In 1968, three people decided to cure infertility. In the 10 years between 1968 and 1978, Robert (Bob) Edwards, a scientist, Patrick Steptoe, an obstetrician, Jean Purdy, an embryologist, worked together, with many others, to do something incredible. Basing themselves in an outbuilding at Oldham general on scraps of money, with nurses volunteering their time, and patients their patience, they worked incessantly on the issue of infertility.
Bob had had a number of breakthroughs working with mice and rabbits, and thought that with Patrick’s innovations with laparoscopes (keyhole surgery), there was a possibility that tubal infertility could be, at least partially, cured.

Movies are empathy machines, as Roger Ebert once wrote. The best films allow us to experience emotions we may not have felt otherwise through a particular character’s story. But some movies conjure emotions that we’re actively seeking out. Happiness. Joy. Love. We call these “feel-good movies.” Everybody has their go-to stable of films they return to over and over again when they need a boost — or maybe just an escape.
If you’re looking to expand your horizons beyond whatever’s streaming on Netflix, or if you just need a pick-me-up Asap, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ve assembled a list of some of the best feel-good movies to watch when you’re feeling down.

Nicolas Cage discusses his decision to pass on a key role in ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Did you know Nicolas Cage was this close to being Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings? But he turned it down. Yup. The same guy who took on National Treasure and Ghost Rider could’ve been slinging a sword in Middle-earth. And the kicker? He’s got no regrets. Zero. Zilch. Nada. “I don’t have any regrets,” he asserted. Classic Cage.
So, what happened? Well, it turns out that life got in the way. Cage had “different things” going on—and spending three years in New Zealand wasn’t something he wanted. He didn’t want to leave his family for that long.
Still, Cage didn’t mope about what could’ve been. “I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member,” he said of The Lord of the Rings.

Nicolas Cage is one of America’s greatest movie stars, and certainly its most distinctive one. His singular genius will be the subject of a retrospective festival at Metrograph, the wonderful independent movie theater in New York City.
IndieWire reports that “Nicolas Uncaged” will present 35mm showings of 10 of Cage’s iconic films: “Adaptation,” “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” “Con Air,” “Moonstruck,” “National Treasure,” “Pig,” “Red Rock West,” “Vampire’s Kiss,” “The Wicker Man,” and “Wild at Heart.”
“Heaped with praise and panegyrics as one of the finest screen actors of his generation, pilloried and parodied as an anything-for-a-paycheck hambone with a weakness for weird wigs and prostheses, Nicolas Cage is a one-man sideshow, a mixture of Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum, Lon Chaney, and a stick of TNT who takes back ‘serious thespian’ prestige whenever he wants to, dives into grindhouse material and Academy Award hopefuls with the same mad enthusiasm,...

Here’s the bad joke of Hollywood Christmas movies. They tend to begin, and end, with a blast of old-school Yuletide cheer. But that’s just a tease. In between, most of them make a point of straying about as far from the Christmas spirit as possible. Instead, they swap in the new American spirit: vulgar, violent, full of fake fun, celebrating its own crassness. To trace the genesis of the anti-Christmas Christmas movie, you would probably have to go back to a couple of movies that are thought of as classics (though not by me), “A Christmas Story” and “Home Alone,” both of them glasses of eggnog spiked with misanthropy.
That said, I’m not sure that a Hollywood movie has ever kicked off the season with less true Christmas spirit than “Red One.” Sure, J.K. Simmons plays Santa Claus (who gets abducted), and Simmons is winning in his crinkly old wise saintliness.

Because “The Sixth Sense, but with the guy from City Slickers” might be a tough sell for a lot of TV viewers, Billy Crystal has been making the promotional rounds in support of his upcoming AppleTV+ horror series Before. So far, critics have been calling the show everything from “brilliant” to “goofy” to “disappointing.”

Last week, Crystal took his Before hype tour to Today, where he chatted about the new show, as well as his thoughts on his portrayal in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night, and also how he may have thoughtlessly given away a piece of priceless movie memorabilia.
Crystal discussed how he’s stolen collected some movie props over the years that are “particularly important” to him, including Miracle Max’s hat from The Princess Bride, his City Slickers chaps and, from Throw Momma From the Train, he kept Danny DeVito (hold for laughter). “I keep him...

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, adapting bigger and bolder storylines to live-action, Sony too is moving ahead with its Spider-Man Universe. Having access to some 900 or so characters related to the fan-favorite web-slinger, the studio is now moving to the small screen to bring yet another story to live-action.
Spider-Man Noir | Credit: Marvel Comics
Starring Nicolas Cage, the studio has been developing the series Spider-Noir for quite some time now, and the first looks of the series were recently leaked. Reprising his role from the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, this time in live-action, fans are excited and waiting eagerly for the series.
Despite Sony’s track record of Marvel flicks (other than the Spider-Verse movies) being, bluntly stating, terrible, the prospect of seeing Cage as the live version of his character does seem alluring. So, without further ado, here is all we know about the latest and upcoming series.

Nicolas Cage’s net worth should’ve come to par with some of the A-listers in Hollywood. At one point in his career, Cage was one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, earning $20 million each for Gone in Sixty Seconds, Windtalkers, and National Treasure. However, his net worth came crashing down when his spending habits got out of his hands.

David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which has been making the festival rounds lately (you can read what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thought of it Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode. So a feature film it is, and Deadline reports that Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film, with their plan being to give it a theatrical release sometime in the spring of 2025.
In The Shrouds, Vincent Cassel, who previously worked with Cronenberg on Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method, takes on the role of Karsh, “an innovative businessman and grieving widower, who builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. With a career spanning over four decades, Nicolas Cage has solidified his status as a great actor in Hollywood. From his early days as a young actor to his current reign, Cage has always been a force to be reckoned with.
But what most fans don’t know is that the actor was once supposed to play one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. He was in fact the first choice to play Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. One can only imagine the level of unpredictability he would have brought to that role.
A missed opportunity: Nicolas Cage as Green Goblin
Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy is considered as one of the best by Marvel fans for a lot of reasons. The screenplay, side characters, setting, etc all make for a memorable part of the movie. However, the most important factor in a superhero movie is its villains.

Looks like Agent Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) will only be in one episode of the upcoming Paramount Plus drama, FBI.
She is wrapping up her time as agent Wallace, who has had a hard time of it since the death of Agent Hobbs at the end of season 6. Her character dealt with survivor’s guilt while the rest of team 26 fed scrambled to find their killer.
As for her character, she hoped that Agent Wallace found a bit more levity and peace after their exit. “I would never want to hurt…
Would never want to see Tiffany change from being front-footed, from having gumption and drive, but to see her with a little bit more ease would be a really, really nice new chapter.” In an interview with Deadline she said, “It was time to look toward new creative endeavors. I’m excited for the future and wish the show all the best.

It’s been over two decades since Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker first teamed up for Rush Hour, the blockbuster buddy cop movie that worked way better without the involvement of Jay Leno.

But after three hit movies, the Rush Hour series sputtered to a halt. Why? Well, for one thing, Tucker decided to take a break from Hollywood. But now he seems totally up for making another sequel, even telling reporters last year that Rush Hour 4 was “close” to happening.
Chan also seems amenable to the idea of continuing the adventures of Detective Inspector Lee. So what’s the problem? Well, it seems like the project comes with some pretty major baggage: director Brett Ratner.
As most of you are probably aware, in 2017, multiple women accused Ratner of abuses ranging from sexual harassment to rape, all of which he denied. This was in addition to his past indiscretions,...

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Seventeen years after we last followed historian, cryptographer, and treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) on an adventure, we might finally be getting a new sequel to the 2004 film National Treasure and its 2007 follow-up National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Although producer Jerry Bruckheimer said two years ago that there was a “really good” script in place and awaiting Cage’s approval, it must not have met his approval, because screenwriter Ted Elliott revealed to the National Treasure Hunt podcast that he has been working on the project for the last year and recently completed his first draft of the script.
During his interview on the podcast, Elliott confirmed that his script is complete and ready for revisions and teased that he has written “familiar faces” into the story beyond the returning main characters of Ben Gates, computer expert and author Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), Dr. Abigail...

With all his foul-mouthed bluster and propensity for extreme violence, it's easy to miss just how lonely the Deadpool character is. In his first two vehicles, Ryan Reynolds' motor-mouthed mercenary spends a lot of time alone and separated from the people he cares about, be it the consequence of his own actions or those who have wronged him (if not both). We tend to spend a lot of time talking about the series' more outrageous moments, like when Wade Wilson gets (consensually!) pegged by his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) or waddles about with a pair of baby legs after being torn in half by Juggernaut. Less attention is showered on the scenes where Wade is too insecure to let Vanessa know he's still alive after a life-saving experiment renders him heavily scarred or trying (and failing) to kill himself while mourning her temporary death.

When Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse first hit the theatres, not many could have anticipated the phenomenon that it would turn out to be. The animated movie went on to create waves, not only for its depiction of Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, but also for the idea it introduced us to – the first depiction of a Marvel multiverse. The multiverse meant that we would have an opportunity to witness multiple versions of Spider-Man over the years. The big new horror movie coming out this weekend is Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe as an FBI agent and Nicolas Cage as the titular serial killer, who we assume has an impressive set of gams.
Cage’s character is apparently so creepy that no images of him have been included in the trailer or any of the film’s marketing. So instead, here’s a clip of him getting so horny that his brain explodes in a Japanese electronics commercial:
But Longlegs is far from the first time that Cage has played a big creep. In fact, you could argue that one of his creepiest roles was that of Nicolas Cage, host of Saturday Night Live.
Cage has only hosted the show once, for the Season 18 premiere back in 1992. He did have previous TV comedy experience, having starred alongside Crispin Glover in the pilot for a teen series called The Best of Times.

The genre of horror is such that it takes inspiration from a legion of sources; while there are classics like The Conjuring and Texas Chainsaw Massacre based on real-life events, a cornucopia of paranormal films – like the ones predicated on the Latin American folklore of La Llorana – are also weaved using cultural, mythical fables and urban legends. And then there’s Nicolas Cage’s Longlegs.

Variety is reporting that Academy Award-nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin; Edge of Tomorrow; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) has joined the cast of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming Spider-Noir series as the show's lead villain.
Further details on his role were unavailable, but it seems probable that he'll be playing Spider-Man Noir's archnemesis Norman Osborn, who in this universe is a ruthless crime lord, with a vast criminal empire that is involved in a variety of illegal enterprises, including, but not limited to, bootlegging, gambling, and human trafficking. His activities ultimately put him in the path of our hero, who, throughout the comic miniseries, is seeking to bring justice to the corrupt and crime-ridden streets of New York.

If there is one character that should go down in history as one of the best of all time, it would have to be Bryan Cranston’s Walter White in Breaking Bad. The complexities existing within this one character can be studied for years, and all are credited to the actor’s performance. His dedication to showcasing the very messed up parts of the once high school teacher turned drug kingpin has helped create one of the best pieces of television in decades.
Walter White’s ending scene from Breaking Bad I High Bridge Entertainment
Considering just how iconic Cranston’s performance was, it is not surprising that he has managed to inspire many to follow similar paths as him. However, many would be surprised to know that Oscar-winner, Nicolas Cage, was heavily inspired by Walter White’s character.

With a filmography that boasts over 100 films and an Oscar win for his heart-wrenching performance in Mike Figgis’ Leaving Las Vegas back in 1995, Nicolas Cage continues to defy the odds and evade any singular Hollywood label. His chameleon-like adaptability has seen him delve into dramas, thrillers, horrors, & fantasy films with a vigor that is uniquely Cage.
Now, as the Ghost Rider actor starts a new adventure in the TV industry, Cage is ready to swing into action with the highly anticipated MGM+ ad Amazon Prime Video’s live-action Spider-Man Noir series—an 8-episode exploration into a tantalizing Pop-art infused world, as he recently disclosed in a chat with The New Yorker.

Anime is more than just a niche in the United States now and Hollywood is taking notice — Netflix especially. The streamer has both produced English-language anime movie/TV adaptations in-house and imported shows made in Japan for international distribution (such as the live-action "Fullmetal Alchemist" trilogy). One can only wonder which anime Netflix will see fit to adapt next — and whether fans should see that as a promise or a threat.
In the meantime, one of Netflix's most recent imports won't convince it to slow down on live-action anime. 2024's "Golden Kamuy," which premiered in Japanese theaters this past January, was added to Netflix on May 19, 2024. The film is an adaptation of a manga by Satoru Noda, which was previously adapted as an anime in 2018. The "Golden Kamuy" manga is complete (it ran for 314 chapters from 2015 to 2022), while the anime still has a fifth and final season on the horizon adapting the manga's last chapters.

And there you were, sitting comfortably in your chair and reading this, thinking that National Treasure, the adventure series starring Nicholas Cage that acted as a blend between Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code (it had the pizzaz of Indiana Jones and the historical nonsenses of The Da Vinci Code all in one), would be excluded from the current revival/reboot craze. But guess what… you thought wrong! The series was never a mainstream hit, but it was quite charming, and many people liked it despite its issues. Now, talks of a third movie have been all around the place for years now, but director Jon Turteltaub has recently confirmed that a third movie is being written.
This comes after some very pessimistic comments made by the series star, Nicholas Cage, who did not give us much hope that he would be returning to the role of Ben Gates,...
