When horny teens have sex for the first time then the girl accidentally gets pregnant and gives birth, it's a tragedy. But what if it all happened in just two days and the offspring was a resurrected Mayan monster? That's the whole idea of the film and, spoiler alert, the title does not refer to a verb. But it's fun, with the usual tropes of the horror movies all present, but contextualized in an entertaining way. Is it perfect? Hell no! But I've seen a lot of horror comedies that are not even close to the level of hilarity of this. If it have had just a little bit more budget, the gore would have complemented perfectly the plot. As such, it was just a lot of blood and two horrifying monsters.
If you like tongue in cheek horror, this is a film you should probably watch.

I watched this during it's run at SXSW. This film was surprising and soulful despite its ridiculous premise. It stabs at everything from female sexuality to bro culture and women's relationships. I could see this being the next Gremlins or Critters.

I honestly don't know why this doesn't get more love. I thought the cast were perfect, the cinematography and clever use of direction was superb (a word there I've used maybe 3 times in my life) and the plot plays out fantastically well.
OK sure, the story is actually a bit basic, and the second half completely ruins the pace of the film but, it works for a film that doesn't take itself seriously and the 'monsters' were a bit "meh" but still, this is a film driven by the characters rather than the creatures.
I love it. I also now love Mary Nepi. Mary Call me.
Note: I'll also accept marriage from Halle Berry. Just in case.

I was a little apprehensive when I screened this. Wasn't sure what to think but I was not disappointed at all. It's a fun ride, not meant to be taken seriously at all. The production team embraces the lunacy and the director/actors execute the formula flawlessly. Plenty of laughs to be had here. Even though the premise is outlandish as its meant to be, it still has a coming to age feel about it that's easy to like. I think Mary Nepi is worth following, she's wonderful.

Snatchers may not bring home top scores neither does it try to. It's campy, gory, dumb and fun. The actors are overall great and the lead role played by Mary Nepi does an excellent job! Will most definitely keep an eye out for more of her (hopefully) upcoming roles. I would give it 6.5 but since that's not an option I will settle for 6. Absolutely worth a watch if you like a mix of comedy and gore.

I was excited for this. it sounded different and i've been into the comedy horror genre as of late after seeing a few good ones (satanic panic, life after beth, happy death day). and it started out pretty good.
"how about we just slap you on the kitchen counter and aim you at the vitamix?" lol, that was great.
if it would have kept on with that kind of wit it could have been something special. but rather it elects to go the mayhem-y .. noisy .. screechy .. hyper .. not in the least bit creepy or horror-y route. i was gonna say, "well, PG-13, ya know..." and then i was going to point out that happy death day pulled it off .. but apparently the movie did get an R? HOPEFULLY, that's an error, because that would be sad if they were fine with taking an R and kept on making it in such a juvenile manner.

This is very reminiscent of the 2016 indie film HoneyBee even a scene in the first act with the mom checking in over homework is very similar and the wardrobe with all the characters is totally similar its nuts. This movie is quite campy however, very very campy and it knows that and maintains that tone. Some of the dialogue is stiff and feels scripted, but I like the actors cast anyway and think they chose well when casting them. It's a decent indie campy comedy horror flick!

This movie is HORRIBLE.
Cheaply made. Poorly directed -- never make a movie again, please. Worst acted. A stoopid moronic script that is neither humorous nor insightful. And a bad soundtrack.
Worst movie so far in 2020.
Wish there was a way to get rid of those phony 10 point reviews clowns who are pushing this garbage inserted on IMDB

I hadn't even heard about this 2019 movie titled "Snatchers" from directors Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman prior to stumbling upon it in 2020 and getting to sit down and watch it.
I assumed that it was a horror comedy, given the movie's cover and the brief synopsis.
Turns out that "Snatchers" was actually a surprisingly good and entertaining movie. And it was a horror comedy. But guess what? The movie actually managed to utilize both genres with a perfect blend ration, which made for a very unique and enjoyable movie.
I was genuinely entertained by what directors Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman had come up with in "Snatchers". And while it wasn't exactly innovative in terms of storyline and script, the movie more than made up for this in sheer entertainment value.
The characters in the movie were funny and quite nicely fleshed out on the screen, with lots of quirks, personality and appeal. And they had a great cast ensemble to perform the various roles and characters throughout the movie.
There is a very classic late 1980s horror feel to the movie, and it worked out very well.
The special effects were good and I really liked the creature designs.
I am rating "Snatchers" a solid six out of ten stars, and I will say that if you get the chance to sit down and watch this movie - do it! Quite entertaining and quite enjoyable.

Comedy horror Snatchers' patently silly premise promises to be a lot of fun: after pretty teen Sara (Mary Nepi) has sex for the first time, she finds that she is pregnant with an alien. An enthusiastic cast give it their all and some decent creature effects help immensely, but a hit and miss script means that the film is only a partial success.
It didn't come as much of a surprise to learn that Snatchers started life as a short: it definitely feels as though writers Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman and Scott Yacyshyn struggled to stretch their initial six minute project to feature length, with much of their material failing to have the desired comedic effect. Nepi makes for an appealing lead, and she is given able support by Gabrielle Elyse as Hayley, the schoolfriend who helps Sara with her unusual predicament; it is largely thanks to these two girls that Snatchers is as enjoyable as it is, even with its flaws, their likeable characters sharing a breezy rapport that prevents the film from completely stalling during its more awkward moments.
A nifty alien spider creature gives the film a much-needed lift towards the end, but it is short lived, being dispatched in a disappointingly unspectacular fashion.
5/10. Passable fun, but ultimately fails to fulfil its potential.

Remember when movies were fun and didn't preach present day politics with varying degrees of woke narratives? I didn't mind it at first, but eventually it became the norm. Crafting a story filled with fun likable characters seemed to be a chore and a burden to get through, after peppering social messages throughout.
By simply having a story that stays away from that made this movie refreshing and delightful. Every one of the diverse cast of characters were likeable and fun & the story was simple escapism reminding me of teen comedies of the early 2000s.
Yes the story is silly but it's well acted and all the cast has good chemistry together. I'll be following them all in the future.

"Snatchers" is a hoot alright, I went into it blind as a bat & was happy to find out it's a fun, gory, practical and creative venture into the horrors of teenage pregnancy and... Mexican aliens. And some flaws, of course.
Our main hero, Sara, a status-obsessed and otherwise millennial girl has sex for the first time & wakes up next day pregnant. With an alien. Her boyfriend has brought back a mystery from Mexico, Sara's friend Hayley gets involved and the adventures can start. "Snatchers" has a bunch of amusing and cool albeit not very original characters, but they definitely add to the entertainment & the performances from the yet not very known actors and actresses are quite fine and fun. Most of the characters weren't unsympathetic and that's what matters. The adventures are further filled in with crafty and fast paced action sequences, a satisfying amount of practical effects, practical monsters, good low budget gore & some decent jokes. The story's narrow and straight-forward, their plot point choice behind the alien reminded me of the recent and similar (in certain ways) indie film "Itsy Bitsy" & it's not a very interesting one. Merely a fill in plotline. However, the single most bothering flaw was the pacing - despite the action and the jokes, it starts dragging a bit come the second half & climax or the final confrontation is not as awesome as some of the previous action bits. Compliments on cinematography and editing - thought through and effortful - to make this low budget horror galore as good as it can be.
"Snatchers" strength resides in its characters, comedy and the forever-amazing practical FX carnage, the rest of the elements are not much of a selling point. A lively, millennially sleazy and gory horror comedy for everyone who can dig any of the aforementioned things. My rating: 6/10.

The obvious fake reviews are really the scary part of this movie...
No story, bad acting, horrible camera work and dumb characters.

Very fun horror movie! Obviously influenced by those Amblin movies from the 80's, AIP B movie concepts from the 60's and over the top horror movies like Evil Dead 2. I loved it and watched it twice in one sitting.

Looks like this film is just a niche audience some people seem to love it while others hate it. I was not a fan. I normally like these type of B horror films. The jokes were so bad they used them more then once. The sitting on the toilet gag is not funny the second or 3rd time. Not going to lie but the first time it was a little funny. The concept of the story was original enough and should have made a lot of solid laughs and gore and it did have a lot of gore but the laughs never came. Watch and you may love or watch and you may have to turn it off.
Cute n funny horror comedy about a high school girl who finally gives in to her beau's demands and has sex with him only to awaken the next morning nine months pregnant with a space alien baby. This baby doesn't stay babyish for long, rather it starts killing people. It's best trick is to use humans as its pawn to move around and wreak havoc, since it's only under a foot long. There's more in the offing - she's still pregnant!

It is a stupid movie I wasn't able to watch it completely its not a comedy or even a horror it's kind of children work when they think that a red color effect may make you feel scary.. DON'T watch it.
There is a lot to like or not like about this movie.
The movie is directed with the same sensibility of a lot of Youtube clips. That is, actors talking direct to camera, exaggerated representation of characteristics, quick cuts and lots of dumbish jokes. The reason for this style is of course it comes from the Youtube generation, just like there were people who made movies after getting their break directing movie film clips (the MTV directors) and before that, those whose background was TV (such as Speilberg). But also, this would reduce the budget and other issues considerably, because they can easily use these quick cuts to hide lots of issues, especially special effects.
The style ends up not being cool, but manages to maintain the style throughout the whole movie. But it does create an intimate feel where we are focused mostly on the people inthe movie more than anything else. So that works well. What doesn't work well is that it doesn't really build tension or create mood.
The story is nothing special, but it is built on something deeper. Yes, it is about teenage pregnancy, about girls taking responsibility for their own bodies and the consequence of their actions, it shows men being controlled by sexual drives, but also unpacks their actions, and it looks at how each generation is the same but also different.
The special effects are pretty crappy, but they are not on film for very long, and use techniques to make you feel that you are seeing them more. A technique that let Spielberg fool people into thinking that Jurassic Park's 4 minutes of CGI were longer. At the same time, we, the audience, are in on the joke that the practical effects in this movie are not that good.
Ultimately it understands that they don't have much money or great actors, and instead puts together a fun movie that is worth watching when you realise that it is not meant to be high art.

Awful and unfunny. Not sure what sort of dumb this movie is aimed at. Looks like it initially was set for a series but never got aired (no wonder).
Guess they edited it and made this terrible movie out of it

First, everyone is allowed to have their own opinion so when you read the review by arfdawg-17 remember that. I am not a member of the studio, rather a fan of cheeky small film studio greats, which this is definitely one of. Despite the previous mentioned review I decided to watch it. It was definitely not what he mentioned it was. I found it to be a campy, semi serious, teenage "horror" movie worthy of taking the time to enjoy. Watching it made me think of Evil Aliens, Feast and other similar movies. It was not perfect, but it was a fun ride, well acted for the new cast that starred, with a fresh new take on alien invasions. I watched this entire thing, enjoyed every moment of it and had fun at the multiple new and unexpected moments while the movie poked fun at old tropes.
Arizona teen Sara Steinberg is part of the cool crowd but she used to be best friend with nerdy Hayley. She is desperate to social climb and goes so far as to have sex with Skyler even though he's ghosting her. He doesn't pull out and she quickly gets pregnant. It's an alien fast growing pregnancy.
It's Mean Girls crossed with Alien and Ratatouille. It's irreverent and slightly humorous. There is a lot of blood splatter. Birthing on film is usually a little awkward but it has never been this awkward. It's not really body horror as much as a gore comedy. There is an opportunity for greater satire but this is mostly a gore-comedy. The teen talk feels a bit ten years ago. The lead actresses are fine but the girls are a little old for high school. I understand that the original concept came out as a short four years earlier. It would help if the lead character is more likeable and be more than a self-obsessed teen. This has some fun, some thrills, but it still needs some work.
