Well, the 2002 Hong Kong romantic comedy can be summarized fairly quickly: as it is a very standard romantic comedy.
But there is more to the movie that just that. Sure, the storyline is fairly straight forward and generic, following the traditional blueprint of how to construct a romantic comedy. But this Hong Kong movie from 2002 manages to go a bit beyond your average romantic comedy.
The storyline is laced with great situational comedy, and the cast in the movie delivers spot on performances, which greatly helps setting the movie aside from many other romantic comedies from the same era. The storyline is actually rather enjoyable in "Love Undercover" (aka "San jaat si mooi").
And the impressive cast ensemble that appear in the movie definitely helps to flesh out the characters in the movie in a very believable manner. The chemistry between lead performers Daniel Wu and Miriam Chin Wah Yeung is really good and believable, and they make a very nice couple on the screen. But "Love Undercover" is more than just those two; it also boasts some nice performances from the likes of Shiu Hung Hui and Yiu-Ming Lee to mention the most recognizable of support casted actors.
If you enjoy romantic comedies and have a liking for the Hong Kong cinema, then this 2002 movie is definitely well-worth sitting down to watch. I was thoroughly entertained by the story and was enjoying the movie as a whole.
My rating of "Love Undercover" lands on a six out of ten stars.
