Missie (Erin Cottrell) and Willie LaHaye (Logan Bartholomew) set off on their own to start their new homestead. She keeps her pregnancy secret from Willie. Trent, Mason, and Sonny Huff are a gang of bandits. Missie befriends Sonny's little brother Jeff. Willie hires Henry, Fyn Anders, Cookie, and Scottie to start his cattle range. Miriam Red Hawk McClain and Sean McClain are their new neighbors. There are Indians in the area led by Miriam's brother Sharp Claw.
Erin Cottrell does a competent job taking over the role of Missie. She really fits the character. The actors are all solid. It's a fair Hallmark movie. The tension is pretty low for most of the movie. The bandits are broad villains. It's all very gentle and sincere.

"Love's Long Journey" is the best of the various films I've seen from the Janette Oke series of novels. I agree with another reviewer that Erin Cottrell plays a very good Missy. Logan Bartholomew develops more as Willie LaHaye in this film, from his quiet, withdrawn character in "Love's Enduring Promise."
While the faith of this young couple is strong throughout, we see them pick their place to finally settle and build a home two years after they struck out. I wondered about that in the film – it seems like quite a long time. Most of the settlers from the early wagon trains just decided at different points that a place looked good to them and that's where they would put up stakes. That is, those who weren't otherwise forced to stop wherever their money, food and supplies ran out.
But, we understand that they had stopped in Denver for at least a year, during which they worked and set aside money to be able to start a ranch with a small herd. Again, the cinematography and technical qualities of this TV film are very good. And the expanded cast adds a great deal to the story, the action and the interest.
I particularly enjoyed the addition of characters – the bad guys as well as the four hands that Willie hires, and Miriam and the other neighbors Missie meets and befriends. This film keeps moving, with enough character development and action to hold a viewer's attention. It makes it the most enjoyable of the series as well.
A very good family movie, with a look at life in the pioneer settlement of the West. And, with people for whom strong faith was a constant companion. Their love and their faith supported them through many trials and hardships.

The third one in the Hallmark's 'Love Comes Softly' movie series that followed after 'Love Enduring Promise'. Like the usual the story and the characters continued, but the cast changed. Because most of the characters became adult now. This time the narration followed the Missie Davis turning to Missie LaHaye. Of course now Missie is almost a different woman by appearance as she's all grown up.
This film focused only her and her surrounded ones. Still, she's passionate about reading and teaching, but the things are going to change when she meets a little boy in an unexpected circumstance. In the other side, the neighbours dragged into the narration to make a perfect American film, because they are not the ordinary neighbours.
The story was based upon a couple of things, like making the dream comes true and facing thieves in the backdrop of celebration of the Christmas and expecting their first child. In a new place, the newly married LaHaye couples set to begin their life. As Willie's dream coming true, to own a ranch and his wife Missie is pregnant, they comfortably settle down with a bunch of fine men who were hired to work with them. The threats are always a surprise, with one knocking their door, how this couple going to face it and the conclusion of the story is the remaining portion.
"For everything, there is a season... And a time for every matter under heaven."
Sharing the life by helping each other, love was the main theme like the whole movie series supposed to be. The success won't be reached without a struggle, so those were well blended in the beautiful story. It was like effortless performances by everyone, other than riding horses. But anyway, making a movie, even that for the television, is not that simple. The quality was maintained, but there are some minor flaws and technical errors, that are not distracting ones.
Beside their new beginning, the festival season brings the employee and employer much closer. Followed by the most anticipated moment of their lives where the story concludes. Not like the big screen movie, as a television flick and being a second sequel, the movie really justifies. As usual the slow narration was the key to be a satisfactory product. I liked this part as well and so now the fourth film, let's wait and see where it takes us to

The budget is obviously small in this film but the message it sends out is huge. Very sweet and inspiring story of a young family held together by their faith. Makes you want to laugh and cry. Missy & Willie don't have as good as chemistry as the 2nd installment but they do make a very cute couple. I would like to try to keep him warm during the cold prairie winter. :) Also teaches children to be tolerant of other races and also that if you live a good life, good things will happen for you and your family. Make sure you watch the first 2 movies in the series before you watch this one. It probably won't make much sense if you have not see the others.

From first seeing this third movie, I have been intensely disappointed at the replacement of January Jones. She was perfect as the older Missy, whose younger version was definitely not a Miss Goodie-Goodie. Jones matched the younger Missy's personality very well. Her replacement seems larger, not delicate, too smiley and forced perky and is not a good match for Willie. I liked the ranch hands much better than I did Missy. I haven't read the books. The first two movies made me interested in reading them. If I had seen just this one, I don't think I would have that interest. After reading some of the other viewer's comments, I want to read the books to see if they really are better than the movie plots. Little House is an American legend, but those who read Laura's books, know that Michael Landon took considerable dramatic license with his stories as the show progressed.
I used to be a big fan of the Little House on the Prairie. To see Landon Jr. following in the footsteps of his father and creating quality TV programs is amazing. When I saw the previews for the "Love" series, I knew I would be watching. The previews brought me back to watching Michael Landon all over again. I just watched all three of the "Love" series and I believe them to be good family entertainment. When I first began watching "Love Comes Softly", I was reminded of another favorite of mine, "Anne of Green Gables". The way people and families come together to help one another is a powerful thing in both series. Love Comes Softly was definitely my favorite of the three "Love" series, and "Love's Enduring Promise was also excellent. As for "Love's Long Journey" it was good, the only thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact that Missie's family was not in the movie as well. I am glad I continued and watched all three in the series. I plan to read the books and hope to see a fourth added to the series soon with all the cast.

I love all of the movies in the Love Comes Softly series, but this was my favorite yet! Erin Cottrell and Logan Bartholomew do a great job as Missie and Willie, and there is a lot more action and excitement added to the romance of the first two in this series. God's protection along the way in the LaHaye's family's new life is very evident, and the same heart for others that Missie had in Love's Enduring Promise is clearly seen in this movie. I also loved the sweet friendship between Missie and Miriam, and their willingness and eagerness to help each other out in whatever way they can. Well worth seeing, I can't wait for number 4! Great, clean family movie for all!!!

This is the third film in the Love Comes Softly series on Hallmark that are based on the series of books of the same name by Janette Oke. Mattie and Willie LaHaye have struck out on their own, traveling via wagon train to find land to start a cattle ranch on. Once they do, Willie hires a very eclectic group of ranch hands...Cookie, Scottie, Henry and Fyn. They may be eclectic, but they become fiercely loyal and part of the LaHaye family as Missy and Willie strive to settle in and make a real home for both themselves and others. As always Missy and Willie lean into their faith and encourage the same in their friends and everyone they meet.
Beautiful, loving family series that tells a fun pioneering story centered around faith. This is the first film in the series to deviate from a central romantic storyline...it is no less enjoyable (and I say that as a romantic!). I highly recommend this film to fans of the series and anyone looking for family entertainment. There is both a Christian and a Christmas storyline woven into the plot.
I enjoyed seeing Dale Midkiff back as Clark Davis and Logan Bartholomew as Willie LaHaye. It is nice to see the continuation of the story with the same actors.

I loved this movie!!! It is SOOOOO refreshing to see a movie made with family in mind. It was very clean. No course language, no nudity, and no violence. My family loved it. The lead characters (Logan Bartholomew and Erin Cottrell) are very appealing and great to watch. I was glad to see Logan Bartholomew take the role of Willie LaHaye again. It was different not seeing the other Missie, however I enjoyed Erin as Missie much more. I would recommend anyone to watch it along with Love Comes Softly and Love's Enduring Promise. I have always been a fan of Janet Oke and we are eagerly awaiting the next installment and hope you will continue to put these great books on the big screen.
Nice western romance but beware, it's super Christian. There's prayers, religious references, and God is credited for every single thing so if you're not super religious, it's quite annoying. I can usually watch movies that have a little religion in them but I found this one a bit over the top. Apart from that, it's a nice movie to watch. Great scenery too.
I like that it has the sidestory of Missie's relationship with the Indian woman, it teaches kids to be tolerant towards other races and treat everyone as human.

This movie is so wonderful! Words can't describe the splendor! I've seen all of the movies (well, the one's they've made so far) although my favorite was "Love's Enduring Promise," "Love's Long Journey" ran a close second! All of the actors delivered knock-out performances and I was so happy. It's nice to see some wholesome family films come back into play! Logan Bartholomew is a very talented actor and I admire his work tremendously, he brings to the screen a side of "Willie" I don't think anyone else could match, the casting directors chose well! I'm sure his good looks aren't all he has to offer, I have a feeling that we will see him a lot more in the near future! I hope to use some of the qualities I see in him to put into play with furthering my own acting career! Excellent movie, all around! I HIGHLY recommend not only "Love's Long Journey" but "Love Comes Softly" and "Love's Enduring Promise!!!!"

I Loved this movie! it was a great movie and I think that you would enjoy it tremendously, Logan Bartholomew/Willie and Erin Cotrell/Missie does an excellent job in this movie and it's very entertaining to watch and has a western edge of your seat feel to it! and a very good message throughout the movie and at the end, a movie you can actually sit down and watch as a family and not worry about it's content! :) Michael Landon Jr. did a great job! and I'm a big fan of Jannete Oke's books anyway and to see them come alive on screen it's amazing! I sure hope they follow with the books and do more movies, cause there sure are more books to be transformed into movies! :) I recommend this movie highly! and recommend the books in the series as well! As Missie says "for everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven"
I really like this movie because it shows how God can do anything possible to help them to get through pregnancy and farming but I love the beautiful scenes of landscapes. Here the part which I love is Christmas story of Luke that Willie was reading to everyone including Missie. When I watched all of Love Come Softly series, I think that Michael Landon, Jr. was a good director because his father was in Little House on the Prarie so he followed in his father's footstep to create Janette Oke's books into movies. As I looked back on my life for a little bit and I realized that my faith in God is so good to me and how God gave me a gift - my deafness.

i have seen love comes softly MANY times on the hallmark channel and i absolutely loved it. i was extremely upset when my cable provider took the hallmark channel away. i never got the chance to see love's enduring promise and love's long journey. however, recently love's enduring promise and love's long journey were on a local Christian channel and i finally got the chance to see them. I LOVED THEM!!! love's long journey was my favorite. i was a little apprehensive about the new Missie but she did fine...and Logan not only has amazing looks, but also delivers a great performance. he is one of my favorite actors now. this is one of my all time favorite movies and i would recommend them to anyone. cant wait for love's abiding joy coming out in December!!!

Much has already been written about this film. The only thing I have to add is how disappointed I am that the screenplay strayed so very, very far from the book. The movie while wholesome and entertaining could have been much better had it stuck to the original story. The thing I liked least? The three bad guys who were never in the book and how a very pregnant Missy overtook one of them. COME ON! I will not recommend this movie. I'm so sorry. I really am. I tuned in hoping to see Janet Okes story come to life. I am so disappointed. This was my favorite book in the series. I wanted to see the wagon train and all the things that happened along the way. I wanted to see the sod house. I wanted to see more of the town where Willie left Missy to have her baby. And has anyone figured out just how long this girl was pregnant? For like a year at least. Why was cookie portrayed like some stereotypical old black guy? Not how I saw him at all. I am going to the library at church tomorrow and I'm going to have to re-read my beloved stories to get this pooey old movie version out of my head.

I have read all of the Love comes softly books, and I have seen all the movies put out so far. While the movies by them selves can be viewed as good, I am getting more and more annoyed at the gap between book and movie. Not even all of the names are correct!
Many small things, but the main story line in the movie is not even found in the book at all. I can see why they may have done that to make it more interesting...but I think they should have written their own movie for that. I wanted to see the book brought to life, not just an interesting story line. This has the same name as the book, and SOME of the same characters. But after reading the book I was very disappointed when viewing the movie. I have no idea how they think they can go on to the next book when they don't even have what they need from this one to get there! So if you are going out for a good movie, go ahead you will probably enjoy it. If you are going out because you love the books, don't. Unless you are prepared to see one of your favorite story lines mutilated.

This movie is a beautiful story about true love and not just that, but true Christian love. It has meaning and depth to a world where many people never find that love. Sometimes I wish we still lived in that simpler time period, where more people trusted in God. I loved this movie and the two in the series before it. I give it two thumbs up, for this great story of what true Godly love is. I strongly urge every Christian to watch this movie, I literally got chills when the ex-preacher grabs Sonny's hand. We need more Christian movies in the world, so let's support all the Christian movies out there, especially the good ones like this movie.
I didn't really think this series was going to be my type of movie, though I have always liked a good romance. It definitely reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. I'm sure we all know why that is. When I watched this movie the first time, I cried throughout. It is absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend watching the entire series, especially watching them in the proper order. If you can't find a place to rent them, they would be well worth the purchase! I'm just trying to save up money so I can buy them for myself. I wish Little House on the Prairie would come out on DVD as well so I could add it to my collection. Unless it's come out and I just haven't found it yet?

I so enjoyed watching this movie! I saw the first, "love comes softly". Then, I found out from my 1st cousin, John Bartholomew, who lives in Galion, Ohio, that his son, my 2nd cousin, Logan Bartholomew was going to be playing the part of Willie in, "love's enduring promise"!! What a thrill! I also found out that Logan was playing a lead part in the 3rd series of Janette Oke's "love's long journey". That was a great one that my whole family enjoyed. Very well scripted.
Not only is Logan a great looking young fellow, he actually shows signs that he could become a very well-known actor in the future. His horsemanship is great....he gets that from my side of the family!
I can only hope that he will be given the opportunity in the future to star in some really notable films. So far, he's doing wonderfully.
All of us in his immediate family are very proud of him in his accomplishments thus far and only wish him the best. I spoke to Logan the day after "love's long journey" aired and he was just so sweet and humble.
He's working with some great people!!

Preachy, over sentimental television made garbage. Sappy and choppy direction from Michael Landon Jr., the script is laughably bad at times. The score is tedious and mundane. The acting ranges from fair to downright bad. Logan Bartholomew is particularly poor. It does mean well, but good intentions hardly make a good film. The movie's low budget is greatly in evidence. Very little effort was made toward period detail. No originality at all. Been there and seen it many many times before and much better. To make matters worse, it is only available on DVD in a full screen version. Skip this one, and the others in the series for that matter. On the plus side, it's 85 minute length is a blessing. If it was any longer extreme boredom would be added to the list of the film's flaws.
