The road to achieving a happy ending is a little too rough for two guys Kartik and Aman. While Aman's family tries hard to battle his love for Kartik, Kartik isn't prepared to step back until he marries Aman.

Presenting the life of two gay men who are in love, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan depicts their struggle to convince their families to accept the relationship. But things are never as easy as they seem and one of the boy`s family decides to get him married to a girl. Will their `unconventional` love prevail?

Every love story deserves a happy ending. But the road to achieving this happy ending is a little too rough for Kartik and Aman. While Aman's family tries hard to battle his love for Kartik, Kartik isn't prepared to step back until he marries Aman.

Partners Karthik and Aman don't have it easy in their road to achieving a happy ending, while Aman's family tries to get him married to someone else, Karthik doesn't step down unless he marries Aman. A sequel to the 2017 film, titled Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.

Aman Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) and Kartik Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) are gay and love each other. Aman's parents are Shankar Tripathi (Gajraj Rao) and Sunaina Tripathi (Neena Gupta). Sunaina wants Aman/Guddu to wed neighbor's daughter Kusum (Pankhuri Awasthy), who already thinks of Aman as her husband. Shankar's bro is Chaman Tripathi (Manu Rishi), his wife Champa Tripathi (Sunita Rajwar) and daughter Goggle/Rajni Tripathi (Maanvi Gagroo).

Aman and Karthik help their friend Devika (Bhumi Pednekar) run away from her house. The whole Mohalla is now after them and both decide to attend Aman's cousin sisters (Goggle) wedding in Allahabad to lie low for a few weeks. Pretty soon Shankar sees Aman and Karthik kissing and can't believe his own eyes. He falls unconscious. the doctor questions Sunaina's cooking, who in turn questions the contribution of Champa who has been living in her house for 35 yrs. Champa questions the lack of support from Shankar to Chaman for completing his law degree. Finally, Sunaina accuses Champa's family of eating omelet at her own wedding, which hurts Champa.

Aman is very afraid to talk to his dad, while Karthik wants him to have a discussion and sort it out. Shankar keeps staring at Karthik throughout the wedding, to the extent that Aman kisses Karthik kisses Aman in front of everyone. This leads to Goggle's wedding being called off. Shankar kicks Karthik out. Goggle is distraught at the wedding being called off and heads to railway tracks to commit suicide. Karthik spots her and stops her. Goggle tells him not to leave his love alone. Meanwhile Shankar wants Aman to wed Kusum. There is a serious fight between Shankar and Chaman. Chaman accuses Shankar of being insensitive towards Goggle and making her blind in one eye during her childhood, due to which she never wed. Shankar Accuses Chaman of watching porn which he says is why Aman turned gay.

Meanwhile Kusum tells Aman that she loves another guy, who steals cars in Meerut. She wants Aman to wed her, so she can continue her affair with the love of her life. Goggle returns home with Karthik. Shankar beats up Karthik with a bamboo pole and he falls unconscious. Aman tells Shankar that he is willing to marry Kusum if they all leave Karthik alone. Karthik wants Aman to stand up for their love. Shankar and Sunaina realize that they themselves are in a loveless marriage and pie for their true loves. But Shankar is afraid of social convention and stays the course.

Now Kusum runs away with her boyfriend on the day of the wedding. Karthik finds her letter first and decides to wear her clothes, covers his face and sits in her place at the Mandap. Shankar recognizes Karthik and stops the wedding. But now Aman stands up for Karthik and decides to marry him in front of everyone. Then, the police arrive, who say that they caught Kusum at the train station with a bag full of family jewels and she told them that Karthik and Aman are gay. So, since being gay is criminal, they are here to arrest them. Chaman argues since the SC ruling is the day after, police can take them then.

The next day SC ruling decriminalizes gay sex. Shankar tearfully tells Aman that he will never understand his love for Karthik, but won't stand in way either.
