this is one of the few movies which show a real view of the average urban Mexican experience; low paying jobs , simple pleasures, and even simpler aspirations. the story is one that has been done many times in Mexican cinema . a lower class man falls in love with an upper class woman and goes to great length to win her over not realising that in the process he is loosing his true identity and dearest friends. the story revolves around a "pulqueria" a bar or pub that specialises in dispensing "pulque" a fermented drink traditional to the lower classes of central Mexico. the movie is full of colorful characters from everyday Mexican urban life with no shame and almost with a sense of pride in their under achievements. full of jokes and double ententes known in Mexico as "albures" is a fun lesson into Mexican urban culture while at the same time being heart warming.
