Chiaki is a first class musician whose dream is to play among the elites in Europe. He is an infamous perfectionist, not only is he highly critical of himself, but of others as well. But his life change when he meet the piano talent, Nodame.
While I only saw the first 26 episodes (since the dub only covered that much) I did really enjoy it.
I thought Chiaki was a very good and well written protagonist even if he had a few unlikeable moments, Megumi Nodame as well written too.
The music was good and so was the animation.
The English dub was excellent, I hope someday it gets completed or at least makes a comeback.
If you are into anime's about music you might like this.

I wanna give you advice before you decide to watch this movie. Nodame Cantabile - a good story about a young conductor and his girlfriend. You must be ready for a predictable situation when you decide to stop watching after the first 5 episodes. No life, flat characters, archaic computer graphic (really archaic). If you stop right here - you do not lose anything. This musical movie not even close to the level of "K-ON" or "Euphonium" (both just much much better than Nodame) or an outstanding masterpiece of "Your Lie in April" (an absolutely stunning hidden gem). But if you like classical music this movie really worth your time. A lot of Stravinsky, List, Bach, Rachmaninov, Poulenc, Brams and Mozart. This movie - just the new way to your favorite classical composers if you forgot about the atmosphere of mystical musical perfection and what it means in your life. The first season - straight 7.5/10; the second "Nodame in Paris" (has more life and bold plot) - 9/10.
At first I was skeptical about this one. A series featuring classical music students? I went with it simply out of boredom. Boy, was I glad I did.
The characters and humor is excellent. I was laughing out loud in pretty much every episode. The setting is refreshing and you can follow the story without actually knowing anything about music. The story is about a young and unknown musical genius wanting to become a conductor but having given up on his dream until he meets Nodame, an outcast at his conservatory, who completely messes his life and sets him on the right path. It seems cheesy, but the comedy moments are very much hilarious and the story is put together in a very refreshing way.
I'll be honest and go ahead and admit I'd never heard of the sonatas and concerts featured in the series. I think classical music gained one more fan as of today.
In conclusion, a very optimistic anime series and definitely a must-watch.
Animation quality: 8.5 Music: 10 Storyline/Characters: 9.5
