The first question from TV journalists at today’s TCA panel on NBC’s new series, Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, was, well, what’s up with that title?
The series, which made its debut Friday, is based on Jeffrey Deaver’s Bone Collector book series. The first book in that series was also the basis of the 1999 feature film The Bone Collector starring Denzel Washington as quadriplegic Detective Lincoln Rhymes.
The new TV series was first announced as Lincoln, then acquired the lengthy new title, which does not exactly lend itself to headlines and social media. However, the show’s executive producers pointed out that people tended to confuse the name first with the President, second with the car. In addition, Ep Barry O’Brien said the new title leaves the door open to expand the story across multiple platforms. And, “We found that a more dynamic, fuller...

One woman narrowly missed the grips of the Baseline Killer, a notorious Arizona serial killer on the prowl in the mid-2000s. Another man was aboard the American Airlines Flight 63 when Richard Reid, the “shoe bomber,” was apprehended. Then there’s the guy who had a recurring nightmare about an evil babysitter — a dream that could very well be a memory. These are all stories explored in Tenderfoot TV’s and Cadence 13’s podcast Radio Rental, created by Payne Lindsey and hosted by Rainn Wilson under the name Terry Carnation.

It would be an understatement to say that 2018 was a good year for true-crime podcasting — in fact, there’s a bit of a glut in the crime market these days. The soaring popularity of shows like My Favorite Murder, Casefile and Up and Vanished has fired up the imaginations of thousands of podcasting newbies around the world who are, apparently, eager to dissect cold cases. Do we really need another podcast from a group of girlfriends discussing crime scenes while chugging Merlot? Sure, sure we do.

HBO's hit TV series The Deuce examines the lives of sex workers in New York City amid porn's controversial rise to popularity in the 1970s. It's an amazing drama with a phenomenal cast including James Franco, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Carr, and many more (Method Man included). We've been anxiously awaiting season two's debut, and now that it's finally here, we can again dive deep into the show's heated plot points and enjoy the firecracker cast. With a new look on the show, one cast member in particular has been catching our attention.
Abby Parker stepped on the scene in season one as a trailblazing, vivacious college student who becomes Vincent Martino's (Franco) latest romantic interest. In the second season, we've jumped ahead to when Parker is about 26 years old. We think Margarita Levieva plays the character perfectly, so we couldn't help but wonder where else this actress has left her mark.

ABC just premiered its latest twist on the cop procedural format — a pretty fun show starring Jack Cutmore-Scott as Cameron Black, a stage magician who decides to use his talents to help the FBI solve crimes while also investigating a mystery of his own.
A magician doing illusions to solve crime is a fresh twist on the genre, Cutmore-Scott is a charming lead, the supporting cast is fantastic, and the magic seen in the pilot is really cool. But what’s this show titled? “Deception.”
That’s right, “Deception” — not to be mistaken for the 1946 film starring Bette Davis and Claude Reine, the 2008 film starring Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman, the 2013 NBC series about a lady detective investigating her childhood best friend’s murder, or countless other low-budget films over the years. “Deception” is a one-word title so generic and bland that by the end of this sentence, you’ll...

"American Crime," premiering March 5 on ABC, is being touted as an innovative series for spending an entire season focusing on a single murder case, taking a wide-ranging look at the victims, the accused, and their extended families as a way of taking a broader look at the dynamics of a whole community. Of course, this isn't the first time it's been tried, but it could mark the first time that the approach actually works on network TV.
"American Crime" has secured a high-powered cast, including Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman. Nonetheless, after this season is over, the show will move on to a new case next year, with a new cast -- should the show prove a success and earn a renewal.
If that sounds a lot like HBO's "True Detective," that's not an accident. As the old joke goes, imitation is the sincerest form of television. In fact, series...

Over the last 15 years, Gale Harold has had recurring roles on shows as diverse as Defiance, Hellcats, Desperate Housewives, The Secret Circle and Vanished, and well-received turns on stage in Suddenly Last Summer and Orpheus Descending, but of course, it’s his role as the ultimate TV bad boy icon Brian Kinney on Queer As Folk for which he’s most well known.
Brian was the guy you loved to hate … or hated to love, and of all the gay characters ever seen on TV, he may be the most polarizing. But what can’t be argued with is what Gale brought to the role, a combination of charisma, danger, sex appeal, and ultimately … heart.
Today is Gale’s 45th birthday, so let’s take a look back at the career of the man who brought us one of TV’s most unforgettable bastards.

The actor has had recurring or guest starring roles on over two dozen TV series, and a disproportionate number of those appearances have ended with the death of his character. Alejandro was Justin Suarez' protective tough guy dad Santos on Ugly Betty – Shot and killed in a random convenience store robbery. He was Det. Nate Moretta on Southland – Caught in a gang riot and beaten to death.

Another version of "All Quiet on the Western Front" is finally gearing up in the pre-production sector as Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact," "Pay It Forward") signs on to direct the film. This will be the second movie that she's directed for the big screen within the past couple of years, the last one before these two being the 2000 feature "Pay It Forward." She's been working behind the scenes in television, directing several shows including "Luck," "ER" and "Vanished.""All Quiet on the Western Front" is based off the novel written by Erich Maria Remarque. Previously it's been turned into the widely popular 1930 film that ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. Principal photography for this version of "All Quiet" will begin in late 2012.Leder talks more about taking on this film:"Even though the original film was made in 1930 at the advent of the talkies, I was moved...

Quoth the raven, "I'm a hot piece of ass".
If there's one role that's perfect for not exactly pretty actors, it's Edgar Allan Poe. The famed Victorian-era author of the macabre wasn't ugly by any means, but his high brows, odd-shaped head and eye bags along with his distinct personality means it's a role that seems tailor made for a good character actor rather than a handsome leading man.
That's why one bit of casting over the weekend is rather strange. 26-year-old Australian Chris Egan ("Resident Evil: Extinction," "Letters to Juliet") has been cast as the writer in ABC's "Poe", crime procedural which paints Poe as the world’s very first detective who uses unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston.
Egan is a decidedly odd choice for the part. The blond actor, who could've stepped out of an Abercrombie catalogue, got his start as a teenager on...

Sydney, Australia native Christopher Egan cut his chops in a regular role on the long running hit soap opera Home and Away when he was just 16. He moved to La and it wasn.t long before he was hit there too. Egan appeared in the TV series Empire, Pretty/Handsome, and Vanished, and the films Alpha Male, Resident Evil: Extinction and Crush. But he left the TV series Kings when he was offered the leading man role in Letters to Juliet, a romantic tale starring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave. Bonus . they shot the film througout Italy.s most romantic region, Tuscany. Egan was one of a small handful of actors under consideration to star in Mission Impossible...

Brian Geraghty, Josh Peck and Margarita Levieva have signed to star in "ATM," a thriller from the Safran Co. and Gold Circle Films. David Brooks is directing from a script by "Buried" scribe Chris Sparling.
The companies are hoping to evoke Hitchcockian vibes with their tale of three co-workers who make a late-night visit to an Atm and end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.
Geraghty, Peck and Levieva play the co-workers.
A late-September start in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is being eyed.

Christopher Egan has a tough job in his new film "Letters to Juliet": convincing audiences that Amanda Seyfried's Sophie would dump her fiancé, played by international heartthrob Gael García Bernal, for Egan's character, the uptight Brit Charlie. "That was a little intimidating," Egan admits with a laugh. "I was wondering how they would make it convincing." In the film, Sophie is visiting Italy and comes across a wall where women leave letters to the teenage heroine of Shakespeare's tragedy. When she discovers a letter from 50 years ago, she is prompted to write the author, who shows up in the form of Claire, played by Vanessa Redgrave. Claire is accompanied by her stuffy but loving grandson Charlie (Egan), and the trio begins a road trip to find Claire's lost love. Egan began acting at a young age in his native Australia; he and his three brothers appeared in several commercials.

It's changeover time in the television schedules, which means that we have premieres to look forward to and season finales that will tease us for months to come.
In the case of Syfy, the top of the anticipation list includes the second season premiere of Sanctuary and the series premiere of Sgu: Stargate Universe (I've seen it and it's not your father's Stargate, but it's pretty cool). There are also season-ending episodes of Syfy's record breaking hit Warehouse 13 and Eureka and we have video previews of both. Click the Video tabs above to get a taste of what's to come.
Eureka is an offbeat, science fiction comedy-drama that is centered on the residents of a small town in the Pacific Northwest. Shrouded in secrecy, the picturesque hamlet is actually a community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. What they've unwittingly created is a place where anything imaginable can happen…...

With its October premiere date approaching, new info is starting to emerge about Stargate Universe, the Syfy channel's latest Stargate spinoff. Here's the official description of the show:
Sgu follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.
Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.
Yes, it sounds a lot like Star Trek Voyager, but since I liked that series, I'm not complaining (yet).

Warehouse 13, the new Syfy series, is formulaic, but the paranormal-tinged adventure pulls it off with some crafty writing and clever casting.
It's a high-concept premise that borrows from such precursors as Friday the 13th: The Series, The X-Files and Eureka: in the rural reaches of South Dakota is a massive warehouse where all manner of strange and wonderful artifacts are safely stored, and the U.S. Secret Service is tasked with protecting them.
According to the man who head's up Warehouse 13, Artie Nielsen, these artifacts "channel a tangential energy. . . . Somehow, matter that is in here has just enough energy to move other matter."
For Artie, this energy is no different than gravity or magnetism, forces we live with but don't really comprehend.
Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer are two Secret Service agents who find themselves — to their chagrin — assigned to Warehouse 13, where things that can't be explained are locked up.

“Imagination, n. A warehouse of facts, with poet and liar in joint ownership.” - Ambrose Bierce Sci Fi--or Syfy as it will be known then--will next month launch its newest drama, Warehouse 13, which stars Joanne Kelly (Vanished), Eddie McClintock (Bones), and Saul Rubinek (Leverage). As executive producer Jack Kenny describes it, Warehouse 13 is an "action adventure proceduromedy." Kelly plays Myka Bering, an analytical secret service agent whose cool head keeps her above the fray, while McClintock is Agent Pete Lattimer, who's more used to using brawn over brains to get out of scrapes. Both are transferred rather unexpectedly to their new assignment: Warehouse 13, a top-secret government warehouse in the middle of South Dakota that houses arcane and dangerous artifacts. Brainy logic meets brawny cocksure attitude. (Or as McClintock succinctly put it, "That’s why Joanne and I are so like suited for our characters because it’s true.

In July, Sci Fi Channel, which by then will be called by its new moniker, Syfy, debuts a new series, Warehouse 13. Starring Joanne Kelly (Vanished, Jeremiah), Eddie McClintock (Bones, Desperate Housewives), and Saul Rubinek (Frasier, Leverage), the paranormal themed show is set in South Dakota, where the U.S. government maintains a warehouse that houses “strange artifacts, mysterious relics, fantastical objects and supernatural souvenirs”.
Kelly and McClintock are two Secret Service agents who, after saving the life of a president, are transferred to the South Dakota facility, where they meet the caretaker, Artie Nielsen, played by Rubinek.
McClintock’s Pete Lattimer sees the assignment as a reward, but Kelly’s Myka Bering can’t help but feel like she’s being punished. Regardless, their new responsibility is to chase down new objects that belong in the warehouse.

Following on the heels of Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate Atlantis, the latest Stargate series — Stargate Universe, or Sgu — will include the franchise's first lesbian cast member: political attaché Camille Wray, played by veteran Chinese-American actress Ming-Na Wen (pictured, right).
The franchise began with the 1994 feature film Stargate, and has since spawned three live-action series, an animated series (Stargate Infinity), video games (Stargate Worlds), novels, and comics.
The Stargate universe is one in which soldiers and scientists from contemporary Earth interact with alien races possessing far superior technology via a top-secret Stargate (pictured below) that utilizes wormholes to quickly transport people and objects to cosmic locations far away.
Here's the official description of the new series from Sci Fi channel's press release about the series in February:
Edgier and younger in tone, Sgu will take the franchise in a dynamic new direction, appealing to longtime Stargate fans and first-time viewers alike.
