The theatrical cut deleted over 20 minutes of much more darker material including the torture scene with Ben Affleck in the hotel room where Gary Sinse and his crew throw darts at him like a human dartboard along with important exposition scenes that kept the original essence of Ehren Kruger's original script which John Frankenheimer loved but was eventually rewritten and tamed down somewhat to what ended up on screen in the 104 Minute theatrical cut. The Director's Cut restores all of this material which Frankenheimer wanted to release theatrically but the Weinsteins and the MPAA thought differently in regards to this material. The Director's Cut is now the preferred release on Blu-Ray after it's original DVD by Disney in 2001.
