It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Except for one particular Tsa agent. Netflix has just released the trailer for Carry-On. Carry-On is an upcoming feature film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam) and starring Taron Egerton (Rocketman, Kingsman: The Golden Circle). Tj Fixman wrote the script’s first draft, with Michael Green responsible for the most recent polish. Dylan Clark (The Batman) is producing. Carry-On is the first production of the overall deal between Netflix and Amblin.
The film also stars Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls and Jason Bateman. The cast will also include Gil Perez- Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson and Josh Brener. The plot logline reads, “A young Tsa agent fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.” Collet-Serra is no stranger to a suspense-filled...

When season three of Star Trek: Picard began, there were some missing faces. Some, we didn't expect to see as their stories wrapped up in season two, like Captain Cristobal Rios [Santiago Carbrera] who chose to remain the past. Isa Briones's Soji character only returned briefly for season two and Briones played an entirely different character who ended up going with Wil Wheaton's Traveler. We're not quite sure what happened to Evan Evagora's Elnor, but Allison Pill's Dr. Agnes Jurati joined with the Borg Queen who became a benevolent form...at least for that queen.
The only original actor, who appeared in the first episode of the first season, alongside Patrick Stewart, to return in season three was Raffi [Michelle Hurd]. Though Jeri Ryan did appear in season one of Picard, she wasn't there from the beginning. Hurd has already spoken out about how it was heartbreaking for her...

Most fans considered Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, to be the most anticipated, ultimate film of the year.
The film shattered multiple box office records, being among the most profitable releases of the year. After finally breaking the $1 billion mark, the movie is currently the second highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Inside Out 2.
When the movie initially came out, it was the most frequently discussed topic here on Fiction Horizon, but it’s been a while since we’ve reported intensively on the movie. The movie will be released on home media later next month, but until then, we can enjoy a newly released deleted scene.
The deleted scene was from the beginning of the movie, just when Deadpool was taken by the Tva and it actually adds more substance to the scene, while, at the same time, hinting that there...

Of the many tableaux that TV fans expected to watch this season, Eugene Levy tearing up while standing in a Glasgow synagogue wearing a tartan-patterned yarmulke was probably not high on the list.
But there he was, seeking out where his mother’s Eastern European refugee family had prayed a century ago, in one of the many insightful and slyly warm moments from The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy.
“He didn’t know exactly what he was going to be walking into,” David Brindley, executive producer of the Apple TV+ series, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“I think it was in him to want to do these [kinds of] things. He just didn’t know it,” adds writer David Reilly.
On Friday ABC announced that Levy and his son and Schitt’s Creek collaborator Dan Levy will co-host the Emmys on Sept. 15. The appearance will provide a capper to an unusual year in which...

After over a year and a half of negotiations, Condé Nast and a union representing hundreds of its workers officially have a first labor contract.
In a ratification vote that took place on Tuesday, 97 percent of Condé Union members voted “yes” on a three-year deal announced by negotiators on May 6. The agreement, which averted a threatened strike from workers at the May 6 Met Gala, boosts wages by $3.6 million in total and converts company permalancers into full-time staff members, according to the union.
Some 550 Condé Nast workers at publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, Bon Appétit, Allure, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Teen Vogue, Self and Condé Nast Entertainment belong to the Condé Union and are covered under the contract. (Staffers at The New Yorker and Wired belong to different unions.)

Contentious contract negotiations between publishing giant Condé Nast and the union representing staffers at many of its magazines spilled over Wednesday when staffers marched to the New York City offices of the company’s CEO.
The action by members of Condé Union comes after it criticized Tuesday’s negotiations over the first contract since the NewsGuild union received certification in 2022. According to the union, during the talks, management threatened to add five additional layoffs to a proposed list and possibly more.
After the company announced layoffs affecting 5% of staffers last November, talks with the union yielded a higher percentage of union members who could be affected. According to the union, the company proposed to lay off 94 union members, about 20% of the union’s membership.
Negotiations are set to resume on Thursday.
A rep for Condé Nast, when contacted by Deadline, did not offer any initial comment on the back and forth with the union.

Aaron Stanford is returning to the MCU, as it was revealed in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer released during the Superbowl on Sunday. He is reprising the role of Pyro which he portrayed in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.
“I’m very excited to be revisiting this role, and couldn’t think of a better place for Pyro’s resurrection than the Deadpool universe,” Standford tells Deadline in a statement.
While details as to the plot of the film have thus far been under wraps, director Shawn Levy told Deadline at last year’s Toronto Film Festival that the goal was for the film to feel “grounded” and “real” — more like “a descendant of Midnight Run, and 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles” than “a descendant of Airplane.”
In a recent appearance on BroBible’s Post-Credit podcast, Matthew Vaughn, the filmmaker behind Marvel titles like X-Men: First Class,...

Union members who work at Condé Nast brands including Vanity Fair, Vogue and GQ will be walking off the job on Tuesday to protest negotiations conduct that they claim violates labor law.
More than 400 Condé Nast Union members at those three publications as well as Allure, Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Self, Teen Vogue and Condé Nast Entertainment are set to strike for 24 hours on Tuesday and hold a rally in front of the company’s offices in New York. The action stems from labor negotiations that have turned sour since Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch announced the company’s intentions to cut 5 percent of its workforce on Nov. 1.
The one-day walkout “is really about the company engaging in regressive bargaining and breaking the law in bargaining by rescinding an offer that they had previously made around layoffs,” the union’s Condé Nast Entertainment unit vice chair Ben Dewey,...

Five Latino filmmakers have come together for the horror anthology Satanic Hispanics, releasing in theaters on Friday, September 14, 2023. Ahead of the release, Bloody Disgusting has been provided an exclusive clip introducing the anthology’s enigmatic storyteller.
In the film, “When police raid a house in El Paso, they find it full of dead Latinos, and only one survivor. He’s known as The Traveler, and when they take him to the station for questioning he tells them those lands are full of magic and talks about the horrors he’s encountered in his long time on this earth, about portals to other worlds, mythical creatures, demons and the undead. Stories about Latin American legends.”
Meet the Traveler, played by Efren Ramirez, in the clip below. Helmed by director Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!), the Traveler is featured in the wraparound that connects four other tales of terror.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the “Poker Face” Season 1 finale, “The Hook,” now streaming on Peacock.
Benjamin Bratt sucked it in like Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn to shoot one standout scene in the Season 1 finale of “Poker Face.” The bit in question featured a poetic recitation of the entire third verse (and one line of the hook) of Blues Traveler’s 1994 earworm “Hook” by Bratt’s character, Cliff Legrand, to Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale while taking her back for judgement by his boss, casino mogul Sterling Frost Sr.
Why does he do this (an act that makes Charlie call him “the fucking worst”)? Only “Poker Face” creator Rian Johnson really knows for sure — but Bratt, Lyonne and “Poker Face” showrunners Nora and Lilla Zuckerman were all on board with the idea once the “Knives Out” and “Glass Onion” filmmaker wrote it into Episode 10, aptly titled “The Hook.

Eugene Levy is going from comedy to reality TV. On his new show, The Reluctant Traveler, Levy visits exotic locations. It’s a new venture for Levy, one he said no to at first.

Why Eugene Levy said no to ‘The Reluctant Traveler’
Perhaps Levy lived up to the title too much. He was so reluctant he didn’t even want to host The Reluctant Traveler, although it wasn’t called that at first. They adapted it to fit his personality but more on that later.

Aaron Stanford, Scotty Tovar, Tim Daly, Lolita Davidovich and Clayne Crawford have joined the cast of “Finestkind.”
As previously announced, the crime thriller also stars Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Foster, Toby Wallace and Jenna Ortega. It is written and directed by Brian Helgeland, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of “L.A. Confidential” and “Mystic River,” as well as the director of “A Knight’s Tale.” “Finestkind” is set to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in late 2022.
The film unfolds in New Bedford, Mass., America’s biggest commercial fishing port, and tells the story of two brothers (Foster and Wallace) from opposite sides of the tracks, who are reunited as adults over one fateful summer. When desperate circumstances force them to strike a deal with a dangerous Boston crime syndicate, a young woman (Ortega) finds herself caught in the middle. This tests the bonds between brothers, friends, and a father (Jones) and his son.

Congratulations to John Mulaney on his return to hosting “Saturday Night Live.” Mulaney has been through a well-documented personal struggle, and we all wish him well. He seems like a good guy. Talented, decent, and definitely not a bigot.
Of course, Mulaney’s not a bigot. If he were, someone would have canceled him. We can see he isn’t a bigot because he doesn’t make jokes about race or gender or gender identity. He just likes to make jokes that are ageist.
Ah, ageism. And that’s not even a real bigotry, like racism, sexism or anti-Semitism because, after all, Collins Dictionary defines bigotry as “the possession or expression of strong, unreasonable prejudices or opinions.” Clearly, therefore, the expression of ageism is reasonable.
In his last “SNL” appearance, for example, Mulaney joked about silencing his grandmother because of her age. He said older people should not be listened...

Louis Hothothot’s feature debut “Four Journeys” will open the 34th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), which also revealed the lineup of the International Competition program, as well as other sections.
“Four Journeys” is a personal film about the destructive influence on a Chinese family of the one-child policy. Hothothot was born as an “illegal” second child, and the authorities punished his parents harshly. The director forces his parents to confront their traumatic past in the film.
A total of 264 titles from more than 80 countries play in the festival, which runs from Nov. 17-28. Artistic director Orwa Nyrabia said the films show us “how artistic freedom, courage and engagement with the world come in many different languages, styles, and viewpoints.” He added: “The documentary field is being confirmed as a future-proof art form that is unapologetically open, diverse and continuously developing.”

This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers.
With most new Star Trek shows, locating the Easter eggs and references takes probably at least two viewings. But, with Lower Decks, you can watch an episode four times and still be missing references and Easter eggs. This is saying something when you also consider that these episodes are half as long as episodes of Discovery or Picard. So, with that in mind, like in the previous episodes, there is almost certainly something we missed in trying to gather all the Easter eggs and references from Lower Decks episode 4, “Moist Vessel.”
From a surprise guest star (Haley Joel Osment) to a heartwarming story about Mariner and Captain Freeman (briefly) becoming allies, this episode was about a lot more than just Easter eggs. But that’s not why you’re here. You came for the Trekkie eggs and you shall have them!

Star Trek: Lower Decks might be a zany animated comedy, but it’s also very keen to respect Trek canon and is effectively a loving homage to The Next Generation. Season 1 of the just-debuted show is set in 2380, which means it takes place one year after Star Trek: Nemesis. This opens the door for various familiar characters to drop by, something which has been teased before, but it also means that some of the characters the creators really want to use they can’t. At least, not without breaking canon.
The Lower Decks creative team took part in a virtual panel via ReedPop’s The Metaverse recently and during this chat, showrunner Mike McMahan revealed two characters he wishes he could get into the series but unfortunately can’t, due to its place in Trek continuity. First of all, he would love to have Star Trek: Enterprise’s T’Pol feature.

This Destiny article contains spoilers.
When the action Mmo first launched in 2014, Destiny prided itself on mystery. Promising a different kind of sci-fi game from the console-defining Fps Halo, Bungie leaned into the “Ancient Aliens” trope as much as it subverted it.
The game’s lore book, known as the Grimoire in the Destiny universe, describes much of the history that leads to events of the games. Hundreds of years before Destiny, a mystical force from outer space, the power-granting Traveler, arrived on Earth, bringing with it a new golden age for humanity, which spread out across the Solar System with its newfound abilities and knowledge. But by the start of the first game, that golden age is over and humanity has suffered an apocalypse. In Destiny, the last remnants of humanity are trying to rebuild its civilization, while fighting off the Traveler’s many enemies, collectively known as the Darkness.

Chris Pratt has spent most of the last decade in the once-unlikely position as one of Hollywood’s biggest breakout movie stars. However, despite a budding big-budget backlog, the A-lister is also planning a return to the medium on which he got his start: television.
This past February, Pratt signed on for a television project titled The Terminal List, on which he’ll serve as headlining star and executive producer. The project, which adapts the conspiracy thriller novel of the same name by Jack Carr, will see Pratt joined behind the camera by Antoine Fuqua, who is set to direct and executive-produce the pilot. The gig facilitates a reunion, due to Pratt’s co-starring role in Fuqua’s 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven. With the key creative ducks in their proverbial row, the project now has a platform.

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 13
There was no way that The Magicians was going to be able to wrap up its five year run without displeasing fans simply by ending, but “Fillory and Further” provided a surprising amount of closure and a happier conclusion than we’re used to with this show. Compared to the death and dismemberment at the end of season one, the turning off of magic in season two, Eliot being possessed in season three, or the death of Quentin in season four, the separation of our group between Earth and the new world is downright hopeful as finales go. Even the loose threads that remain brilliantly allow for fans to draw their own conclusions about where the adventure would go from here.

Excluisve: Disney+ is developing The Biggest Star In Appleton, a half-hour, single-camera comedy from playwright/screenwriter Paul Rudnick, actress Kristin Chenoweth and producer Dan Jinks, I have learned.
Created/written by Rudnick, The Biggest Star In Appleton stars Chenoweth as Carol Dannhauser, a Wisconsin mom, wife and waitress who, while devoted to her family, finds her deepest satisfaction in small town stardom at the local community theater. Her status is threatened when Tara Hubley, a struggling New York chorus girl, moves back home with dreams of her own.
Rudnick, Chenoweth and Jinks executive produce. 20th Century Fox TV, part of Disney TV Studios, is the studio.
The project reunites Chenoweth and Jinks. Chenoweth co-starred in the Jinks-produced ABC series Pushing Daisies, which earned her an Emmy award.
Rudnick and Jinks previously collaborated on dark comedy I Shudder starring Hamish Linklater, which went to pilot at TV Land.

This was a title I just couldn’t resist picking up. Although I love my superhero stuff, my Vertigo stuff, my ‘mature’ graphic novels, there will always be a part of me that is a sucker for any pop culture crossover. When I was a kid I remember loving it on Scooby Doo when guest stars would appear, like Batman, or the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. Logic and a coherent story were generally thrown out the window to be replaced by just a fun mash up. You can understand, then, when I saw Idw had decided to have a little fun by combining two of the biggest pop culture brands around, I had to take a look see. So, let’s take that look see.

"A Traveler," The Steven Yeun led hour of The Twilight Zone reboot, is the story of one man's heroic quest for a slice of pie.

The Twilight Zone Episode 4
When it comes to science fiction, the devil is in the details. Hell, when it comes to any piece of narrative art, the Morningstar remains in the minutiae.
That’s what makes the beginning of The Twilight Zone Episode 4, “A Traveler” so promising. The first quarter of “A Traveler” establishes its tone and world more effectively than any of the other three offerings thus far (save for maybe “The Comedian” and Kumail Nanjiani’s deliberately awful Second Amendment joke).
The first thing “A Traveler” presents to the viewer is the northern lights. Then the camera pans down and we’re in a cop car, speeding through the frozen darkness with Yuka (Marika Sila) and...

Former Motive star Lauren Holly and Benjamin Watson (The L.A. Complex) are set for key recurring roles opposite Kiefer Sutherland on the upcoming third season of Designated Survivor on Netflix.
In season 3 of Designated Survivor, produced by eOne, President Kirkman (Sutherland) will face a political reality… campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.
Holly will play Lynn Harper, the daughter of a renowned Virginia senator, who is married to Mars Harper, Kirkman’s new Chief of Staff. She desperately wants Mars to spend more time at home – a near impossibility for someone in Mars’ position at the White House. Lynn, who was prescribed opiates after a back injury, now struggles with opiate addiction.

Time is not on our side, especially in the era of “peak TV.” Perhaps this is why networks are hopping onto the time travel bandwagon. At this year’s network upfront presentations in May, four of the five broadcast networks plugged shows that revolved around a time travel element at their core.
Taking journeys through the fourth dimension is a concept that has appeared in fiction since the late 19th century, popularized by H.G. Wells’ novel “The Time Machine.” The continued appeal of time travel boils down to wish fulfillment: the desire to visit other eras like a tourist, the yearning to relive or change the past, the curiosity about the future and the ability to squeeze more experiences into our ephemeral lives.
Although Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan disagree on whether time travel will someday be possible based on our apparent lack of visitors from the future, that hasn...

Cinemax just recruited a Marine sniper. Okay, so Prometheus actor Logan Marshall-Green isn’t really a soldier, but he’ll play one on TV. The network chose him to star in their new drama pilot titled Quarry.
The pilot is based upon a Max Allan Collins’ book, which follows a Marine sniper who returns home from Vietnam in 1973 to become disillusioned by the America he finds. It isn’t the one he left behind and it isn’t kind to him. “Combat-hardened and disillusioned, he’s recruited into a network of contract killers and corruption spanning the length of the Mississippi River,” reported THR. I told you it was a drama, and what a drama, but I see exciting thriller elements here as well.

Earlier this year it was rumored that a sequel to 2010's Tron: Legacy hinged on the performance of Disney Xd's Tron: Uprising. It looks like Disney was pleased with the response to the animated prequel series which boasts visuals just as rich as its live-action counterpart. THR reports that Disney is moving forward on the untitled Tron: Legacy sequel and is currently looking to hire Eragon scribe Jesse Wigutow to pen the next draft of the script. Traveler series writer David Digilio drafted the latest script. Disney must be pleased with Wigutow's work on their forthcoming projects, Peter and the Starcatchers; and Parallel.
I'm sure there wasn't much nail biting going on from director Joseph Kosinski and Legacy screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz as they've been quietly developing the third installment of Tron while juggling other projects this past year -- with Kosinski shooting Oblivion and Kitsis and Horowitz...

Grey’s Anatomy is adding a bit of Rex appeal — as in Rex Van De Kamp — with the casting of Desperate Housewives alum Steven Culp in a recurring role.
As reported by our sister site Deadline, Culp will recur during Season 9 of the ABC drama in the role of Dr. Parker, a top surgeon. It is not clear if Parker practices at Seattle Grace or elsewhere, given that some of the residents’ fates were in play at the close of last season.
