Finland, a small town in the middle of nowhere, and a kid who constantly hears sounds of swishing in his head. This is the set up for 'Tuulikaappimaa' in brief.
The narrative is structured around the kid, who, as the story develops, is misplaced from his usual environment to interact with other people of the outback in Finland.
This set up gives an opportunity to examine the characters out of their ordinary life contexts. As the main character remains almost the same, his behaviour provokes the other characters to step out of their conventions in life. As a set up, this background gives an opportunity to explore the characters, but mostly it is a good platform for (dark) humour.
Some of the humour can be really culture related, and reading any text by Jari Tervo, (the writer of the story) would certainly help in understanding the mental landscape of this film.
If you have not, though, watch this film anyway because you are not likely to see anything like this anywhere else.
