On Fox's Friday comedy "Enlisted," Chris Lowell plays Cpl. Derrick Hill, the middle brother of three -- Geoff Stults plays the oldest brother, Pete; and Parker Young plays baby brother Randy -- all stationed at the same Army base in Florida.
Luckily for show creator Kevin Biegel, both brotherly love and sibling rivalry broke out almost immediately.
"Kevin had this pipe dream of what he wanted the chemistry to look like," Lowell, decked out in full fatigues on the show's Los Angeles set, tells Zap2it. "He created these archetypes that he was hoping these actors would fall into, and then when the three of us first got together, it was just frightening how quickly we just adopted those roles.
"We quickly transcended our lines and became who we were with each other all the time. Being on set is almost like being stuck in a house when you're growing up with your brothers.

Actor Chris Lowell has an expansive list of small screen credits, including “Life As We Know It,” “Private Practice” and the role for which many people still most remember him — Stosh “Piz” Piznarski on the CW’s “Veronica Mars,” a role he’ll reprise later this spring in the big screen spin-off. He also has a starring role in a new movie in theaters now: Maggie Kiley’s striking “Brightest Star,” about a young man’s post-college romantic and occupational wanderings. For ShockYa, Brent Simon had a chance to talk to Lowell one-on-one and in person last week, about “Brightest Star,” twentysomething ennui and what he thinks of how the “Veronica Mars” movie came to [ Read More ]

Casting for pilot episodes is beginning to heat up as Networks scramble to add hot new shows to their fall line up. The CW is one step ahead of the curve as they cast Jessica Lucas as the lead in the pilot for the drama series Cult. The premise for the show is not a far departure from its regular programming which focuses on young adult dramas.
Deadline reports that the project is the brain child of writer Rockne S. O’Bannon who was also the creator of the Australian-American science fiction series Farscape. O’Bannon, in conjunction with Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be working with Warner Bros. TV developing the new project.

Her character teams up with a blogger to investigate the fans who are apparently taking their devotion to the show too far. Chicago – Last month, the famous retailer Macy’s participated in “Fashion’s Night Out” in Chicago, at both their Michigan Avenue and State Street Stores. Among the special events was an appearance by Kelly Osbourne (”The Osbournes,” “Dancing with the Stars”) and Kyle Richards (”The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”).
Photographer Joe Arce captured these Exclusive Portraits of both Kelly Osbourne and Kyle Richards, during their appearance at Macy’s during “Fashion’s Night Out.”
Kelly Osbourne has built quite the media foundation, after most famously appearing on MTV with her father Ozzy and mother Sharon on “The Osbournes” starting in 2002. She has since released a music album (”Shut Up”), a book (”Fierce”), acted on stage and television (”Life As We Know It”) and participated in 2009 on “Dancing with the Stars,” when she placed third overall.

TV used to be the awkward cousin of the movies. Sure, every decade had it’s hit series but up until the twilight years of the 90’s when shows like The Soprano’s and The West Wing helped redefine what could be achieved on a weekly basis from the comfort of your living room, there were relatively few titles that dared try to emulate the high octane thrills, slick visuals, and adult subject matters that your local multiplex was home to.
Thankfully the noughties brought a tsunami of titles that shattered the parameters of what could be achieved via the restrictions of tv, a gradual snowball of triple-a titles that have helped a once snubbed medium for storytelling thrive into arguably the most satisfying and diverse option for visual narratives. To the point where it coaxes actors, actresses, screenwriters and even directors to sojourn from their Hollywood hills and to...

If this weekend’s #moviesinmypants isn’t Twitter trending at its best, I don’t know what is.
Joining the fun was simple. All you had to do was think of a movie title that would sound better with “in my pants” attached to the end. Among the best contributions clogging my feed? Eliza Dushku’s Shall We Dance in My Pants, Wil Wheaton’s Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead in My Pants, and a submission from Modern Family’s co-executive producer Danny Zuker, The Wiz In My Pants.

My Soul to Take
Directed by: Wes Craven
Cast: Max Thieriot, John Magaro, Denzel Whitaker, Emily Meade
Running Time: 1 hr 47 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: October 8, 2010
Plot: A serial killer is thought to have died 16 years ago, and now seven kids who celebrate their 16th birthday on that very day are worried he’s come back to life.
Who’S It For? Do you like train wrecks? And no, not the violent kind that scare the hell out of you. Wes Craven directed and wrote this film. Realizing that is the biggest scare My Soul to Take offers.
Overall
In the town of Riverton everyone knows everyone. There’s the weird kid Bug (Thieriot), the angst ridden sidekick Alex (John Magaro), the blind kid Jerome (Whitaker), the jock Brandon (Nick Lashaway) and the “insanely mean for almost no reason” Fang (Emily Meade). Sure, there’s a handful of...

Critics think horseracing movie wrings a bit too much drama out of an already dramatic story.

This weekend could end in a photo finish at the box office. "Secretariat," "Life as We Know It" and, in a holdover from last week, "The Social Network" will all compete for the top spot, and it's looking close at the moment. All three could rack up similar grosses — somewhere in the $15 million range — and experts are split on which film will be declared the winner.
If "Secretariat," Disney's retelling of the story of the greatest racehorse in history, can connect with families, the warm-hearted movie might well be trotting around the winner's circle Monday. Here's what the critics are saying:

Directed by: Wes Craven
Cast: Max Thieriot, John Magaro, Denzel Whitaker, Zena Grey, Nick Lashaway
Running Time: 1 hr 47 mins

Plot: They thought he was dead. A serial killer returns to terrorize seven children who share the same birthday as the date they thought he died.
Jake’s Take on his interview with Wes Craven, the director of My Soul to Take
Whenever you talk to someone you consider a legend — and in my mind, it’s hard to mention the world of horror without mentioning the name Wes Craven — to outright fail to acknowledge the classics is to take advantage of an incredible opportunity. But, more often than not, many people want to focus on the film they’re promoting and don’t want to talk about the older stuff.
Still, in an interview I consider a real give-and-take of old school vs.

I attended a screening of The Town out at the Edwards Marq*E IMAX theater on Katy Freeway here in Houston on Monday, September 13th. Best part of the whole trip was that Drew, the Warner Bros. rep, came through on his word and gave me a few of the tops (or totems) from Inception. For what's basically nothing more than a few pieces of metal, they're pretty amazing if you've seen the film. Trailers before the film included Due Date and Life As We Know It. Now that September is here the networks are in the final sprint for the new 2010-2011 season. If you watch TV you probably will have seen many of these shows advertised. The new season lineup includes inevitable staples (classic cop and legal dramas) and more peculiar blends (The Shield’s Michael Chiklis in a family series playing a dad with superpowers, for example); some legendary names (Jj Abrams, Shawn Ryan, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg) and many fresh faces. A few shows like The Event (NBC), Running Wilde (Fox), Broadwalk Empire (HBO) or The Walking Dead (AMC) have already created buzz. For now, however, all of them are pure potential, waiting for their chance to conquer primetime. But despite any hopes or expectations, the only thing certain is that, among all of these promising shows, very few will make it to the second season mark.

Last we heard (early last year), Diablo Cody was producing and Geoff Latulippe was scripting the adaptation of S.G. Browne's Breathers: A Zombie's Lament. That script is now in, and it's out to directors. Moreover, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are loosely attached, according to the Hollywood Cog. The movie is a romantic comedy about Andy, a dead man who discovers himself newly re-animated as a mid-aged, decaying zombie who must figure out what it means to live as an Un-dead in a society that denies his kind basic rights.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Matt Damon in Hereafter
Photo: Warner Bros. Warner Bros. has unveiled a new batch of images from their upcoming Fall 2010 slate including looks at Ben Affleck's The Town, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Zack Snyder's owl movie Legend of the Guardians, Life as We Know It, the new Todd Phillips comedy Due Date and Yogi Bear. However, the most guarded film of their upcoming list of films is Clint Eastwood's new drama Hereafter and just above is the first look at Bryce Dallas Howard and Matt Damon in the new flick.
Despite early reports calling it a supernatural film in the vein of The Sixth Sense I was told by Warner Bros. only yesterday they will be referring to it strictly as a drama as the film tells the story of three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways.

It's fall (aka queue up the Oscar movies), so not surprisingly there are more dramas headed into theaters than this past summer. Also on the upswing are 3-D movies — in fact, nearly 1/3 of the fall titles boost the extra dimension, with 100 percent of the Kids/Family movies playing in 3-D.
By the numbers, here's how the season breaks down: fans of action/adventure (7), horror (6), drama (6), and comedy (5) are in luck, with the offerings fewer and farther between for kids (4) and mystery/thriller fans (3). Veteran TV executive/producer Francie Calfo is joining Imagine TV as president after more than 20 years at ABC. Calfo will replace David Nevins who is leaving to become entertainment president at Showtime, replacing Robert Greenblatt. Calfo's deal with 20th TV where Imagine TV is based came after a couple of weeks of negotiations, mostly over financial terms. Calfo most recently served as an ABC Studios-based producer, executive producing several pilots and one series, this summer’s struggling dramedy Scoundrels. Before that she was Evp at ABC, serving as entertainment president Stephen McPherson’s No.2. She segued into that job after spending a year as a producer, partnered with Stu Bloomberg when the two executive produced the short-lived ABC drama series Life As We Know It. Calfo was previously an executive at ABC Studios’ predecessor Touchstone TV where she helped develop Alias and CSI under then-boss McPherson. Calfo first joined...

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration declared ratings for Predators, The Tree of Life and Stone in today's bulletin. While commercials have included the rating for some time now, the MPAA officially announced today that Predators was rated R for "strong creature violence and gore, and pervasive language." Aside from the first, PG-13-rated Alien Vs. Predator, all other Predator movies have been rated R. Predators opens this Friday, July 9, opposite Despicable Me. Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was awarded a PG-13 rating for "some thematic material." Starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, the secretive project has been in the works for quite some time, though a rating indicates it may finally be moving towards being released. The Tree of Life is currently set to be distributed by Apparition, though the relatively new company has yet to set an official date. Robert DeNiro-...

Directed by: Burr Steers
Starring: Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Donal Logue
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: July 30, 2010
Trailer Score: 5/10
My Thoughts: Sorry to all the Footloose fans, but Efron has kicked off his Sunday shoes indefinitely. This trailer is proof that the actor is now taking the straight and narrow. However, it doesn’t seem like the actor’s ready to leave the teen drama behind. Don’t get me wrong, as long as Efron remains good-looking, teens are still bound to come flocking to any of his movies (except Me and orson Welles but to be fair, that was “about an old guy” according to my 11-year old cousin). Still, throw in a tragic circumstance and a smarmy romance, you’ve got yourself a movie. Only way it could sell better is if it was by Nicholas Sparks, but alas, no luck. Still, as new age, touchy...

In the young-cops drama Rookie Blue (airing tonight, 9/8c on ABC), Missy Peregrym plays a wet-behind-the-ears officer trying to make a name for herself on the force. But the 28-year-old actress has already made an impression on TV fans, turning up in such diverse series as Smallville and Life as We Know It. We asked Peregrym for her thoughts on Rookie's Andy McNally and her two other most notable roles, on Heroes and the much-missed Reaper.

Before we get started, some of you have asked in the comments why I don't add some ratings to these bulletins even though a trailer or the official site may list them. Well, that's because these are the official MPAA bulletins as distributed by the MPAA each week so I present them exactly as I receive them so as not to cause for any confusion or mistakes. That's why I didn't have Jonah Hex listed until this week, why Dinner for Schmucks is on today's bulletin and wasn't on last week's and why The Expendables is still not included even though the official site says it has an R rating for strong action and bloody violence throughout and for some language. Basically, it's just a way to remain consistent and accurate. That said, let's take a look at today's ratings...

What do you think of actors uploading their auditions to video websites and being submitted by their agents or managers?John PapsideraLos Angeles; 'Life As We Know It,' 'Inception,' 'Zombieland,' 'The Dark Knight'I guess it depends on how it then gets filtered to the casting director. If your email just becomes a depository for everybody who wants to upload an audition, it will be hugely problematic, given the expansion of managers in the world having increased phone calls to casting directors threefold at least, if not tenfold, over the past five or 10 years. The advent of being so accessible—between instant messaging, email, telephone, texting—it's an avalanche of stuff to get through every day. So if it's unfiltered and anybody can just send it to you, I think it'll be quite difficult. But the advent of global casting, as well as cameras and...

Big Momma's family is growing.
Faizon Love, Emily Rios, Portia Doubleday and Michelle Ang have been cast in Fox's "Big Momma's House" threequel opposite Martin Lawrence.
Brandon T. Jackson ("Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief") and Jessica Lucas ("Cloverfield") already have been cast in the third installment -- now titled "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" -- of Lawrence's FBI-agent-in-drag franchise, which has grossed more than $310 million worldwide. New Regency is financing and producing.
"Big Momma's House 2" director John Whitesell also is helming the new project, from a script by Matthew Fogel and Randi Mayem Singer. David T. Friendly again is producing via his Friendly Films.
In the latest story line, Big Momma (Lawrence) and Charmaine (Jackson) go undercover at an all-girls performing-arts school to unmask a murderer. Love will play Kurtis Kool, a school security guard and former Run-d.M.C. roadie who becomes smitten with Big Momma.

Based on the 1st of four successful illustrated books, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid follows around clever Greg Heffley and his adventures in middle school. He’s a bit of a smart-alec who logs everything into his “its not a diary, its a journal,” complete with the horrors of cooties, bullies, icky girls, and the dreaded “cheese touch,” all of which make a grown-up want to get as far away from middle school as possible. Greg figures that if he can rise above all “the morons” to become popular, it’ll be smooth sailing right through to high school.
After an extensive nine-month search, the producers found the perfect Greg in Zachary Gordon. If you’re a fan of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, you’ll see that his wisecracks are exactly as portrayed in the book. Wary of his big brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick) who plays a prank of...

St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold
Opens: 2010
Cast: Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, David Tennant, Gemma Arterton, Talulah Riley
Director: Oliver Parker, Barnaby Thompson
Summary: A rollercoaster-style treasure hunt for the legendary Fritton’s Gold ensues as the feisty and ever-resourceful schoolgirls of St Trinian’s face their most fearsome establishment rivals yet - the villainous Pomfrey and his sidekicks from the women-hating secret society known as AD1.
Analysis: While it didn't travel much beyond the UK, 2007's reboot of the "St Trinian's" franchise nearly doubled its £7 million production budget in sales in the UK alone - making it one of the top grossing independent British films of the past decade. Reviews were decidedly mixed but generally pretty weak at the time, so the greenlighting of a sequel surprised quite a few.
Despite a critical drubbing, the core audience of young British teenage girls seemed to be satisfied by...

Opens: February 12th 2010
Cast: Tahar Rahim, Niels Arestrup, Adel Bencherif, Hichem Yacoubi, Reda Kateb
Director: Jacques Audiard
Summary: Sent to prison, Malik El Djebena falls under the sway of a group of Corsicans who enforce their rule in the prison. As the 'missions' go by, he toughens himself and wins their confidence but uses his intelligence to discreetly develop his own network.
Analysis: Finally scoring a limited release in the Us in February, Jacques Audiard's violent and hard-edged prison drama won the Grand Prix at Cannes, scored Best Film at the London Film Festival, and is already the hotly tipped favourite to take the Oscar for Best Foreign Film late next month.
Reviews have been stellar around the world for the film which quickly became the most universally admired entry in the often hotly contentious first week of Cannes back in May. From a breakout performance by Tahar Rahim,...

Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".

Case 39
Opens: January 1st 2010
Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley
Director: Christian Alvart
Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.
Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Wow, two Gilmore Girls-related stories in one day. What are the odds? This one's actually less about Gilmore than it is about one of its alums — Melissa McCarthy. The funny lady behind Sookie is guest starring in a January episode of Private Practice, sources confirm to me exclusively. According to a Pp insider, McCarthy's character is pregnant and a patient of midwifery expert Dell (Chris Lowell). McCarthy has kept busy since Gilmore went off the air three years ago. In addition to her regular gig on the now-canceled Samantha Who?, she just wrapped a supporting role in the Katherine Heigl...

Huh? LeBron James? Yeah, you read that right. Today might be the slowest news day I can remember in 2009, I'm still not going to break each of these into their own story. Because how much do you really need to know about romances and fantasy basketball movies? Exactly this much. Not sure we've mentioned Earthbound before; it's the film where Kate Hudson, as a terminally ill patient, falls for her doctor.
