a break.”
Coker reflected on his past career as a journalist and noted the challenges facing the Los Angeles Times, which has seen calls to diversify its editorial staff and leadership...

In a first for the Acm Awards, two artists tied for the night’s top prize: Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood each won Entertainer of the Year. “2020, right?” Underwood said, upon accepting the award and elbow-bumping host Keith Urban. Underwood won Entertainer of the Year twice before in 2008 and 2009; this is Rhett’s first Entertainer win.
Elsewhere, Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get was named Album of the Year. The “Lovin’ on You” singer also won Male Artist of the Year, while Maren Morris won Female Artist of the Year.

Despite making his first comic book appearance all the way back in 1972, it would be over 40 years before Luke Cage finally made his live-action debut in the first season of Jessica Jones before going on to headline his own solo show, but there had previously been several attempts to bring the character to the big screen over the decades.
Quentin Tarantino toyed with the idea of writing and directing Luke Cage with Laurence Fishburne in the lead role back in the 1990s, while Boyz n the Hood and 2 Fast 2 Furious filmmaker John Singleton tried to get an adaptation off the ground in the early 2000s as Jamie Foxx and Tyrese Gibson found themselves linked to the project.

Most of the speculation surrounding the former Netflix residents that are now back under the Marvel Studios banner has focused on when, and not if, the Defenders will be rebooted and absorbed into the world’s biggest franchise. After all of the shows were canceled within months of each other, it was reported that there was a two-year hold on adapting the characters again, which is why we’ve yet to hear any concrete information about future plans for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Punisher.
Charlie Cox is widely expected to reprise his role as the Man Without Fear, though, and talks could open in the very near future with Daredevil originally being canned in November 2018. There’s also been plenty of chatter surrounding Jon Bernthal, who has never shied away from the fact that he holds Frank Castle close to his heart and would love...

Denzel Washington has long since secured legendary status as one of the greatest actors to ever grace the big screen, and even at 65 years old he remains one of the most consistent names in the business that rarely lends his talents to a bad movie. He’s also one of the very few stars in the brand-focused era we live in that can sell almost any project to audiences based on his presence alone.
While the two-time Academy Award winner is no stranger to the action genre, he’s never been interested in the franchise business, with The Equalizer 2 marking the first and so far only sequel of his career. Meanwhile, he’s also avoided comic book movies entirely with the exception of 2013’s largely forgotten 2 Guns.

Y: The Last Man could prove to be a bellwether TV project… and not just for adaptations of comic books depicting an apocalyptic world in which the entire male gender – save for one survivor – has been eradicated from a global catastrophe, leaving a society run entirely by women.
The series is based on the DC Comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, depicting an intriguing sociological sandbox, certain to brandish an array of relevant topical themes. Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions made the announcement that Y: The Last Man has been ordered to series during the 2019 TCA winter press tour.
The project has experienced some turbulence behind the scenes on its way to television, however. Y: The Last Man was originally earmarked for 2020 on FX but then underwent a creative reshuffling with Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom) replacing Michael Green...

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were heartbroken when the studio announced that the entirety of Phase Four was set to be delayed due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, with the wait between new McU movies now the lengthiest in over a decade. While we now have to wait until November to get an idea of what Kevin Feige has planned for the franchise over the next couple of years, the unfortunate setback could also turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

As the first to debut, as well as the only one to get three full seasons alongside Jessica Jones, Daredevil was always viewed as the flagship series of Netflix’s collaboration with Marvel Television. The show also received some of the strongest reviews from critics, particularly when it came to the signature fight sequences, and the loss of Matt Murdock seemed to hit fans harder than the rest of his Defenders cohorts when it was announced that all of the streaming service’s Marvel slate was axed.
Due to the timing, which not-too-coincidentally happened alongside Disney’s takeover of Fox, the smart money was on the entire Netflix lineup being canceled so that Marvel Studios could reboot Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Punisher into the McU. While Kevin Feige was initially planning on casting fresh faces, speculation over the last few months has hinted that Charlie Cox,...

It’s easy to take the music of Star Wars for granted. After all, that would mean no iconic opening fanfare. There would be no disco remixes nor any “Cantina Band” for future filmmakers to quote from. College marching bands would have to find something other than “The Imperial March” to tease the away team with, and Nick Winters would never treat his lounge audience to his timeless cover. A reality without Star Wars music would find a different soundtrack sitting atop AFI‘s greatest film scores.
Fortunately, John Williams’s original Star Wars score did happen, and in 1977 it was a big deal. Disco and R&B owned the pop music charts. For science-fiction and fantasy cinema — genres whose idealism had diminished in the wake of the Vietnam War and Watergate –soundscapes were defined by synthetic music that separated viewers from their fantastical worlds onscreen. The hectic I Declare War is out this weekend, brimming with bloody violence and memorable characters. Autism awareness has steadily increased over the last decade. Though the public is far more educated on the topic than the past, a large misunderstanding still remains. The spectrum of autism is vast covering a variety of characteristics and behaviors, which may help explain why it has been handled so differently in films. Films like Rain Main present it with more of a comedic edge, while something like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close relies more on the dramatic aspects. Alonso Mayo’s The Story of Luke cuts the difference. The Story of Luke is small indie dramedy that puts a small twist on the coming of age tale. While the story is certainly familiar, its large amount of sincerity causes it to be touching tale of overcoming odds. This slice-of-life...

This is a big month for Seth Green -- he not only stars in the incredibly powerful and moving The Story of Luke, playing Zack, a brilliant It specialist with autism, but he also stars in Sexy Evil Genius, as Zachary, a corporate drone who has lost control over his life. First names aren't all the two characters share, as both roles offer Green the chance to bring to life the kinds of people who wouldn't normally have movies made about them.
While Sexy Evil Genius is basically the nexus of all things cult-y thanks to stars Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, Katee Sackhoff, Anthony Michael Hall and Harold Perrineau, and the noir-ish drama fully capitalizes on those actors' appeal, the real reason to check out Sexy Evil Genius is because it's a damn fine thriller.

Title: The Story of Luke Director: Alonso Mayo Starring: Lou Taylor Pucci, Cary Elwes, Kristin Bauer, Seth Green, Tyler Stentiford, Mackenzie Munro, Kenneth Welsh, Sabryn Rock A winning little dramedy hung chiefly on the solid peg of Lou Taylor Pucci’s lead performance, “The Story of Luke” offers up an experiential snapshot of adult autism without descending into cloying sentimentality or didactic moralizing. Written and helmed by first-time feature director Alonso Mayo — and rooted in childhood experiences of watching his mother oversee an educational center for kids and adults with developmental delays — the movie is mostly a comedy, but one that largely eschews outlandishness and never drifts too far [ Read More ]

A feel-good story about an autistic man's quest for independence, The Story of Luke is a charming little film in need of a bit more grit. After the grandmother who raised him dies, 25-year-old Luke (Lou Taylor Pucci) is sent to live with his aunt and uncle (Kristin Bauer van Straten and Cary Elwes). Luke is a high-functioning autistic who longs to find a real job so he can get his own place and, more important, ask a pretty receptionist (Sabryn Rock) out on a date. Peruvian-born writer-director Alonso Mayo, making his feature debut, has a flair for small, funny riffs, as when Luke's manic new boss (Seth Green) offers Luke a play-by-play commentary on a water-cooler mating dance between two co-workers. Luke would like to be liked, but he's not going to compromise his annoying, rul...

Lou Taylor Pucci is playing one of the many young people who gets victimized by all the demonic craziness going on in this weekend's Evil Dead, but he's got another, much more nuanced role coming to theaters as well. In the exclusive clip above you can get a glimpse of his performance in The Story of Luke, in which he plays an autistic 25-year-old whose life changes entirely when he's forced to move in with his distant relatives. All he has guiding him is his grandfather's final words: "Get a job. Find a girl. Live your own life. Be a man!" In the clip you can see Luke in conversation with his uncle Paul (The Princess Bride's Cary Elwes), in which an emotional moment doesn't go quite as planned thanks to Luke's autism. The cast also includes Seth Green-- who you know from everything from Robot Chicken to...

More casting news kept the fan base excited for writer/director Fede Alvarez's reboot of the cult classic The Evil Dead. Lou Taylor Pucci, a regular in the independent film scene with dramas Thumbsucker, The Go-Getter and The Music Never Stopped, changed genres and joined The Evil Dead as one of the group of teens battling the beyond-the-grave beasties in an isolated cabin. Variety earlier confirmed that Red Riding Hood star Shiloh Fernandez joined the film and actress Jane Levy replaced Lily Collins as the female lead. Pucci, 26, recently completed work on the indie dramas All Together Now, about a group of twenty-somethings at a rock concert, and The Story of Luke, about a young man with autism.

Actor Seth Green has largely stuck to animated comedy lately, playing Chris Griffin in Family Guy, providing motion capture for Mars Needs Moms, and writing for, doing voices for, and producing his stop-motion Adult Swim show, Robot Chicken.
Having more than proven himself in comedy, Green’s gearing up to give drama a try. The Hollywood Reporter confirms the actor has been cast opposite Lou Taylor Pucci (Thumbsucker) in The Story of Luke, a film about an autistic man (Pucci) trying to find a job and a girlfriend. The Story of Luke was written by Alonso Mayo based on his own documentary, Just Like Anyone, about families of children with developmental disabilities at his mother’s education and rehabilitation school in Peru. It will be Mayo’s fictional directorial debut.
