Guest star and sci-fi veteran Hugh Marlowe (The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956)) had a strong resemblance to Richard Carlson, who had faced a similar monster in Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) and also starred in a film with a similar title to this episode, It Came from Outer Space (1953). But perhaps the movie title and monster both most identifiable with this episode were from Destination Inner Space (1966), which starred another famous "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" guest star, Gary Merrill.

Goofs
During the opening - the protagonist is seen describing an electronic device (that is turned on) in front of a film crew. A monster comes out of the sea and approaches the group, and the protagonist throws the device under the camera. During following scenes, the device disappears - then reappears.

Sci-Fi & Disaster

Voyage/Sea does the Creature From The Black Lagoon (but with an ugly studio lagoon) as Mr Wells (Hugh Marlow) and Seaview crewman Patterson have a score to settle.

Patterson was only one step above being an extra on the Voyage/Sea series so it is rather surprising to see him take centre stage in this great hour. The actor playing Patterson does an okay job in this episode but I personally would have liked Del Monroe (Kowalski) to do it.

This is a fine story, Wells is a very interesting character, The Thing looks super-cool (almost too tall to fit through Seaview doorways) and The Thing From Inner Space is an all-round winner. An eight out of ten show, two points get taken away as Patterson is not the best crewman for this important role. This hour is also well regarded by the noted Voyage/Sea fan - the late Mike Bailey - a guy who was not always big on the Voyage monster shows.
