'1987' is obviously dated by nudity, erotic standards, but still has nice moments given its time & place. '1988' saw the trend continue, but alas took a big step backwards. So imagine my surprise that '1989 Calendar' dials it up the hotness factor in a major way. Maybe they used the best stuff available from these ladies. Maybe I'm partial to the Playmates chosen. Whatever the case this was a treat start to finish.
"Miss January" is India Allen - Dec 1987, PMOTY 1988 - and right away it was a nice omen to see the nudity come quickly. Sure they show her goofing around, playing basketball in candid shots, but then it's naked in bed. Plenty of closeups, quick cuts and an elegant vibe works. Well lit in another bed at the end was great too (4 mins total). "Miss February" is Diana Lee - May 1988 - and as much as it's noteworthy to see a Black Playmate same goes for ladies of the Asian persuasion. She shows off her love, skill for dancing and looks good doing it. Shots of disrobing, completely out of clothes make things even better and I only wish there was more (4 mins total).
"Miss March" is Terri Lynn Doss - Jul 1988 - who breaks out naked fast as both a cowgirl, cop. Plenty of hot shots here ... then things take an odd turn. They have her in a clown bit complete with makeup and it's weird. If you've ever had a fantasy of a woman in clownface then congrats this one's for you. Thankfully it's not a lasting impression as they show Terri naked laying down elsewhere (4 mins total). "Miss April" is Sharry Konopski - Aug 1987 - who has an undeniable girl next door charm. With a bow in her hair, a playful down to earth attitude, it's hard to not find her attractive. Starts off in jean cutoff shorts on a playground before completely naked except for a sheet draped over her shoulders. Yum yum. What a delicious body (4 mins total).
"Miss May" is Lynne Austin - Jul 1986 - and begins by playing up Florida roots including shots of Lynne and her girlfriends in bikinis at the beach. Her & Donna Edmondson then ride jet skis topless before hosing off full nude. In a backyard she slips off her white summer dress. A shot or two of her underwater rocking pink hair (wig?) as well (4 mins total). "Miss June" is Rebecca Ferratti - Jun 1986 - who has a high energy dance in a kitchen before it cuts to her in a montage of different places, clothes. The type of shots you want come in quick and tasty fashion (4 mins total). "Miss July" is Carmen Berg - Jul 1987 - who ends up quickly shown naked in a lawnchair as her in a yellow dress flashing her bush to the camera is intercut leaving me pretty happy. The same thing can't be said of her on a rooftop next that has a large portion of clothed shots (4 mins total).
"Miss August" is Susie Owens - Mar 1988 - who starts off as a nurse to match her real life occupation. It's a different type of piece. Aiming more for story, silliness and less about nudity. I wasn't a fan though you get a hot look at Susie sans clothes once or twice. A simple country style scene with her stripping inside a shack or outside is much better (4 mins total). "Miss September" is Pamela Stein - Nov 1987 - who says she's not a morning person (I sympathize). A slow scene, but once it gets in the zone of her posing there's some likable views (4 mins total). "Miss October" is Kimberly Conrad - Jan 1998, PMOTY 1989 - and it gets right to showing her pictorial. Then it's semi-nude in a chair. The camera, color goes a bit schizo, but when it settles back down you get some decent views of her in bed (3.5 mins total).
"Miss November" is Brandi Brandt - Oct 1987 - who kicks off right away with a heavy motorbike theme. Nudity comes regularly and her look (hair particularly) sells the scene. Then it's a bright number on a set with balloons fully nude from the start. Plenty of closeups make this a winner (4 mins total). "Miss December" is Eloise Broady - Apr 1988 - who talks about acting before a brief scene a la 'Casablanca' throws over to a modern, high energy strip in a hanger from various pieces of clothes. Eloise looks great, but like me you might wish the cuts weren't so quick and the nudity was higher. Her second piece in a bare room is over rather quickly but has some nice shots (4.5 mins total).
I don't know the factors involved ... changing directors, editing, tastes, but the '1989 Calendar' is a breathe of fresh air. Feeling much more modern with a high level of nudity on a consistent basis. To shower more praise it beats out entries from the 90's, 2000's. A great collection of Playmates, I can't express how good the offerings are here.
