Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were on a similar wavelength in the 2000s. After he finished licking his wounds from 1999's "Wild Wild West," Big Willie was hungry to prove his mettle as a dramatic actor. Adapting a bit of a one-for-them-one-for-me mentality, Smith earned his first two acting Oscar nods for "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" in-between nodding his head as Agent J and tearing up the streets of Miami again as Mike Lowrey. Even his tentpoles started to get a little darker and heavier along the way, with the actor anchoring a big screen rendition of Richard Matheson's end-times sci-fi horror tale "I Am Legend" and playing a hard-edged, heavy-drinking superhero in "Hancock."
Spielberg, meanwhile, spent the first decade of the 21st century redefining his work. Really, there was very little he didn't try his hand at during this period, from crafting disquieting, noirish visions of...

Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton existed on opposite ends of the filmmaking spectrum when the latter burst onto the scene in the 1980s. The former was no stranger to tales of terror in the suburbs, having been involved with "Poltergeist" and "Gremlins" by then. (Even "E.T." adapts the stylings of a horror flick in the scene where government agents in spacesuits invade the Taylor family's home in search of the titular alien.) However, the suburbs themselves were cozy and comforting in Spielberg's films; it was usually exterior forces that threatened their domesticity. Burton's movies, on the other hand, depicted the suburbs themselves as being unnerving and baffling. His sympathies laid with outsiders like Pee-wee Herman and Edward Scissorhands, who were content to lead their strange, loner existences until others insisted on intruding upon them.

The prevailing wisdom on Tim Burton is that the filmmaker lost his touch somewhere between 1996's "Mars Attacks!" and 2003's "Big Fish." Especially in the post "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" years, when he really embraced CGI, the general consensus is that Burton became somewhat of a parody of himself. But with "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" it seems the filmmaker has gotten his mojo back, reviving his love of practical effects and the subversive element of his earlier films to deliver a movie that proves the now 66-year-old has still got it.
For me, Burton will forever be one of, if not my favorite filmmaker, simply because his earlier movies set my young imagination alight in a way no other film, TV Show, or any media has. Specifically, his 1992 "Batman" sequel "Batman Returns" remains my most transporting movie experience. The world created by Burton and production designer Bo Welch felt so immersive...

Transformers One has come in below expectations, allowing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to hold on to the top spot at the domestic box office for the third week in a row.

This article contains spoilers for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
Tim Burton is back to the world of the macabre and the weird in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," a sequel to the beloved '80s horror comedy that brings back many of the characters from the original film, while leaving behind some others. Out of every character not to return, though, there is only one who meets a rather graphic ending — Charles Deetz. Granted, there is a very good reason why Jeffrey Jones isn't back to portray Charles, and even if we could have done without showing his face via a holographic photo, the manner in which Charles dies is pure Burton.
As we learn during a spectacular stop-motion flashback, Charles died when he was on a bird-watching vacation. His plane went down in the ocean, but he luckily survived — only to get immediately eaten by a shark that bit off the upper half of his body.

The Juice has well and truly been set loose at the box office, as Tim Burton's long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel claims the No. 1 spot from Deadpool and Wolverine with a record-breaking domestic debut.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice scared up an estimated $110 million in North America ($145M worldwide) to give it the 3rd biggest opening of 2024; 2nd biggest opening ever for Tim Burton; 2nd best September opening, and 2nd biggest opening ever for a horror film, surpassing Warner Bros.' It: Chapter 2.
This also means that the sequel has already surpassed the original movie's entire global gross ($74 million) after a single weekend in theaters.
Getting back to Marvel Studios' massively successful first foray into R-rated territory, and it looks like the movie is set to premiere on Digital platforms early next month (we're still waiting on an official announcement).

Are you a Hot Topic child who used to walk around the local mall in A Nightmare Before Christmas merch? Did you fancy yourself a topiarist after marveling at the spectacular shrubbery of Edward Scissorhands? Would you fight someone who says Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns are lesser than Nolan’s Batman films? It’s difficult to choose a favorite Tim Burton movie, with so many of the freaky filmmaker’s classics remaining a part of the pop culture zeitgeist. Stop-motion enthusiasts love Nightmare and Frankenweenie, while sentimental types love a good cry at the end of Big Fish. Mars Attacks! is making a comeback via Spirit Halloween stores, with standees of aliens and their weaponry up for sale. Tommy Harper is used to getting phone calls featuring unusual requests. His phone might ring and it’s Tom Cruise and Joseph Kosinski asking him to figure out how to film Top Gun: Maverick in real jets. Or J.J. Abrams is on the line, asking how to bring the massive crew of a Star Wars movie to a remote island in Ireland. Maybe it’s Tim Burton, wanting help choreographing an off-kilter musical number for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is now in theaters, and, as fans hoped it would, the movie does explain what happened to the original film's protagonists.
Though Michael Keaton's titular Ghost with the Most was obviously the main attraction in Tim Burton's horror comedy classic, the main characters were actually Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis).
The recently married couple are killed in a car accident in the first few minutes of the movie, and their displaced spirits wind up summoning Betelgeuse in an effort to drive the new owners of their house (Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz and her family) away. Things don't exactly go according to plan, however.
Ultimately, Betelgeuse is banished, and the Deetzs and Maitlands agree to share the house.
Keaton, Ryder and Catherine O'Hara (who plays Lydia's mother) reprise their roles for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but Baldwin and Davis don't appear.

Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel to his cult classic, Beetlejuice, opens this weekend, and the movie is expected to have a ghoulishly good debut at the box office.
According to the latest estimates (via Deadline), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice should take in around $145 million worldwide (Warner Bros. is anticipating an $80M domestic bow). If this proves to be accurate, the sequel will debut with more than the lifetime gross of the original 1988 movie, which finished its run at $74.6M, unadjusted for inflation.
The chaotic horror comedy should also claim the spot from Marvel Studios' Deadpool and Wolverine, which - despite briefly being dethroned by Alien: Romulus - has remained at #1 for six weekends it's been in theaters.

It's been more than three decades in the making, but director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton have finally reunited for a "Beetlejuice" sequel. Officially (and cleverly) titled "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," the Oscar-nominated actor is back in the black and white as the undead villain, with Burton back in the director's chair, just as it was in 1988. While much has changed, such as the addition of newcomers like "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega, the title character at the heart of the film is very much his old self. Much of that has to do with Burton and Keaton agreeing on what defines Beetlejuice to his core.

Tim Burton has always made films about "himself" in the sense that his movies are all about odd eccentrics or outsiders that he clearly relates to. As he's gotten older, however, his best movies have also not-so-coincidentally touched upon what happens to people like that as they age. "Big Fish," for example, is about a whimsical storyteller whose once-adoring son, having grown up hearing his dad's tall tales over and over, now finds him more infuriating than charming. Similarly, Burton's Margaret Keane biopic "Big Eyes" is about a quirky artist who, having long since settled down and started a family, comes to realize she's no longer content letting her husband take the credit for her work like when she was younger.
That bodes well for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," a legacy sequel that Burton himself would tell you was heavily informed by his own real-life experiences in the nearly 40 years since his original 1988 classic hit theaters.

The first drops us in on a family reunion between Delia Deetz (Catherine O'Hara), daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) and her kid Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who have returned to Winter River after the death of patriarch Charles (played by Jeffrey Jones in the original movie).
The next clip spotlights the Ghost with the Most himself (Michael Keaton), who is clearly still carrying a torch for Lydia - who was only 17 when they met.
This has always been one of the creepier plot points in the first movie, but anyone under the assumption that the lecherous Bio-Exorcist will be "evolving" with the times might be in for a bit of a shock.
"My whole career, there have always been people, like, 'This is too dark, which I never saw my films as dark,...

"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" is a movie decades in the making, with the original being a rare highly successful '80s movie that didn't immediately span a sequel — even if it did actually get a follow-up of sorts in the form of a cartoon series. It's not like Burton is aversed to making sequels, as he did make two "Batman" movies. Still, it's taken 36 years, but at least now we are finally getting a new "Beetlejuice," with cast both new and old — through some convincing.
As obvious as the sequel seems, it actually took a lot of effort and time for it to be made, and it wasn't until the success of "Wednesday" on Netflix that Burton's interest in a sequel became reinvigorated. During a recent press day attended by /Film's Jacob Hall, Tim Burton answered questions from a group of journalists, and reflected on the decades wait before making "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...

In his 40-year career, Tim Burton has carved out a niche for himself making quirky, eccentric films that are often box office bonanzas. Let’s take a look back at all 19 of his films, ranked from worst to best, in our photo gallery.
Burton began his career as an animator for Walt Disney Studios before making the short films “Vincent” (1982) and “Frankenweenie” (1984). He directed his first feature when he was just 26 years old: “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” (1985). Burton followed that success with the macabre comedy “Beetlejuice” (1988) before entering the world of blockbusters with the dark, ominous superhero adventure “Batman” (1989).
From the beginning, Burton displayed a talent for crafting visually stunning worlds unlike any seen before. Four of his films, in fact — “Batman,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “Alice in Wonderland” — have won Oscars for their art direction.
Burton often returned to his animation roots, first as a producer on “The Nightmare Before Christmas...

After Sam Raimi’s darkly playful 2009 fright fest “Drag Me to Hell” came out, star Alison Lohman said she faced a question. “It was kind of like: Do you want to be a household name?” she remembers in a recent phone call.
She didn’t. “I don’t think I really really wanted that, to be in the public eye,” she said.
If you had told film fans in the 2000s that Lohman would have essentially vanished from the big screen in 2024, they might have a hard time believing you. The decade offered Lohman an incredible run, starting with her breakout role in 2002’s “White Oleander,” Peter Kominsky’s melodrama, where she played the daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer. She played the love of Ewan McGregor’s life in Tim Burton’s “Big Fish,...

As production continues on the second season of Peacemaker, we have word on two new additions to the cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad spin-off series.
THR reports that Picard's Sol Rodriguez and The Office actor David Denman have both signed on in supporting roles, and at least one of them will play an established DC Comics character.
While details on Denman's role are being kept under wraps, Rodriguez has been cast as Sasha Bordeaux, who made her debut as a Batman ally back in 2000’s Detective Comics No. 751.
First introduced as a young martial artist who is hired as Bruce Wayne's bodyguard by Lucius Fox, The Dark Knight actually trained Bordeaux as his new apprentice before she was framed for the murder of Vesper Fairchild and sent to prison. She later joined forces with the government agency known as Checkmate.

It is a frequent occurrence in the entertainment world, where the director or actor initially associated with a project is not the same as those involved in the final product. And so it happened with the critically acclaimed film of Tim Burton, Big Fish (2003), which had Steven Spielberg originally slated to direct the film.
Steven Spielberg [PC: Gage Skidmore | Wikimedia Commons]But the Jaws director was forced to opt out due to his commitment to other projects, making Burton take over the reins. Yet, Spielberg does not regret leaving the film and even agrees that he made the right call.

Ten years after the release of his Def Jam debut, the Hell Can Wait EP, Vince Staples occupies an ambiguous middle-ground, stuck between platinum-certified arena status and the ephemeral virality that defines too much of the mainstream rap industry. "I myself am strange and unusual," Winona Ryder's goth teen Lydia Deetz proclaims in "Beetlejuice," although she could've just as easily been talking about the movie around her. Tim Burton's supernatural comedy was lightning in a bottle when it landed in 1988, a zealously idiosyncratic (and horny!) affair and a welcome remedy to the decade's consumerist mentality. Now, 36 years later (*wipes brow*), a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally making its way to the big screen at a time when franchises and IPs may be loosening their grip just a little on the media landscape. The question is, will "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- as the film is now officially titled -- be part of the problem or will it mark the start of a long, long-awaited creative renaissance for Burton the director?

The photos show Michael Keaton back in character in the titular role; returning stars Catherine O’Hara as Delia and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz; and Beetlejuice newcomers Jenna Ortega as Astrid and Justin Theroux as Rory.
The 2024 sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 Oscar-winning comedy also stars Monica Bellucci (Spectre), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things).
“Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened,” reads Warner Bros’ synopsis.

Take a look at award-winning pop singer, actress Miley Cyrus, posing for the March 2024 issue of British “Vogue” magazine, photographed by Ned Rogers, including additional images from her June 2023 shoot:
Cyrus made her acting debut in three episodes of the Toronto-shot TV series "Doc" (2002) with her father Billy Ray Cyrus, before appearing in a minor role for the film "Big Fish"(2003).
In 2006, she was established as a teen idol with the success of the "Hannah Montana" franchise, a former Disney Channel sitcom in which she portrayed the role of 'Miley Stewart' and 'Hannah Montana'.
Cyrus later recorded numerous songs for the soundtrack of the first season, signing a deal with Hollywood Records and releasing the album "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus", selling over three million copies in the US.

Columbus indie pop band Snarls have returned with the new single “Heavy Drinker.”
The track harks back to the band’s previous work — a deliciously fun recipe of harmonies, party stomper hooks, and cheeky guitar distortion. “It encapsulates everything we love about our band with a fresh take,” Snarls said. The band is comprised of guitarist Chlo White, bassist Riley Hall, and guitarist Mick Martinez.
“Heavy Drinker” follows the single “Big Fish.” Both cuts appear on their upcoming album, With Love, out May 3. It marks the band’s second album after their 2020 debut Burst.

"It was that night I discovered that most things you consider evil or wicked are simply lonely, and lacking in the social niceties." The legendary Stan Winston and his team at Stan Winston Studio were once again hired by Tim Burton to create a handful of special effects for Big Fish (we also posted their video on creating The Penguin for Burton's Batman Returns). As everyone knows, Winston is one of the best in the business, and his work is always exciting to see. The S.W. School of Character Arts website has posted another interesting making of look at their behind-the-scenes process, featuring many photos & videos of their creature creations. The video covers the werewolf, the lion, Helena Bonham Carter's Swamp Witch,...
