Prince Igor is not an opera with a tightly constructed plot, however the music from the Overture and the Palotsvian dances to Igor's aria and Vladmir's Cavatina is superb. This is a very good production of the opera, with handsome sets and costumes and efficient staging of the Palotsvian Dances. Bernard Haitink's conducting occasionally plods but is mostly very musical and precise. The orchestra perform superbly as well, while the singing, particularly from Sergei Leiferkus as a dramatic and touching Igor and Anna Tomowa-Sintow who sings with a dark yet rich and beautiful tone and is very commanding on stage, is top-notch. Overall, very good but the singing is what makes it. 9/10 Bethany Cox
