Horror fans have been looking forward to seeing Mike Flanagan's Before I Wake since the film was teased in trailers back in 2015, but bankruptcy issues at Relativity Media delayed and ultimately brought the movie's release to a halt. Since that time, Flanagan directed two well-received films for Netflix, and the streaming service has now revealed that they will bring Before I Wake out of film purgatory and into the warm glow of the TV screen.
Netflix revealed the exciting Before I Wake news in their full announcement of titles being added to their streaming lineup in January of 2018. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, and Kate Bosworth, Before I Wake will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning Friday, January 5th, marking its first official release in the Us (it was previously released internationally, including in the UK by Netflix).

Say this for 2018: It can’t be any worse than 2017, right? (Spoiler: It totally can.) At least Netflix’s first batch of offerings inspires cautious optimism in the new year, with everything from the entire “Godfather” trilogy, “Marie Antoinette,” five different “Batman” films and five different “Bring It On” movies (did you even know they’d made that many?), “Midnight in Paris,” the complete “Lethal Weapon” collection, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” and “The Truman Show” coming to the streaming service in January.

As for Netflix Originals, there are several: “Before I Wake” and “Rotten” are both available to stream as of January 5, “Somebody Feed Phil” and “The Polka King” premiere a week later, “The Open House” arrives on the 19th, and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” and “Dirty Money” both debut on the 26th.

For the first time since the life-saving transplant last summer, Selena Gomez and her best friend and kidney donor Francia Raisa opened up about the decision to have the procedure and the complications that ensued, along with the tough road to recovery.
During an emotional interview with Today's Savannah Guthrie on Monday morning, the pop superstar explained her myriad of health problems that led to the complicated transplant -- including arthritis and the autoimmune disease lupus -- and as a result, her "kidneys were shutting down." Weeks away from dialysis and in desperate need of a new kidney, Gomez, 25, found herself gravely ill.

Selena Gomez shocked the world when she announced this week that she received a kidney transplant earlier this year, which included a message about the special person behind her recovery. In a series of photos on Instagram, Selena showed off her scar and thanked her friend, actress Francia Raisa, for donating her kidney to her, saying: "There aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis." You might remember seeing the 29-year-old on Selena's Instagram feed before, but you've seen her in other places, too. The Honduran and Mexican actress played Solange Knowles's best friend in Bring It On: All or Nothing and guest starred on The Mindy Project and Dear White People. Over the years, she's kept busy working on movies and TV shows,...

Selena Gomez‘s friend has one less kidney — and a huge heart.
The “Hands to Myself” singer, 25, revealed on Instagram Thursday that she recently stepped out of the spotlight after having a kidney transplant, made necessary by her battle with lupus. She also shared that the donor was a longtime pal, 29-year-old actress Francia Raisa.
Gomez shared a photo of the friends holding hands from their hospital beds.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” said Gomez. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.

After the Met Gala in May 2014, a video showing Solange Knowles beating up Jay Z, her brother-in-law, in an elevator quickly went viral. Solange and Jay were joined in the elevator by Beyoncé and the couple's bodyguard, who had to physically restrain Solange at multiple points during their elevator ride. Since the video had no sound (it was taken from a security camera), there is little insight into what was said and why Beyoncé's sister reacted so violently. Of course, that hasn't stopped just about every person on the Internet from speculating about what went down. Theories range from Solange getting sparked by an argument with Rachel Roy to Solange acting out after Jay dissed her friends and tried to leave for a different afterparty without his wife. We've gathered up the top explanations below and decided which is most likely the closest we'll ever get to the truth.

There are now a staggering four sequels to 2000's feelgood cheerleading hit Bring It On, but are they any good?
This article contains spoilers for the assorted Bring It On movies.

2000’s Bring It On is a very odd duck.
It’s not that the film is particularly innovative about how it spins its narrative – there’s a pretty standard set of beats in place for a sports movie – but traditionally, sports movies don’t tend to have a predominantly female cast (and even something like A League Of Their Own was somewhat led by Tom Hanks). Not only that, it’s a movie with a predominately female cast that isn’t entirely focused on love or romance.

Now here’s some pilot news that I’m completely comfortable reporting, because we Know we’ll see at least the pilot, even if it isn’t picked up to series. We’ve reported periodically about what the TV industry refers to as “backdoor pilots”; they appear as an episode of an existing series, and if they do well, they’re picked up as a spinoff series. Most recently we’ve seen that with The Originals, which was introduced as an episode of The Vampire Diaries.
The CW, who shows more of Our Kind of Shows than any other network, is becoming rather expert at the spinoff/backdoor pilot game, as they are planning another to air next month. Entitled Supernatural: Bloodlines (until recently it was going to be Supernatural: Tribes), it will air as the April 29th episode of Supernatural.

Rihanna is first in line to portray the woman who, basically, invented twerking. Is this the role RiRi was born to play?
This is the story of a sexy dancer, singer and actress known for pushing the envelope and captivating people’s attention with her exotic flare. You might assume we’re talking about Rihanna, and rightfully so, but we’re actually referring to the legendary Josephine Baker, the sexy entertainer who assisted the French Resistance during World War II. And rumor has it, Rihanna will be playing her in a new movie!
There’s currently a play about Josephine being done in London — Josephine And I, written and performed by Cush Jumbo; and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, mother of British actress Emma Thompson – and buzz around London is that it’ll soon be adapted into a movie. Rihanna is reportedly producers’ first choice to play the iconic Ms. Baker.

The Lonely Island released their second song this week, miseducating listeners everywhere about punctuation in a new track entitled "Semicolon."
The rap/comedy trio teamed up with Solange, sister of Beyonce who has grown into a hit artist in her own right with the song "Losing You" (although we'll never forget her star turn in "Bring It On: All or Nothing.") The song uses the style of "hashtag rap," popularized by Drake, in which they describe a noun before naming it at the end of each line, with references to Alf, Ralph Macchio and Steve Urkel.
The narrator/teacher in the song, voiced by Maya Rudolph, is obviously unimpressed. Since this is The Lonely Island, it's a very Nsfw grammar lesson.
The group's new album, "The Wack Album," comes out on June 11.

Hayden Panettiere has always been this adorable little bundle of ... well, of adorableness, but now that she's doing this whole "Nashville" thing and music, which is pretty much the antithesis of the poppy, sell-out stuff like "Scream 4" and "Bring It On: All or Nothing," she's somehow even more likable than she's ever been, because it's like, whoa. Is she doing the whole "true to yourself" thing these days? Because what's nicer than that, besides maybe pie? Here's Hayden talking to Glamour magazine about a "second chance" career: “I don’t look at it as a second chance; I look at it as where I’m supposed to be. Even if I’m not perfect at it, even if my voice takes work, this is where my heart is. People used to ask me, ‘What kind of music do you like?’ I’d say, ‘Country.’ Then they’d go, ‘But you’re from New York.

Tyler Posey, Francia Raisa, and Gina Rodriguez all are 20-something Latino actors on the rise, but they came to acting in their own ways.At what age did each of you get started in the industry?Francia Raisa: I started when I was about 16, 17. I was a regular kid in high school, and I was a backup dancer. A manager was looking for a Latina actress that spoke Spanish, and I was like, “Hi! I speak Spanish!” Shortly after, I just started working right away. I started small with commercials and print. Then a couple months in, when I turned 17, I booked “Bring It On: All or Nothing,” which was my first movie.Gina Rodriguez: I was a salsa dancer for the majority of my life, from like 7 to 17, and did the World Salsa Congresses. I realized that I wanted to continue obviously to be a performer. But.

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen the April 16 episode of "The Voice."
Well, that was rough. We thought this was just a performance night, but Team Christina and Team Blake each lost another member on "The Voice" (Mondays at 8 p.m. Et and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Et on NBC) tonight in a very unexpected instant elimination.
The show kicked off with Carson revealing that both Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton will have to say goodbye to one team member at the end of the two-hour episode. Christina is "really upset right now" and Blake says, "If I knew who to kick for this, I would kick 'em."
Though his team is not in the hot seat this week, Cee Lo Green seems to have had no idea about the instant boot twist until the cameras starting rolling. Adam Levine, however, likes that the coadges have the control.

Is the world ready for a torture porn movie from the director of You Got Served? No, it’s not called You Got Sawed. The title is The Helpers. Sadly, it’s not about African-American maids in Mississippi in the 1960’s getting revenge against their racist white employers by going all Jigsaw on them.
Kristen Quintrall (Wolvezbayne), Denyce Lawton (“House of Payne”), Christopher Jones (You Got Served, JoJo Wright (Bring it On: All or Nothing, and former “The Man Show” juggy dancer Rachel Sterling star in Chris Stokes' (You Got Served, House Party 4) upcoming The Helpers.

This week, We Love Soaps TV had the chance to speak with Francia Raisa and Ken Baunmann of The Secret Life Of The American Teenager about a very big (and secret) plot reveal coming up in the June 6 episode (8/7c on ABC Family). If you don't want to know what happens ahead of time, you should stop reading after the second question!
Francia (Adrian) was born and raised in southern California. After shooting Bring It On: All or Nothing opposite Hayden Panettiere of NBC's Heroes, Francia starred in the Nickelodeon film Shredderman Rules. In 2008, she shot a lead role in Spanish horror film Asd: A Soul Disowned (formerly called Underground) and was the female lead in ABC Family's original movie The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream. You may also have seen her on the big screen as Marly in Fired Up! or on TV as a guest on In Plain Sight.

According to Variety, Hayden Panettiere will play Amanda Knox, the girl accused by Italian authorities of killing her then-roommate in an upcoming Lifetime TV movie. The Amanda Knox Story will air sometime next year.
The real Knox is currently serving a 26-year jail sentence for murder, sexual assault, and obstruction of justice in the death of Meredith Kercher, a British woman who shared an apartment with Knox and two others in Perugia, Italy. The case remains controversial because many believe the media frenzy in Italy led to Knox’s unfair trial. Although definitely an interesting story, I find it odd...

For a network that is purposefully pitched to the lowest common denominator of teenagers, MTV has a pretty impressive history in a lot of different genres of TV shows. Musical programming, animation, sketch comedy, reality TV…well, okay, not so much the first three anymore. Still, any network that can support the blue-collar emotion of 16 & Pregnant alongside the trashy decadence of Jersey Shore deserves at least some kind of acclaim. But one thing has always proven elusive for MTV: good, solid, fictional programming. Example 1: the debut last night of Made: The Movie, which managed to combine every single teen...

Variety reports that pop/R&B recording artist Rihanna has joined the cast of Peter Berg's water based epic action adaptation of the board game Battleship. While Rihanna's music has appeared in movies such as Bring It On: All or Nothing, Are We There Yet?, Sydney White, 21, Wild Child, The House Bunny, Beethoven's Big Break, I Love You Man, The Hangover and Grand Ma Takedown, this marks her feature film acting debut. There are no further details on what part she will have in the film. Previously: Written by the brother writing team Jon and Erich Hoeber (Whiteout), the story unfolds as "a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force." The superior force are aliens from another planet known as The Regents. They come from a world similar to ours, and aren't actually...

I truly set out to make a definitive, objective list of the biggest cult films from the last five years today. However, pinning down a usable definition of "cult film" with a truly workable set of criteria was not just challenging, but nearly impossible. The one constant in definitions for cult films, however, was that they are movies that failed commercially, not just at the box office, but often in DVD sales, yet eventually found a successful second life after their initial release.
The best I could do was to spend way more hours than I expected to researching DVD sales, rental charts, and Netflix rankings from the last five years and combine those with my own anecdotal observations as a movie critic. There's no way to implement an algorithm to determine the standings (and actual figures are often very hard to come by), but in piecing together the evidence...

Other stars have been added to the cast line-up for "Scream 4". After Emma Roberts was announced to take a lead role, Dimension Films has also confirmed that Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin join the film.
The "Heroes" actress was previously said to play a nerdy film geek who is a best friend of Jill, played by Roberts. Culkin, meanwhile, was reported to portray a potential love interest for Jill. Roberts' character itself has been said as one of the film's primary heroines.
Together, the three will fight alongside original major cast members, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox as well as David Arquette, who will reprise their roles as Sidney Prescott, Gale and Dewey respectively.
Wes Craven who directed the previous three "Scream" films is set to return to the helming position when shooting begins in Michigan this July, with the script provided by Kevin Williamson who wrote for "Scream" and...

Since the cheerleader herself couldn’t even save Heroes from its inevitable demise, Hayden Panettiere is back on the market. Career-wise, that is. And it looks like she’s already moving on from the NBC superhero series by booking her first post-Heroes gig: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Panettiere is in talks to star in Wes Craven’s upcoming sequel Scream 4. (The actress would play Neve Campbell’s cousin’s “nerdy film geek” pal; Twilight’s Ashley Greene is in talks to play Campbell’s cousin.)
It seems wise for Panettiere to attach herself to an anticipated franchise...

If "Bring It On," "Bring It On: All or Nothing," "Bring It on Again," "Bring It On: In It to Win It" and "Bring It On Fight to the Finish" have taught us anything, it's that cheerleading is serious stuff. That's a lesson Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka) has to learn the heard way when the college pre-law student loses her scholarship and has to tap into her gymnastics background to take up cheerleading overnight. Ashley Tisdale, Heather Hemmens, Robbie Jones and Matt Barr star in the new CW series "Hellcats," which will air in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour...

Lest you think that product placement is limited to big-budget, big-star movies, be assured that independent filmmakers are not entirely adverse to the idea of exchanging screen time for financial or promotional support. Crooked Arrows, an independent sports film scheduled to begin production this spring, will be exclusively sponsored by Reebok, according to AdAge.com. Reebok will use the film as a springboard to promote its lines of lacrosse equipment and apparel. Owing to the early involvement of Reebok, the filmmakers have been able to "secure [the] bulk of their financing, and also guarantees distribution for a nationwide release of at least 250 theaters in 2011."
The official site for Crooked Arrows makes comparisons to "heroic team sports movies," such as Bad News Bears, Hoosiers, Mighty Ducks, and Miracle. The story follows a mixed-blood Native American who becomes the coach of his reservation's high school lacrosse team, competing against "the better equipped and...

Gossips are going crazy with the first celebrity odd couple report of the year after actress Hayden Panettiere was spotted getting cosy with Russian boxer Wladimir Klitschko in Miami, Florida over the weekend, January 1, 2010. The "Heroes" star was in the city for Lady GaGa's New Year's Eve party at Fontainebleau Miami Beach, and she was spotted poolside with the towering fighter the following morning.
At 33, Klitschko is 13 years older than the actress - and he's well over a foot taller. The odd couple has been photographed together at celebrity parties in the past, prompting reports of a romance. Insiders claim the couple seemed like old pals when they met up in Florida.
Back in August 2009, Hayden Panettiere was romantically linked to Harry Morton, who once had a special thing with Lindsay Lohan. The "Bring It On: All or Nothing" actress was spotted with Harry at Madeo in Los Angeles,...

Remember the spirit of Bring It On?
Ahh, makes me just want to cheer. ("Hey Eliza, you're so fine, you're so fine, you blow my mind. Eliza! Hey, hey Eliza!")
As someone who was never a cheerleader (I was more into organized sports), I could still appreciate the witty dialogue and dance routines of the teen movie. And though I haven't been enticed enough to see the sequels (Bring It On Again, Bring It On: All Or Nothing, Bring It On: In It to Win it, Bring It On Forever and Ever — Ok, I made up that last one), I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Dushku/Dunst/Union flick about competitive cheer squads.
However, I am not so interested in seeing Fired Up, the new film about two dudes who try to get out of football camp and hang out with girls by becoming cheerleaders themselves.

The remaining installments of Earth air from 8-10 p.m. over the next four Sundays.

CinemaNow doing 'Fast' burn
CinemaNow consumers who were planning to race to their local retail outlet today for Universal Pictures' The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift can instead download and burn it to DVD without leaving home.
