This is the story of a little girl during the beginning of the Second World War. When the German soldiers invade, she and her family are forced to hide in the woods. When her Grand Mother gets sick, her Father goes into town for medicine and disappears. Sarah goes out to pick berries and when she returns, the rest of her family is gone. Sarah is forced to survive alone in the woods with only the animals for company. One day she sees some resistance fighters attempt to destroy a bridge the Nazis use to transport weapons. When their attempt fails, she decides to destroy the bridge herself.
This film is classed as animation but it is not the animation we are used to. The characters are drawn against a real background. The pictures of the war are real as well as the internment camp.
The rating on the box is PG13. Not for violence or gore, merely because it would not be understood by younger people. There are no "Disney" interactive cutesy scenes with the animals. Sarah merely makes friends with them and learns to survive by watching them.
