Michael York previously played D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers: Milady's Revenge (1974) and The Return of the Musketeers (1989).
During the role call of the fallen musketeers Charles de Batz is named among the fallen. This was the real name of the man whom d'Artagnan is based on.
Gérard Depardieu previously appeared in The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) as Porthos. He also played the title character in Cyrano de Bergerac (1990). The original play featured an appearance by d'Artagnan. The film The Return of the Musketeers (1989) also featured an appearance by Cyrano.
There are several scenes where Marie Mancini (Clemency Burton-Hill) is playing the violin at a dance/ballet starring the King. Burton-Hill, in addition to being an actress, is a respected violinist, having played since childhood, and has performed at numerous leading concert halls around the world
