Broke Iranian box-office record although it was only in theaters for two weeks.
The movie was shown for 2 weeks in Iranian theaters, but was quickly pulled since it was deemed too insolent towards Islamic clerics.
The director had problems getting the movie released as many clerics found the movie offensive. The movie was released during Norooz holidays in Iran, and had a very short, but successful run. Due to its controversial story, the film was taken down after about 3 weeks.
In 2014, Turkish television channel ATV began airing a mini-series based on The Lizard.
The first Iranian film to joke with the mullahs.
