WHAT A GREAT CARTOON! I can truly understand why so many people never "got it" with Stickin' Around. They either didn't give the show much of a chance or (more likely) just couldn't allow their inner-kid to connect with the art form.
OF COURSE it looks like it was drawn by 4-year olds. It's a show about how KIDS view their own worlds and those around them, not how adults portray the world of kids. As great as other 'kids cartoons' like the Peanuts were (and still are), none before Stickin' Around ever bothered trying to capture the crazy, disorganized, off the wall, erratic, and most times just down-right silly behavior and zany imaginations that most kids bask in on a daily basis.
Bottom line: KIDS...ARE...SILLY. And this cartoon gets (got) that!
I was 26 years old when I first saw this cartoon and I connected with it instantly! I read someone else's comparison to Fillmore (another great Saturday Morning cartoon - sadly taken off air, I guess because not enough kids' attentions spans were developed enough to follow a plot more in-depth than tripe the likes of Pokemon would allow. tisk, tisk, tisk...) I've always been a bit of an out-of-the box type of person to begin with, which I suppose is why I so instantly gravitated to this cartoon. I think I can safely say Stickin' Around is in my top 3 favorite Saturday Morning cartoons of all time. Yes, even better than Bugs Bunny and Road Runner (the original ones, not the poorly-drawn, poorly voiced and politically correct later iterations where Bugs is this nice little polite bunny who offends no one)
Just my 2-cents
