In Fall 2004, the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim was heavily promoting the premiere Squidbillies (2005) on November 7th, 2004. That night, the network announced the premiere of the show. But instead of "Squidbillies", the network aired the pilot for Perfect Hair Forever (2004). Immediately following that was this "special presentation" in which a panel of characters from Adult Swim's shows discussed what they just saw. Viewers thought that it had all been an elaborate prank by Adult Swim and that "Squidbillies" did not really exist. But it was later reported that the script had gone through numerous rewrites and retooling throughout 2004 and the writers became unsure about the "Squidbillies" pilot. Just a few weeks before the premiere date, the pilot was scrapped. The producers decided to air the already completed pilot of "Perfect Hair Forever" in its place. This special was hastily put together just days before the premiere date to fill out the time slot.
There were no opening credits to this special so it did not have an onscreen title, however it did have closing credits to give the cast and crew credit for their work. But Adult Swim referred to it as "Anime Talk Show" in their bumps the following week. So it is known under this title among Adult Swim fans. Online it was given the name "Adult Swim Brain Trust" by Adult Swim's website.
Many people consider this the series finale of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, as the special follows the same format with George Lowe back as Space Ghost, but instead of interviewing celebrities, he interviews characters from other shows.
Dad from The Brak Show makes an appearance at the end when Early is shooting up in the air, he comes falling from the ceiling.
