It has been seven years since Steven Spielberg's animated adventure film The Adventures of Tintin was released. Peter Jackson was supposed to direct the sequel after he was finished with The Hobbit trilogy but there's been radio silence on any development of the project for years.
But while Spielberg was making the press rounds for Ready Player One, Premiere asked him for an update and he confirmed that the sequel is still in development, saying:
"Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script. As it takes two years of animation work on the film, for you, I would not expect to see it for about three years. But Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!"
That's good to hear! I really liked the first Tintin film and I've been hoping that the sequel would actually get made.

Meet the films sequels that might not be dead, but are certainly stuck in some kind of limbo...
Every now and then, a sequel that appears to have been in the cooker for a while – Zoolander 2, Dumb And Dumber To, Anchorman 2 – finally escapes into the wild. But the journey to the screen can be a very lengthy one, and this little lot are still trying to find their way to your local multiplex…
Dick Tracy 2
Disney gambled hard on bringing Dick Tracy to the screen in the summer of 1990, backing the vision of director and star Warren Beatty, and hoping to ape the success that Warner Bros had enjoyed the summer before with Batman. Yet whilst Dick Tracy hit, it didn’t hit too hard. The studio adjusted its-then blockbuster strategy accordingly, and it wouldn’t really be until it got to the likes of...

Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.

It’s not exactly news that Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg agreed to take on one entry each in their planned Tintin trilogy. But now the two filmmakers have finally given some official confirmation that Jackson will get to work on the second film once they receive the go-ahead from their studio backers.“Sony and Paramount were willing to do one movie with us and then give us the financial wherewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards and get it really in launch position. So we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written,” Spielberg explained to the Hollywood Reporter (via The Playlist). The script, or at least one of the drafts, comes from author Anthony Horowitz, who was hired last year to develop a story based on an amalgam of two adventures: Prisoners Of The Sun and The Seven Crystal Balls.

From the beginning, the plan was to have Peter Jackson direct the sequel to The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn. Spielberg helmed the first and the third installment of the trilogy would go to someone unannounced. Today Jackson confirmed that he would be directing the sequel, The Adventures Of Tintin: Prisoners Of The Sun as soon as The Hobbit was complete. Jackson served as producer on the first film. After the confirmation, Spielberg explained that they don't have the...
