- In this dystopian FMV-lite point and click adventure game set in 2095, America has become a fascist theocracy ruled by an Inquisition-type cult called The Hand and its tyrannical, androgynous god king, Solene Solux (played by Grace Jones) aka The Imperator. Pornography and most advanced technologies, especially virtual, have been banned, and The Hand has created their own Gestapo-like secret police known as the ARC (or Artificial Reality Containment) to brutally enforce the ban. Those who defy The Hand's rule, dogmas and bans are immediately arrested and literally sent to Hell, the Biblical place that The Hand has revealed to the world to actually exist along with demons and devils, who regularly visit Earth, both in demonic and human form, to dabble in illegal gangster-type activities such as porn paddling. The story begins when, one night, the ARC break into the house of two of their loyal agents, Gideon Eshanti and Rachel Braque, who are both work partners and a couple, to assassinate them. They survive and take refuge in one of the safe houses of the underground resistance movement known as the CFF. At first, they only wish to use the CFF to find out who gave the order to the ARC to assassinate them, but eventually Gideon and Rachel discover many shocking truths about their world, The Hand, and even themselves, which changes everything. At the very beginning of the game, the player can choose to play as either Gideon or Rachel, but this only matters at the very end of the game, and even then only cosmetically. The game uses long and mostly static dialogue-heavy CGI cutscenes to tell the story. The only actual live action full motion video clips (or FMVs) in the game are used to portray just two side characters - Cynna Stone (played by Stephanie Seymour), Gideon's late former lover turned transhumanistic holographic femme fatale explosives expert, and (to a much lesser extent) Jean St. Mouchoir (played by Geoffrey Holder), an archivist and video encyclopedia, whose role is to explain, in great detail, the setting and the mythology of the game's world to the protagonists. Throughout the game, the protagonists will also run into many other unique side characters including Mr. Beautiful (played by Dennis Hopper), an influential demon gangster who offers his assistance for a price.
