      The character of Wally Stone is loosely based on that of Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle, who similarly was a jumbo-sized comedian implicated but never convicted in the death of an actress at a wild Hollywood party. The subsequent scandal and trials abruptly ended Arbuckle's promising career, as it did Wally Stone's. Only two years prior to this episode's broadcast, a film loosely based on Arbuckle's story was released, The Wild Party (1975).

When the phone rings, Starsky's feet are shown next to the phone but they are wearing different sneakers. His sneakers have 3 white stripes & white around the laces, the shoes shown have 4 white stripes & no white around the laces.

    Hollywood History - + Jeff Goldblum!

    Allusions to Fatty Arbuckle and the Rat Pack, plus a young Jeff Goldblum playing what Hutch calls "the next Bergman"? TV doesn't get much better than that!

    This Starsky and Hutch episode seems to have it all... Hollywood with all its insiders and cronyism, ever forgetful history, as well as Hollywood History itself, which cruelly lasts and doesn't last forever.

    Is it tragedy? Sure. That's why we tune in. It's also why people tune out. Or get tuned out. And wind up completely losing their minds.

    Anyway, the only thing really missing from this episode is having a gun-toting Huggy Bear walk on set playing the black cowboy!
