This series is the sequel to the hit Japanese animation series, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. This gives the Cosmic Era the distinction of being the only AU Gundam Timeline to have more than 1 TV series in it.
In November 2004, Takanori Nishikawa (as T.M. Revolution) made Gundam singles history when his single, "Ignited", hit the #1 spot in Japanese Oricon's daily top 20 singles; a first for the franchise. Up until then, the highest ranking Gundam song was T.M. Revolution's own "Invoke", which had made it to #2. Initial sales data has "ignited" as having sold 108,000 copies. "Ignited" is the First Opening Theme song for the serie, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004) while "Invoke" was the First Opening Theme song for Gundam SEED Destiny's prequel, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002).
Kira Yamato is the only character to wear all three uniforms of the 3 major forces in the series. On Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, he wears the Blue Earth Forces uniform, while in Gundam Seed Destiny, he wears the white ORB uniform, and finally he wears a ZAFT uniform when Lacus Klein takes him to the Freedom and at the end of the series he is seen wearing the White Admiral uniform of ZAFT.
