Omarion will star as a charismatic hitman with a conscience in a new original drama series from AMC Networks’ Allblk titled “Wild Rose.”
Created by Deji Laray, the series follows Roosevelt aka “Rose,” who “comes from a family of assassins that also happen to run a nonprofit organization,” according to the logline. “Behind the nonprofit facade is an elite, family-run, hired-gun agency known for taking down high-profile targets.”
Rose’s life turns upside down when his wife and daughter mysteriously walk out of his life and disappear for months. Suspecting foul play, Rose embarks on a journey to uncover the truth, unraveling a “web of secrets that force him to question his identity within his own family.”
“I’m ecstatic that I’m back on your television in a new way,” Omarion said in a statement. “I can’t wait for the Allblk fans and others to see a different side of me.

Perhaps the most overlooked series in the "Star Trek" canon ("Short Treks" and "Very Short Treks" notwithstanding), "Star Trek: The Animated Series" may be accepted as the final two years in the U.S.S. Enterprise's five-year mission. "Star Trek: Tas" debuted on September 8, 1973, four years after the cancelation of "Star Trek," to reunite the original cast and writers to explore Starlfeet's adventures in a 30-minute, animated format. The animation was provided by Filmation, the studio that had previously overseen multiple Batman and Superman cartoons, Archie cartoons, "Gilligan's Island" spinoffs, and which would go on to produce the ultra-popular "Fat Albert," "The Groovy Goolies," "BraveStarr," and "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." Filmation shows were popular among kids, but their animations tended to be stiff and inexpressive. The most prominent feature of "Star Trek: Tas" is how static it looks.
However, the shortened runtime forced the writers of "Tas...

I’m pretty lucky; I have lived through some major pop culture events: the Tim Burton Batman films changed comic book media, the birth of Image comics, seeing how Star Trek The Next Generation birthed a new fandom, etc. But one of the biggest events was seeing how animation wouldin a few short years change forever. The Simpsons is one example of how cartoons started to break new ground. Yet, there was one cartoon that broke the world of American animation. It was gross, it was crass, it was unlike anything we had ever seen. If the Simpsons were an explosion, Ren & Stimpy were the atomic bomb. Today many popular cartoons can all trace their origins back to an insane Chihuahua and a stupid big-nosed cat. It is undeniable Ren & Stimpy changed the face of animation. However, the story behind the show’s genesis is full of rebellion,...

"Star Trek: The Animated Series," originally just called "Star Trek," debuted on September 8, 1973. It will soon be commemorating its 50th anniversary. To celebrate, as announced at this year's San Diego Comic Con, Paramount will be newly animating several "Star Trek" characters and tapping extant "Star Trek" actors to produce several promotional bumpers in the old "Tas" style. Jonathan Frakes will play Commander William Riker in one such bumper, Armin Shimerman will return to play Quark in another, while Doug Jones will appear as Saru from "Star Trek: Discovery."
The announcement was given by "Star Trek" creative consultant Casper Kelly, who previously worked on "Star Trek: Short Treks."
"Star Trek: The Animated Series" famously reunited most of the original series cast (Walter Koenig does not appear) and merrily continued the five-year mission of the U.S.S. Enterprise. James Doohan reprised his role as Scotty, but also took on a lot of the show's supporting characters,...

I vividly remember the first time I saw a Black woman in a toothpaste ad.
There I sat on our shag carpet, my goldfish behind me and a poster of The Fonz just steps away, taped to my bedroom door. I was watching TV and suddenly a beautiful woman in a short natural filled my screen, her teeth perfect and gleaming. I sat, mesmerized, and watched her shine. When her 30 seconds were up, I raced back to tell my mother: “Mamma, there was a Black woman on TV!”
All Gen X kids timed their day around Saturday morning cartoons, Zoom and Kids Are People Too. After, we rode our bikes till the streetlights came on. For Black Gen X, the jumble of Huffies, Big Wheels and metal skates on someone’s front yard let the little kids know it was time for Fat Albert, What’s Happening! or Good Times.

Aaron Carter’s death has been ruled an accident, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
The late singer and younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was found dead on Nov. 5 at the age of 34. At the time, no cause of death was given, but according to an autopsy report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Carter’s manner of death was an accident, caused by drowning and the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax.
The toxicology report found the presence of difluoroethane, a gas commonly used in air spray cleaners for electronic devices that can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled, the report explained. Alprazolam, on the other hand, can have depressant effects, which can cause drowsiness and sedation, according to the coroner.

Since 2018, Laurence Fishburne and his Cinema Gypsy production company have been working with Marvel Animation to create an all-new animated series based on "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos, which was a sequel to Jack Kirby's "Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur" from 1978. Bill Cosby built an entertainment empire by playing a helpful, wholesome, fatherly figure in everything from his landmark “Cosby Show” on NBC to the animated “Fat Albert” series to memorable commercials for Jell-o Pudding Pops.
But industry insiders say there is little chance that the disgraced 83-year-old entertainer may be able to chart a comeback, now that he has won release on a technicality from a prison term after being convicted in 2018 on three counts of aggravated assault against former Temple University employee Andrea Constand. That trial came amid a cascade of allegations that Cosby committed sexual assaults on more than 60 women.

It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.
That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.
In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

Looking to expand opportunities for advertisers beyond pay-tv, AMC Networks has set a slate of original digital series to be produced by the studio arm of its in-house brand agency, The Content Room.
The shows, which connect with marquee properties from across the AMC Networks portfolio, offer another option for media buyers looking for a new route to consumers increasingly less tethered to pay-tv. Individual portfolio meetings with advertisers will start the week of April 5.
A model for the new originals, the company said, is its successful home-grown franchise, Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s, created and hosted by Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo. The show began as a digital short during the initial onset of Covid-19 and is now a Diageo-sponsored series featured across many concurrent platforms. It spans YouTube and Igtv, streams on SVOD, AVOD and free, ad-supported channels, runs on linear TV on the SundanceTV network,...

Every Friday, we’re recommending an older movie that’s available to stream or download and worth seeing again through the lens of our current moment. We’re calling the series “Revisiting Hours” — consider this Rolling Stone’s unofficial film club. This week: Scott Tobias on Jonathan Demme’s 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate.
It never sounded like a good idea to remake The Manchurian Candidate. Majors studios are always looking to plunder the vaults, eager to turn yesterday’s properties into tomorrow’s surefire hits, but John Frankenheimer’s...

Bill Cosby could still find himself locked up for the rest of his life ... but that's not going to stop him from making bank on the show that helped his rise to fame. The comedian and creator of "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" filed paperwork in May -- about a month before his sexual assault trial began -- to renew the rights to the title of his animated series ... and the terms "Fat Albert" and "Hey hey hey" specifically.

To many he was Dr. Cliff Huxtable, America’s dad and neighbor. There was nothing he could do wrong -- or at least seemingly so -- and so it came as a surprise to many (and probably to him), when in 2014, a comedian cracked, “Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby.” Three years later, he’s standing trial for sexual assault.
Broad City star Hannibal Buress’ 2014 comedy set in the veteran entertainer’s hometown of Philadelphia reignited a firestorm of sexual assault allegations that had largely been suppressed thanks to Cosby’s overwhelming star power. During an Entertainment Tonight interview, former supermodel Janice Dickinson accused Cosby of raping her in a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 1982. Cosby’s then-lawyer Marty Singer, high-powered attorney to stars like Kim Kardashian, dismissed her claims as a “lie,” and she responded with a defamation lawsuit.

A look-back at the previous attempts to bring Archie to TV before they got it right with Riverdale...
When Riverdale premieres on the CW on January 26th, it will mark a milestone for Archie Comics - the first time in the company's 75-year history that its characters will truly shine on television. A mix of gleefully ridiculous kitsch with standout performances and some truly smart writing, the series is poised to be 2017's breakout TV hit.
See related Shane Black: a career retrospective Zack Snyder interview: Batman V Superman
That said, it took a while for Archie to get to this point. There have been many attempts to bring Archie and his friends to TV before, but these all suffered for either being shoddily animated (the various 1960s cartoons), misguided (1990's Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again), or just plain, um, weird (the X-Files cash-in Archie's Weird Mysteries...

Following his arrest earlier this week, it seems Bill Cosby is keen to settle his civil lawsuit with accuser Chloe Goins.
In October, Goins accused the “Fat Albert” mastermind of sexually assaulting her at the Playboy Mansion back in 2008 and ever since the La Count District Attorney has been reviewing the case to see if criminal charges should be filed.
According to insiders, Cosby would love to avoid another criminal suit so he’s entertaining the idea of paying Goins off and getting her to sign a confidentiality agreement that would render her unable to testify against him.

24 years ago today, Uncle Jesse took a new step as a dad when his and Becky’s twins were born in a season 5 episode of “Full House.” With two back-to-back episodes penned by series creator Jeff Franklin, the November 12, 1991 hour of “Full House” started with Michelle’s fifth birthday party, featuring a series of flashbacks about the character played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Michelle, afraid of losing her status as the baby of the family since Becky’s pregnant, declares she’s going to stay four years old. But another series of flashbacks changes her mind. When Becky’s babies come earlier than expected, Michelle ends up sharing her birthday with the twins, and she wonders whether that will be a good thing. When Jesse — who has spent the episode dealing with sympathy pains — tells Michelle that this will mean three birthday cakes, she says, “That’s a very good thing.

Say what? Kenan Thompson made an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and dropped a doozy of an anecdote about some odd advice he once received from Bill Cosby. “There are little indicators of things that happened that make you go hmm,” Thompson prefaced his story, adding that he was completely floored by the words that came out of his Fat Albert costar’s mouth back in 2004. “He was like, ‘You know, life is good in the movies or whatever, but you just [...]...

Like many others, Kenan Thompson's warm and fuzzy memories of Bill Cosby were shattered by the dozens of sexual-assault allegations that have emerged against the comedian. But then he thought back to an interaction he'd had with Cosby on the set of 2004's Fat Albert. "That weird stuff just goes in the back of your [mind]," he told Seth Meyers last night. Like Chazz Palminteri, he'd put the pieces together too late.

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

Bill Cosby is making headlines yet again. At Kenan Thompson's stand-up show at the University of Pittsburgh last night, the Saturday Night Live star brought up Cosby and the many rape allegations against the TV star during his routine. "Kenan was on for about an hour and the Bill Cosby stuff happened halfway through, I would say," Jesse Irwin, the social media editor for the Pitt News, tells E! News. "He talked about how, growing up, Bill Cosby had been his hero. He was the first or one of the first clean black comedians. So as a kid, Kenan looked up to him." Some of that admiration changed for Thompson when he and Cosby worked together on the 2004 film Fat Albert. "When he...

Woody Allen used to joke that television was the result of how Los Angeles disposes of its trash, but now he's in the business himself. There's a lot that's fascinating, surprising, confusing, even shocking about the news that he'll be creating a TV series for Amazon. For one thing, he's maintaining the same secrecy about plot and title that he does for his movies. Still, Moviefone can try to answer your burning questions about the Allen project.
Does Allen know how to write for TV? Yes, he does. Surprisingly, no one seems to remember that one of his first jobs in showbiz was as a TV comedy writer for the great 1950s sketch comic Sid Caesar, whose legendary writer's room launched not just Allen's career but also those of Neil Simon, Carl Reiner, and Mel Brooks. He wrote for some other golden-age comedy series as well. Concurrent with his movie career over the last 45 years,...

His sexual assault allegations are well-known the world over, but Bill Cosby isn’t content to sit back and shut up. The “Fat Albert” comedian performed at Budweiser Gardens in Ontario, Canada on Thursday night and during his set he made a joke referencing the claims that decades ago he got girls drunk and drugged them before raping them.
When a woman from the audience got up and began walking out, Bill asked her where she was going. She replied by telling him she was getting a drink and offered to get him one too. But Cosby pointed to his water bottle and then replied, “You have to be careful about drinking around me,” as a sarcastic comment about his accusers.
Later, a man stood up and blurted out, “You’re a rapist,” at which time the crowd booed him and he was escorted out of the venue.

We're coming down to it. We'll probably only have one more "Ask Drew" before the end of 2014, but it's been fun to see how well it's gone so far. I've always tried to stick to a couple of simple broad rules in what kind of material I'll publish about film: no gossip, no numbers, no Oscars. With so many people running his name through the mud, Bill Cosby seems to have found a friend and advocate in Whoopi Goldberg.
In the midst of his multiple sex abuse allegations, the “Fat Albert” mastermind received some much-needed support from “The View” co-host, who defended him during a recent episode of her show.

Whoopi declared, “Perhaps the police might’ve believed it. Or the hospital. Don’t you do a kit when you say someone has raped you?” She continued, “I can speak to settlements. “Quite honestly, look, I’m sorry, having been on both sides of this where people allege that you do something — it doesn’t matter now.

Adding to the growing mountain of allegations, Judy Huth is suing Bill Cosby for supposedly sexually assaulting her back in 1974.
The now-55-year-old woman claims that the “Fat Albert” star molested her at the Playboy Mansion after initially meeting him on a movie set in Los Angeles.
Huth says Bill invited her and a 16-year-old friend to the infamous party palace and at one point took her into a bedroom where they were alone.
Cosby supposedly began to “sexually molest her by attempting to put his hand down her pants, and then taking her hand in his hand and performing a sex act on himself without her consent.”
The lawsuit continues, “This traumatic incident, at such a tender age, has caused psychological damage and mental anguish for her that has caused significant problems throughout her life.”
Ms. Huth is suing for compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages for her “severe and extreme emotional distress.
