Revolves around an unattractive secretary at a fashion magazine. Based on the Colombian telenovela "Betty La Fea."

Betty loses a book, which is the complete new edition of the magazine and is containing un-retouched photos of a popular actress. She has to find the book before the photos get out to the rest of the press. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina plots to use the snafu to bring Daniel down and Bradford Meade secretively inquires about Fey Sommers' final effects.

Betty uses her Queens connections to lure Vincent Bianchi, a famous photographer, to shoot for the magazine. When Bianchi insists that Betty meet him at a posh restaurant, she gets a makeover. But things don't quite turn out as planned. In the mean time, Bradford tries to get his hands on the car Fey Sommers' died in and Wilhelmina primps for a big date.

After Mode is forced to abandon its big Christmas photo shoot because another magazine has copied the idea, Betty forms an uneasy alliance with Marc and Amanda. The three fear they may have leaked the idea to someone at the rival mag. Meanwhile, Daniel and Wilhelmina reluctantly work together to come up with a new photo spread as Mode's deadline looms, and Betty's nephew, Justin, is oblivious to the turmoil as he spends a day at the magazine for a class project.

It's Halloween and Betty is in for a series of frightful experiences, ranging from showing up dressed for the Mode costume contest . . . only to learn there isn't one, to dealing with her growing attraction to Henry, while a jealous Walter fumes -- and, worst of all, tracking down a watch Daniel left at one of his many girlfriends' apartments (he just can't remember which one). Meanwhile, Daniel pays a visit to his mom in rehab, and Wilhelmina is horrified to learn that she can't fit into a designer gown

Ignacio Suarez is in a desperate situation as his secrets can't stay disclosed. Wilhelmina offers financial help but Betty is hesitating whether to accept it. Daniel meets a fascinating woman in the elevator. He's totally unaware that she's about to get a leading role in the company. Wilhelmina's daughter, Nico, fights to attract her mother's attention.

Sofia Reyes spreads herself in Daniel's office to prove her power. But, instead of paying attention to him Sofia is interested in Betty's opinions and ideas. Fearing that his assistant is not challenged enough by her job, Daniel sends Betty off to write a review about a hotel where she is supposed to stay at over the weekend. Actually, Betty has planned to spend the weekend with Walter in Atlantic City, but now has to cancel this trip. When, Walter pays her a surprise visit at the hotel, Betty is at first very relieved to see him. But, when Betty continues her review observations of the hotel, Walter is not very helpful. Meanwhile, at MODE, Daniel, who is still interested in Sofia, continues to try to get her attention, but Sofia seems to be very resistant to his charms. And, Wilhelmina has a meeting with an important client, but has to dress up for this meeting in very unusual clothes for her and as it turns out she has to do much more to please him.. At home, Hilda still tries to get the money together the family needs for a lawyer. Being very desperate, she asks Santos, who gives her the money, but in exchange wants to see his and Hilda's son Justin.

To his dismay, Daniel must attend his family's Thanksgiving gathering at the Country Club. Meanwhile, Amanda and Marc create their own gathering at Mode and there is also a dinner at Betty's house where Santos, Justin's father, is in attendance. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina also hosts a Thanksgiving dinner as well but her feast doesn't look as good as it does in magazine pictures.

The day after Thanksgiving is no holiday for Betty, who struggles to pull together a last-minute Mode photo shoot with a famous couple and their baby. Meanwhile, Daniel suffers from the after effects of drinking whilst getting over Sofia and ends up spending the holiday with Betty's family and Wilhemina and Marc get 'lost' in Queens!

It's Christmas at Mode as Betty questions her relationship with Walter and her feelings for Henry the accountant. Daniel, on the other hand, is sure of his love for Sofia.

The assistants whip themselves into a frenzy over who will get the swag when Christina announces she is going to clean out the magazine's closet.

Sophia Reyes rules Daniel Meade's heart masterfully, getting him to propose to her and winning favor with his parents. Meanwhile as Betty's new boss, Sophia orders her to replace a lead article in her new feminist magazine by one on the social experiences of her, common ugly bird, working in Daniel's fancy fashion magazine, so she goes back there interviewing everybody. Betty finds out that Sophia not only continues to enjoy the services of Hunter, who is actually exotic dancer, but also hired him to play her fiance. Betty deduces Sophia seduced Daniel maliciously, but is too late to tell him before Sophia announces on national TV she only wanted to prove the validity of her book's 60 days plan to hook up any man. She turns his proposal down, which totally destroys his spirit. Meanhile Texan lover Ted LeBeau renders Wilhelmina romantic enough to turn a cold shoulder to her shady boss, until his wife wants him back as father of their children. Betty's dad Ignacio finds he can't get out of the demands of mean Immigration official Constance Grady, who will get him deported even after 30 years of total integration unless he satisfies her.

Wilhelmina, with Mark as her right hand, plans who's to stay and who'll be kicked out when she once takes over Daniel's position. Daniel returns to the office after 14 days licking wounds. He immediately rehires Betty as assistant. Hilda has success in delivering her father's cakes and chooses to start a new business without telling him about it before taking in orders.

Betty has her job cut out preparing for Mode's huge New York City's Fashion Week event. Marc and Amanda can't delay getting their hands on something everybody desires, Christina wishes to create her mark in the design world and Daniel calls for Hilda to help her sister. Alexis makes her entrance!

Alexis' shocking announcement causes great commotion at both Mode and the Meade home. Betty tries to maintain the peace and order at Mode, however, she is about to face her own personal turmoil when Henry asks her out on a date and Walter tells her he's got a big surprise in store - he has been offered a promotion in Maryland. Meanwhile, Whilhelmina plots her next move to conquer Mode and Justin gets sent home from school for fighting.

Daniel reconnects with New York City's top lawyer Grace Chin, which he once stood up for a date in college. Betty befriends Charlie, an out-of-towner she meets at the Mode cafeteria but later discovers to be Henry's girlfriend.

Daniel keeps secret from Alexis the fact that he is the one who hired Grace to defend their father, something which Wilhelmina uses to bring the siblings apart. Meanwhile, when invited by Henry to Charlie's birthday party, a desperate Betty asks Dr. Farkas, her orthodontist, to be her date. Finally, Amanda catches the eye of an unusual designer who claims that she is his muse.

Betty is in for some wild drama when Marc's mother, Jean Weiner, stops by Mode, given that the latter doesn't seem to know that her son is gay and Betty acts as his girlfriend to help him keep his secret. Meanwhile, Daniel and Alexis are forced to work together when Claire names them both co-editors-in-chief.

Daniel tells Betty to quit stalking him when she tries to protect him from unauthorized biographer Quincy Combs. Later, Daniel is appalled when he is told his latest bedmate was underage - by her mother.

Petra's mother threatens to have Daniel arrested for sex with a minor unless Petra is put on Mode's cover, but Alexis refuses to allow it unless Daniel resigns.

At a medieval-themed restaurant where Mode assistants celebrate Secretaries' -- er, Administrative Assistants' Day, Henry battles to defend Betty's honor (which leaves girlfriend Charlie less than thrilled). Betty convinces Daniel that he has a sex addiction and needs help.

When Ignacio is forced to leave the U.S. to apply for legal immigration, his daughters and Justin accompany him to Mexico, where Betty becomes obsessed with finding her mother's mother. At Mode, Daniel and Alexis fight over using Jordan Dunn as their featured real-world adventurer, as she was once Alex' girlfriend.

The season-end cliffhanger: Justin is thrilled with the boy playing Tony in the school play falls mysteriously ill and he is promoted from understudy. Santos finds trouble when he stops at a store to buy Justin a good-luck present. Alexis finds an unpleasant surprise when she takes their father's car to rush Daniel to the hospital for an overdose.
