Initially produced with a theatrical release in mind, the disappointing box office performance of Warner Bros. and Nest's previous co-production, The King and I (1999), convinced the studios to instead relegate the film to a direct-to-video release.
The opening theme from the movie resembles Somewhere In Memory from Home Alone 1990.
Loosely based on a play by Nathanial Hawthrone which centered on a witch that brings a scarecrow to life as he woos a girl called Polly who freaks out when she saw the scarecrow real self in the mirror. In this version it never happened.
When Scarecrow looks at his reflection in the mirror in human form he sees his scarecrow form similar to The Little Mermaid with Ursula's reflection on Vanessa.
This is the seventh and final Warner Bros. Family Entertainment animated film to have musical numbers.
