Mortadelo y Filemón or Mortadelo and Filemón as it's called in English is a comic book from the mind of Francisco Ibañez. Known for it's slapstick style humor it has become on of the most popular comic series in Spain. In 2003 a filmed was released based on the popular comic series. The movie was called La gran aventura de Mortadelo y Filemón or The Big Adventure of Mortadelo and Filemón directed by Javier Fesser. The movie starred Benito Pocino and Pepe Viyuela as the title characters. Plot "The adventure when a spy breaks into Professor Bacterio's lab and steals some of his inventions from T.I.A. 'Nemo' breaks BV records in Spain
MADRID -- Disney's Finding Nemo broke all-time opening weekend records for Buena Vista Spain, raking in 4.6 million ($5.5 million) since its opening on Friday, the distributor said Monday. Just over 1 million tickets were sold to see the 383 prints dispersed around Spain. The figure tops Buena Vista's opening of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which grossed 3.8 million ($4.6 million) in its first weekend. But it sits behind zany Spanish comic book turned feature film Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure. The comedy, distributed by Warner Sogefilms, earned 5.1 million ($6.1 million) on 325 copies when it opened earlier this year.

Sogepaq says Cannes 'best market in years'
MADRID -- Spanish distribution house Sogepaq, the rights broker of film and television powerhouse Sogecable, said Wednesday that Cannes 2003 was "its best market in years," thanks to continuing sales on Javier Fesser's boxoffice hit Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure, already Spain's second-highest-grossing film after The Others. Metropolitan Film Export picked up all rights for France and Belgium, media group Mondo TV for Italy, Alpha Filmes for Brazil, and Overseas Movie Distribution for Singapore. These territories add to previous sales in more than a dozen other territories, including to Falcom Media Group for Germany and Austria.

Sogepaq sets 'Mortadelo' sales
MADRID -- Spanish sales agent Sogepaq announced Monday that it has sold Javier Fesser's boxoffice smash Mortadelo and Filemon: The Big Adventure to more than a dozen territories. The Sogecine/Peliculas Pendleton production, which is based on the Francisco Ibanez comic books and has grossed $20 million at the local boxoffice, sold to Art Port in Japan, Apex in Korea, LNK in Portugal, Frenetic in Switzerland, Carmen Film in CIS, Intersonic for Poland, the Czech and Slovak Republics and Hungary, Audiovisual in Greece, IPA in Thailand, Bergvik in Iceland, Chantier in Turkey, Provision in Serbia and Montenegro, Pa-Dora in Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Prime Pictures in the Middle East.
